Happy Spring! I hope you have been able to enjoy the Club during this beautiful time of year and have plans to do so during Wells Fargo Championship week. The beginning of May means that pool season is almost upon us, and I am sure the Sharks will be ready for another great season. I am also pleased to report the “President’s Drink” at the pool bar will remain unchanged this year due to popular demand – be on the lookout for an email with the recipe and possibly even a how-to video!

Although perhaps not as exciting as great weather and pool season, I want to share several important updates: The Club is on budget through the first four months of the year.

The Club’s acquisition of 2420 Roswell Avenue remains on track, and the property is under contract. The closing may not occur for as long as three years at the seller’s discretion; in the interim, the Club will continue to use the property for parking and use the time to plan for its future use. Related to this acquisition, the Club recently sold the house on Pender Place, and the proceeds are earning interest at an attractive rate.

The Racquet Center renovation is scheduled to start later this month, subject to governmental approvals. The work will take place in two phases, with the first phase being the conversion of the existing back hard courts to dedicated pickle ball courts as well as the construction of related amenities in that area.

Speaking of tennis and pickle ball, the search for our new Director of Racquets is well underway, and we have received tremendous interest.

You will receive an update later this month by email.

As you may have noticed, the fob readers at the Fitness Building recently stopped working due to age. The Club has installed a new access system that will be operated using your smart phone. Additionally, we plan to use the same access system at the renovated tennis center.

Lastly, the robotic mowers at the tennis center are not only cool to see, but they save us fuel and labor costs, plus are better for the environment. By the time you read this letter, we will have added 22 bots to our fleet and expanded their service areas accordingly. Please welcome our new “friends,” and kudos to Don Smith and his team for their forward-thinking!

STAFF HIGHLIGHTS Rachel Bush Level 1 WSET Certified!

We're excited to announce that Rachel Bush, our Food & Beverage Manager, recently passed her Level 1 WSET certification exam on March 16th.

With nearly two years of dedication to our club, Rachel's commitment to excellence shines through. Her pursuit of knowledge enhances our offerings and elevates the experience for our members and guests.

For those unfamiliar, the WSET Level 1 certification provides foundational knowledge in wines and spirits, making Rachel's achievement even more commendable. Congratulations, Rachel, on this remarkable milestone!

Erin Schlegel’s MPCC Internship Program’s Accreditation MPCC is proud to host a Club Management Internship program for hospitality students interested in a career in the private club industry. Beginning in 2018, the internship program introduces students to the inner workings of the Club. Since then, MPCC has hosted 25 seasonal interns and 12 managers-in-training, many of whom are currently in successful club leadership roles.

Our internship program has been recently verified by the Club Management Association of America, the largest professional association for club management professionals. To be verified, the internship program must be paid, encompass a minimum of 300 working hours, provide at least 10 hours of educational programming opportunities, and provide ongoing feedback to program interns. This verified status helps us attract top incoming talent in our field, and “build our bench” as leadership opportunities become available at the Club.

MPCC Interns focus on our food & beverage service department: you will often find them in the Shark Shack; taking your order in the Oakwood Café, Tavern, and Byron Nelson; and working alongside the banquets team to execute both private and club events. To provide a holistic understanding of the club, interns also spend 1-4 days rotating through each department, including accounting, human resources, culinary, events, maintenance, golf, tennis, course maintenance, housekeeping, and membership. They may start the week helping to prepare the golf course for the day’s play and end the week at a wedding menu tasting. Interns also meet regularly with members of our management team, discuss various leadership books, tour local clubs, undergo a resume workshop, and more.

We are grateful for our membership’s support as we share the magic of this industry with bright and talented students and develop the future leaders that will run our clubs 5, 10, and 15 years from now. We hope you will give our 2024 summer interns a warm Myers Park welcome as Erin Schlegel they arrive in May! Youth & Activities Director

Baby Bundles provides a bag full of necessities – baby outfits, blankets and the like – to mothers in need as they leave the hospital with their newborn. The contents of each bag are worth about $305, helping families begin parenthood on the right foot. Since starting in 2010, Baby Bundles has delivered bags to families in and around Charlotte through our community partners.

POOL SAFETY & DEPENDENT POOL ORIENATION Saturday, May 4th | 1:00pm Dependents ages 10 – 16 can visit the MPCC pool without a parent or guardian if they first complete a pool orientation course. The orientation is designed to ensure the dependent is capable of swimming the length of the pool without assistance, and a briefing of pool rules and etiquette.

Each dependent that takes the course will receive a certificate and get their photo taken so they may be easily identified at the pool check-in.

Dependents at the pool without an adult will be responsible for abiding by all pool roles.

POOL RULES GUESTS A member or eligible dependent may not have more than four local guests per day, unless approved in advance.

Dependents under age 21 may not bring the same local guest to the pool more than once each month.

Guest fee is $15 per day.

TOWELS Towels are provided for our members and should remain on property.

Please do not use towels to save seats.

RAFTS For pool safety, lifeguards should always be able to see the bottom of the pool.

Large decorative rafts often obstruct a clear view of the pool, so we ask that any inflatables used are reasonably sized inner tubes with a hollow center

ADULT SWIM Ten minutes of every hour will be set aside for adult swim (18+)

LIFE GUARDS Lifeguards on duty are here to keep everyone safe. While on duty, they should not be engaged in unnecessary conversation or swim instruction.

DEPENDENT SWIM Eligible dependents 10+ years old may visit the pool without a parent after completing a one-time dependent orientation.

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICIES Inclement weather is indicated by the course siren or lifeguard whistle if thunder is heard or lightening seen. If thunder is heard but no lightening is seen, members will be asked to leave the pool but may remain on deck.

If lightening is seen or the course siren goes off, all persons must leave the pool deck immediately- including the space surrounding the pool bar.

The pool deck and pools will reopen 30 minutes after the last sign of inclement weather.
