Dress Code Reminders As the temperatures warm up and we begin to shed our layers from the winter months, we would like to remind you of the Club's dress code policy.

Appropriate attire shall be worn at all times by Club members, eligible dependents and their guests.

Members are responsible for the attire worn by their dependents and guests.

Informal and casual attire may be worn in the Byron Nelson Lounge, Carolinas Room and Presidents Room, provided that such attire is considered in good taste by the general membership. Examples of attire not considered appropriate include but are not limited to are cut-off denim, short shorts, cropped tops, T-shirts with graphics, and muscle shirts. Mock neck shirts are acceptable. Shoes must be worn at all times. Denim is permitted; however, must not have holes, rips, tears, or patches. Management has the authority to deem attire inappropriate.

Bathing attire at the pool must also be considered in good taste by the general membership. The wearing of bathing suits with appropriate cover up or shirts will be permitted in the Byron Nelson Lounge, Carolinas Room, Presidents Room, and pool locker rooms. Cutoff shorts, t-shirts with graphics or muscle shirts are not permitted.

The wearing of hats indoors by men may only occur in the Golf Shop or the Fitness Center. Please remember hat must be worn with brim forward at all times.

19 MPCC PRESENTS: DR. TOM HANCHETT - SORTING OUT THE NEW SOUTH CITY

5:30 - 6:30 pm $15++ per person Dr. Hanchett's book "Sorting Out the New South City" explores the surprising history of how Charlotte became the city of neighborhoods we know today. It's a story that's relevant to many current issues, from school debates to affordable housing.

Tom Hanchett is a popular speaker in our city, best known for 16 years as staff historian at Levine Museum of the New South, from which he retired in 2016. He earned degrees from Cornell, University of Chicago, and UNC Chapel Hill.

Charlotte Magazine calls him "Charlotte's Dr. History" and honored him as a Charlottean of the Year. Find his writings at www.HistorySouth.org.

JUNIOR GIRLS CLINICS WEDNESDAYS FROM 9 AM - 11 AM JUNE 1 JULY 6 AUGUST 3 Junior golf clinics are an opportunity for our girls ages 9-15 to participate in league competition. We will offer 2 hours of instruction which includes supervised practice on the golf course or practice range. The instruction will be specific on how to play and practice the game of golf.

We will also be teaching rules, etiquette, and how to compete based on the girl’s level of play.

Drive, Chip and Putt is a free, nationwide junior golf program for boys and girls ages 7-15 that focuses on the three fundamental skills of the game - DRIVING, CHIPPING and PUTTING

Participants can advance through local, sub-regional, and regional qualifying in each age/gender category to earn a place in the National Finals at Augusta National the Sunday before the Masters and broadcast on the Golf Channel.

Local area qualifiers: Friday, June 17 at First Tee of Greater Charlotte Monday, July 25 at The Peninsula Club Visit www.DriveChipandPutt.com for more qualifiers.

MPCC is offering clinics for junior golfers interested in competing in the local qualifiers. Each clinic is $20 and registration opens on May 3 at 9am (online only).

Crosstown Challenge

MPCC hosted the annual Crosstown Challenge against Charlotte CC. 18 men from each club competed in both tennis and golf.

Overall standings over 18 years is 10-7-1 with Myers Park in the lead. Very proud of our team this year after being down 5-4 after tennis. Next day we took all 9 golf matches and ended up with a 13-5 victory.

PICKLEBALL

Beginner's Pickleball Tips Curious to try pickleball but just not sure where to start? Here are a few tips to consider before you even hit the court.

You’ll have much more fun and you won’t learn as many bad beginner’s habits that you’ll have to break later.

BE CONTROLLED Don’t get too fancy or think too much. Return the ball to your other team’s court and aim for their feet.

FANCY FOOTWORK Pickleball is similar to tennis in that it’s a game that’s about your feet as much as it is anything else. The player who can get to the right place at the right time will make better hits and win more points.

GET READY Just like tennis, stay in the “ready” position at all times, with knees slightly bent and your paddle up. Always watch the ball as it hits your paddle and try to hit it in front of your body. Make sure you commit to your swing. Don’t neglect your follow-through!

PRACTICE YOUR SHOTS There are many types of shots in pickleball but check out some pros on YouTube. Having a visual will help much more than any text description.

CONTROLLING THE KITCHEN You might be wondering why you want to serve and return the ball way to the back of your opponent’s court. There’s a seven-foot zone in front of both teams’ nets where neither player is allowed to volley a ball. This area is called the “no volley zone," or the “kitchen.” Playing right at the kitchen line is very important. It’s where most points are won.

