Welcome to another exciting summer at MPCC! On behalf of our entire team, I am thrilled to extend a warm welcome to both new and returning campers.

We are excited to have you back with us and can’t wait to kick off another unforgettable season filled with games, arts & crafts, swimming, sports, and more. I know that this summer with be packed with opportunities for every camper to create lasting memories and create new friendships.

I’m particularly excited to welcome back Scott Hilliard, returning for his third camp season with MPCC, to lead our program.

With Scott’s enthusiasm and dedication to creating a safe and engaging environment, we know this summer will be one to remember. He is passionate about making sure each camper has the best possible experience, and I can’t wait for you to see what we have in store.

Whether your child is joining us for the first time or returning to continue the fun, we’re committed to making this summer the best one yet. Hello Camp Families,

My name is Scott Hilliard, and I am proud to be returning as the Camp Director at Camp Myers Park for a third year! For all our returning camp families, welcome back and thank you for trusting us with your wonderful children once again. For any first timers, I am thrilled to meet you all and have an amazing time at camp this summer. I cannot wait to get to know you and your camper as we approach the camp season.

Get ready, because this summer is going to be awesome!

I have the best memories of camp as a child, and even more amazing experiences as an adult working in the camp industry. I understand the importance of a meaningful, well-rounded summer camp, and it is not something that I take lightly. It is my goal to provide your child with the best camp experience possible. I am counting down the days to a summer full of enriching activities, differentiated for all ages and uniquely designed for the enjoyment of each camper.

One thing is for sure: we are going to have a blast this summer!

A little bit about me: I have worked in the childcare and education field for many years. I am currently an elementary school teacher here in Charlotte and have been teaching for over eight years, both abroad and locally. As an educator, I enjoy building relationships with children and helping them grow. I love to be silly and goofy with kids, and find myself enjoying the youthful energy that kids provide! Throughout my years of experience, I have had the privilege of working with children of all ages. Additionally, both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees are in education and child development. These experiences are what excite me to serve at Camp Myers Park!

I love working with and learning from kids every day. I am so excited to continue this journey at Myers Park.

WEEKLY THEMES

Camp Myers Park is available June 16 August 15, Monday – Friday, excluding June 30 - July 4. Camp activities include golf, racquets, swimming, games, arts, crafts, and so much more!

Camp is available to children and grandchildren of Myers Park members ages 4 – 10 years. Campers must be 4 years old and diaper-independent by the first day of their session. Due to the popularity of camp and weekly capacity, guests, cousins, etc. are not permitted.

Camp is billed by the week; we are unable to offer partial weeks. If your camper cannot make all 5 days in their session, the full registration fee will still be billed.

REGISTRATION & CANCELLATION Registration is available through the MPCC Website and Mobile App! Please register the same way you would when registering for a Club event. To register your child for a specific week, click on the Monday event of said week and enter your registration information. You will then be sent a link to create your camper profile and complete all necessary camp waivers.

Registration will not be considered confirmed until all paperwork is completed.

The camp cancellation policy is a 50% charge for the week if the cancellation occurs within 1 week of the first day of the camp session (Monday). The full week of camp will be charged if there is a no-show or cancellation on or after the first day of camp. Partial-week refunds will not be permitted.

ALL requests for cancellations or changes must be informed in writing via email to camp@myersparkcc.com.

CAMP DROP-OFF & PICK-UP Myers Park Country Club is located at 2415 Roswell Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28209. Details regarding the drop-off and pick-up locations will be emailed to you a few days before each week of camp begins.

Parents, authorized guardians, and authorized pick up adults listed on registration form must checkin and check-out their children to camp. For their safety, children are not allowed to be dropped off, or check themselves in or out. If you would like to pick up your child before normal camp dismissal, please inform the camp director, so that we can have your child ready to depart on time.

If your child is scheduled to participate in other activities hosted by the Club, but separate from Camp Myers Park (i.e.: Swim Team Practice, Private Lesson, etc.), and it can be arranged for the KE Camps Staff to transport your child to and from those activities, please know that our staff members are not responsible for or able to stay with your child during those times.

LUNCH & SNACKS Lunch will be served daily at 12:30pm, buffet style. Afternoon snacks will be served to full-day campers only at approximately 3:15pm. During camp, we do not permit campers to purchase additional lunch, snacks, or beverages from the Shark Shack.

