Over 75% of the food we eat is dependent upon honeybees and other pollinators. Marvin Bouknight, a naturalist and beekeeper, will discuss the role of pollinators in our lives, as well as the basics of beekeeping, how to attract honeybees and other pollinators to your yard, the perils facing pollinators today, and how you can create a pollinator friendly, safer haven for these incredible, but extremely important insects.

The Ladies Club Whether you’re eager to meet new people, learn new things, or just have fun, we welcome you to The Ladies Club (TLC) at Myers Park Country Club. Established in 2013 by members Teresa Lee and Claudia Phillips, TLC foster friendships for women of multiple generations and interests. The group meets the second Friday of each month (excluding June, July and August) and event topics range from style to wellness to history. GOLF CLOSURE WEEK Closed week this year will be Monday, July 5th through Monday, July 12th. The golf course will reopen on Tuesday, July 13th. As a result, the Golf Department will operate under the following hours:

The course closure has been extended this year in order to give the agronomy staff time to complete a collar renovation after the regular cultural work is finished. Below are two photos of the chipping area that clearly show the collar that has been sprayed with herbicide. We will be replacing this collar next week ahead of our closed week. The purpose in spraying this collar earlier was so we could properly calibrate our spray equipment, but also give a snapshot of what you will see the week heading into our closed week. All collars were sprayed on June 28th to prepare them for stripping, grading and resodding during our period of closure. We have decided to go back with TifTuf bermudagrass which is the same turf we have used on the tee tops we have replaced this year. It is also on the nursery green collar if you are interested in taking a peek. We feel TifTuf will offer better contrast to the putting surfaces as well as give us better resistance to encroachment of outside grasses. The collar work has to occur on the back end of the cultural work to the putting surfaces, thus the reason for the extended closed days. In addition to the collar renovation, we will also perform a host of cultural work to the golf course. We plan to execute the following activities: ·Verticut greens aggressively a total of 2x in two different directions. ·Aerate greens with 5/8” coring tines at 2.5” spacing followed by cleanup and heavy topdressing in order to fill the holes. ·DryJect greens on Wednesday of that week. This is the process where a dry sand is injected into the rootzone which helps dilution of the organic layer and also aids in creating a firmer surface. ·Aerate greens again with a smaller coring tine at 2.5” spacing followed by cleanup and a lighter topdressing. ·Unirake fairways (this is a form of scarification to open the canopy ahead of fairway topdressing) ·Aerate fairways followed by a drag to break plugs up and then a blower/sweeper to clean up debris left over. ·Topdress all fairways ·Following the work to the greens and fairways we hope to aerate surrounds and topdress several tee tops. This will be dependent on time as it will be done in conjunction with the collar renovation.
golf GOLF UPDATES: TEE TIME SCHEDULING WEEKDAY (TUESDAY – FRIDAY) STARTING TIME PROCEDURES Effective Friday, July 9, 2021:
All weekday (Tuesday - Friday) starting times will be made available on Friday mornings at 7:30 AM.Starting times for weekdays may be booked online beginning at 7:30 AM on the Friday prior to your desired day of play. Example: Tee times for Tuesday, July 13 – Friday, July 20 will open on Friday, July 9 at 7:30 AM. The Golf Shop will not accept requests made in person or by phone until 8:00 AM on each respective Friday morning. Each individual member may only book one starting time per day. Ladies golf groups (LGA & 9-Holers) will be allowed to reserve starting times on their respective play days (during their play day seasons) beginning at 8:00 AM by phone or in person on the Friday preceding the desired day of play. Starting time procedures for Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays will remain the same.