SLAM DINK A great shot in any player’s arsenal is the “dink.” It’s aptly named. It’s a low, slow and somewhat hilarious shot. It’s just a soft little love tap on the ball aimed right at your opponent’s kitchen.

BUT MOST OF ALL...BE PATIENT The goal is to HAVE FUN! Don’t worry too much about what other people think. Enjoy the game and don’t take your mistakes too seriously. Every minute you spend playing, you get better. But most importantly, make sure to play with people who make it fun.

INJURY PREVENTION: A complimentary seminar by Jeff Hartman, Ph.D. in Kinesiology Whether you are a runner, golfer, walker, tennis player or work out in the gym, Jeff Hartman shares his knowledge and the lessons he’s learned to successfully stay healthy and prevent injuries. Jeff has a Ph.D. in Kinesiology from the University of Virginia and is currently a Professor of Exercise Science and the Director of Carolina Chiropractic Plus Human Performance Laboratory at Gardner-Webb University. Jeff also has a degree from the North Carolina School of Advanced Bodywork and sees members on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the massage room in the Fitness Center.

Jeff is an experienced academic and practitioner with a demonstrated history of inspiring and leading others to accept the challenge of finding their better selves through an active lifestyle.

Senior Fitness Mondays at 11:00am This class is designed to maintain your quality of life outside of the gym by increasing flexibility, joint stability, balance, coordination, agility, muscular strength and cardiovascular endurance.

Personal Training for Dependents School's almost out for summer, and before you know it, your kids will be playing in summer travel leagues or starting pre-season workouts for fall sports. To better prepare them and give them an upper hand, consider having them do some conditioning this spring and summer. And by conditioning – we mean focusing on performance, injury prevention and correct movement patterns – not just running and lifting. Every session with a trainer is different, challenging and most of all fun. MPCC trainers make sure that their young clients always look forward to working with them. Pool Safety Class and Dependent Pool Orientation Sunday, May 15 | 12:00 - 1:00pm

Dependents ages 10 - 16 can visit the MPCC pool without a parent or guardian if they first complete a pool orientation course. The orientation is designed to ensure the dependent is capable of swimming the length of the pool without assistance, and a briefing of pool rules and etiquette. Each dependent that takes the course will receive a certificate and get their photo taken so that they may be easily identified at the pool check in. Dependents at the pool without an adult will be responsible for abiding by all pool rules.

POOL

Pool Rules The pool season is always a highlight of the summer; however we ask you review the following pool rules with your family before taking that first dip.

1. Pool Guest Policy a. No guests Memorial Day Weekend, please. b. A member or eligible dependent may not have more than four local guests per day, unless approved in advance by the General Manager, his designee or Pool Supervisor. c. A member/dependent under age 21 may not bring the same local guest to the pool more than once each month. d. If an eligible dependent wishes to bring a guest, and the eligible dependent will not be accompanied by a parent, then the parent must personally inform the pool staff that the eligible dependent has permission to bring the guest. e. Guest fee is $15 per day. Please check in when you arrive and register guests there.

2. All dependents between the ages of 10-16 must take the pool certification course and demonstrate their ability to swim the length of the lap pool to be at the pool unattended.

3. All children under age 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

4. Children using the Kiddie Pool must be accompanied by an adult. Kiddie pool is designed for children under the age of 8 years.

5. All inflatable structures and floats must be in the form of an inner tube, with a hollow center. Lifeguards must be able to see the bottom of the pool, and usage of such inflatables will be at the discretion of the lifeguard on duty.

6. Smoking is not permitted in the pool area.

7. Towels are provided for members and guests for use at the pool and in the locker rooms and should not be removed from Club property.

8. Towels may not be utilized to save chairs, and towels that are used to save unoccupied chairs will be removed.

9. Children who are diaper dependent must wear proper swim diapers.

10. Proper swimwear, cover ups, or clothing is required at the pool at all times.

11. All food and beverage shall be bought from the Club. No breakable containers of any kind are permitted within the pool area, and food may be consumed only in areas designated.

12. Reserving the Club’s pool for a private party or gathering must be prearranged through the Club’s Event Coordinator.

13. Lifeguards on duty are not allowed to engage in unnecessary conversation.

14. Ten minutes of each hour will be set aside for adult swimming and children’s (under the age of eighteen) rest period. This includes the Kiddie Pool. Parents should take advantage of this time to encourage children to use the restroom facilities so as not to pose a potential sanitary problem in the pool.

Swim Team There is still time to register! CLICK HERE Practice begins Monday, May 9 and is held Monday through Thursday. If the water is too cold or the weather does not cooperate, the swimmers will work on dry land drills, stroke instruction, review rules, etc. Heavy and consistent rain will result in practice being cancelled.