Please note we are a nut-aware camp and ask that snacks containing nuts are not brought to camp.

The club will only serve nut free foods, however the kitchen is not not-free and cross contamination may occur. Please be sure to note any allergies in both your camper profile and weekly lunch order form.

WHAT TO PACK Camp shirts must be worn each day at camp.

Two shirts are included with your registration.

Campers should dress in comfortable shorts, the official camp shirt and sneakers each day.

Please label all personal belongings brought to camp.

THE FOLLOWING ITEMS SHOULD BE BROUGHT TO CAMP EACH DAY IN A BACKPACK: Hat or Cap Reusable Water Bottle Sunscreen (spray preferred) Swimsuit Floatation Device (for non-swimmers) Change of clothes (in case of accidents) EpiPen or inhaler (if applicable) Medications (if applicable)

WHAT NOT TO PACK Sentimental or expensive items Nut-based products Any shoes with wheels (Heelys) Golf clubs or tennis racquets (will be provided by MPCC) Weapons or dangerous items No Technology Policy: We believe summer camp is a time to unplug and build meaningful relationships with new friends. To truly embrace the essence of summertime, we ask that electronics including cell phones, smart watches, tablets, laptops, video games, etc. are left at home. If you must send your child with a cell phone, we kindly ask that he/she keeps it in his/her backpack throughout the entire camp day to avoid distractions.

Camp Policies LOST LOST&&FOUND FOUND

Please label all personal belongings brought to camp. We will maintain a lost and found bin for misplaced or personal belongings. Lost items may be retrieved at the main clubhouse front desk. MPCC is not responsible for lost or damaged personal belongings.

SUNSCREEN POLICY Please apply sunscreen to your camper before the camp day begins - this helps us get the fun started right away! Our counselors will assist in reapplication prior to pool time at 1:30pm, but will be unable to assist in the morning. Packing spray sunscreens and facial sunscreens/sticks with your camper each day is recommended.

DISCIPLINE POLICY We believe in addressing behavioral issues in a fair and consistent manner. Behavior that detracts from the safe and positive experience of your fellow campers may lead to consequences including dismissal from camp. The following steps outline our approach to discipline: 1. Warning: For minor infractions or first-time offenses, campers will receive a verbal warning and a reminder of camp rules.

2. Time Out: If behavior continues or the situation warrants further attention, campers may be given a time-out or lose certain privileges.

3. Parent/Guardian Notification: If misbehavior persists or becomes more serious, parents or guardians will be contacted to discuss the camper’s behavior and determine an appropriate course of action.

4. Immediate Dismissal: For serious violations of camp rules, the camper may be sent home immediately. This includes but is not limited to physical aggression, severe bullying, deliberate rule breaking that endangers others, or repeated violations after warnings.

Safety and Well-Being are Non-Negotiable: Myers Park Country Club reserves the right to dismiss any camper for inappropriate or unsafe behavior. Any behavior that endangers the safety of the well-being of the camper or others (including violations of safety protocols or intentional harm) will not be tolerated under any circumstances and may result in immediate dismissal. Any camper dismissed from the program will not receive a refund for the remaining camp weeks.

We are dedicated to providing a fun and enriching experience for all campers, and thank you for your help in ensuring a positive and respectful atmosphere for all!

SWIMMING POLICY At Camp Summer Explorers, safety is our number one priority, especially when it comes to water activities. To ensure all campers are safe and can enjoy their time in the pool, we have implemented a swim policy that focuses on skill level and appropriate supervision. During camp, diving board usage will not be permitted.

SWIM GROUP PLACEMENT Every Monday, all campers will take a swim test to assess their swimming abilities. Based on the results of this test, campers will be assigned to one of the following groups and be required to wear the coordinating color wristband:

MINNOWS Anyone who is unable to successfully demonstrate the activities of a Turtle, or whose parent(s) ask that they be classified as a minnow.

Pool time is limited to the kiddie pool (with or without) a floatation device or the shallow end of the competition pool with a flotation device.

Any camper that refuses to take the test will automatically be in this category.

TURTLES Anyone who is able to successfully demonstrate the following in the shallow end without assistance: Jump into chest-deep water from the side Swim 15 yards down and back using any stroke without struggling (doggie paddle does not count towards a stroke) Float on back for 5 seconds Perform 5 bobs: camper goes underwater and jumps right up 5 times in a row Pool time will be limited to the shallow end of the competition pool.

