MM Kenya Objectives, Principles and Programmes We are a registered NGO acting as the operational organisation for the Moving Mountains Trust based in the United Kingdom. Our Mission Moving Mountains exists to care for and help rehabilitate children and young people through actively encouraging rural and urban community development. Through formal education and vocational skills development ambitions and dreams are made a reality. Moving Mountains seeks to relieve hardship in areas of difficult circumstances through provision of financial assistance to meet children’s basic needs and their families too. We seek to provide advice and expertise for self help projects, schemes, medical aid and treatment where necessary. By working together with the local communities and partners we do create a safer world where children and young people can take control over their own lives and enjoy their basic human rights with pride. We have no administration costs – the charity is supported financially and in kind by Adventure Alternative Kenya and UK. Development never stops – better to develop a few people well, than a lot of people poorly. We take children through primary & secondary school, college and into employment. We provide continual advice, counselling and a ‘family’ style environment in which to live and grow. Development is inclusive – we involve and support all the other stakeholders in the life of a child, e.g the family unit, school, church, educational institutions and communities. Transparency – we operate a clearly understood system of sponsorship and support, with strict measures and checks on payments, open paper trails and shared honesty. All decisions are voted by members of the executive committee. Involve donors and volunteers – we invite donors to visit the projects and beneficiaries, in order to change their minds about the nature of developmental aid, as well as opening up the benefits of interaction across cultural divides. Trade not aid – we avoid continued dependency on financial aid, and we encourage and teach our partners to become more self-sufficient with incomegenerating projects.