SEALS Anyone who has successfully demonstrated the Turtle swim test and able to successfully demonstrate the following in the deep end without assistance: Jump into deep water from the side Swim backstroke for 25 yards Swim front crawl, breaststroke, or side stroke for 25 yards Tread water for 60 seconds Pool time access to both the shallow and deep ends of the competition pool.

Note: We understand parents often have a strong sense of their child’s swimming ability and may feel confident that their camper is ready for a more advanced group, however camper swim group placement will be based on the swim test, not parent feedback or experiences outside of camp. While parents often supervise their child one-on-one, our counselors and lifeguards oversee larger groups, requiring careful consideration of each camper’s ability for safety. Campers may re-test in future camp weeks to move up, but swim assignments are firm to ensure a safe and fair environment.

MEDICATION POLICY You may leave required medication with our counselors at check in.

The camper’s parent/guardian is required to complete the Medical Dispensing Information, Permission, and Waiver Form in order for our team to administer medication while the child is at camp.

Please note we cannot accept expired medication.

ILLNESS POLICY For the health and safety of all children and adults participating in camp, we request that all children be free from the following signs or symptoms before signing in or returning to camp: Fever, defined as 100.4 F or higher Diarrhea, defined as runny or watery stools 2 or more times Vomiting Undiagnosed body rash Sore throat accompanied by fever or swollen glands Yellowish eyes or skin Eye discharge, such as thick mucus or pus draining from the eye, or pink eye Sever coughing, where a child gets red or blue in the face or makes a high-pitched whooping sound after coughing Signs or symptoms of possible illness such as lethargy, irritability, persistent crying, or any unusual signs.

Positive COVID-19 test Should a camper develop symptoms while in our care, we will contact the parent/guardian to sign them out and will exclude the child from any activities or contact with others. We ask for your cooperation in controlling the spread of communicable diseases.

INJURY POLICY If a minor accident occurs (i.e small bruises, papercuts, splinters, scratches, etc.) our staff will provide First Aid and inform you at pick up. Should a camper become injured or ill during the camp day, we will contact you immediately. If the condition is serious enough to prevent your child from participating in camp activities, you will be promptly notified and asked to pick up your child.

In the rare case of a serious injury or illness requiring emergency care, you will be contacted right away. The Camp Director will call 911, and paramedics will transport your child to an emergency facility with a staff member. Any medical costs incurred will be the responsibility of the parent or designated guardian.

FAQs What is the ratio of campers to counselors during the day?

The ratio of campers to counselors will be 6:1 on most occasions but will be a maximum of 9:1.

Can I send my child for just one day (or two, or three)?

Camp is offered exclusively by the week. Campers may attend only a couple of days if desired, but the full week of camp will be charged to the member account.

My child will be almost 4 years old by the start of the camp week I am interested in. Can he/she be enrolled?

A child must be 4 years old by the start of the week of camp they are signed up for.

Can my child bring a friend or cousin who is not a member or is on the membership waitlist?

Camp is available for member children and grandchildren only. Due to the low availability each week, we are unable to accommodate guests.

Can I vouch for my child’s swimming ability instead of them taking the test?

Camper swim group placement is based on the results of our swim test, not parent feedback or experiences outside of camp. While parents often supervise their child one-on-one, our counselors and lifeguards oversee larger groups, requiring careful consideration of each camper’s ability for safety.

Will golf/racquets sessions be made up if missed due to inclement weather? What happens if it rains all week?

Rain or shine, camp is meant to be fun for all! Our counselors are prepared with many activities for rainy days. Due to the schedules of our sports departments, golf and racquets lessons will not be rescheduled if we are unable to host due to rain.

How can you ensure the safety of my child?

Our staff has been carefully vetted to ensure we are providing the best and safest experience for your child. Our staff is trained in First Aid, CPR, recognizing Child Abuse, and emergency procedures. All activities are supervised by qualified counselors who care about the safety and well-being of all campers, and we maintain very strict safety protocols.

How will I know what to expect for my camper?

This parent manual contains a great outline of what to expect for camp. The week prior to your camp week, you will receive an email with additional details about your camp week, what to expect, any special activities, and more.
