Director Danny Boyle / Starring Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes / Genre Horror, Thriller

It’s almost thirty years since civilisation collapsed in 28 Days Later, where rage-filled, virus-spreading infected feasted on anyone who couldn’t run away fast enough and redefined the zombie genre. Days became Weeks. Weeks became Years. Now, on a remote island protected by a causeway buried by the tide each night, life is daresay… normal. Still under strict quarantine, everything seems under control until a father and son venture on a mission to the mainland.

The island life that once seemed close to idyllic quickly turns into a nightmare as the horrors of the past rise again alongside new terrors this

world has created. The duo make a chilling discovery: the twenty-eight years since the world turned upside down have been far from kind to both the living and the living dead. Oscar and BAFTA-winning director Danny Boyle returns to the horror series he started with his first film in six years, reuniting with writer Alex Garland, who’s made quite a name for himself as a filmmaker in the years since. They assemble a cast that’s to die for as national treasure Ralph Fiennes, 007-contender Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and the always-sensational Jodie Comer fight to survive this terrifying new chapter that must been seen in the cinema, with everyone watching through their fingers.

THE MISSION OF ALL MISSIONS

After three decades of thrilling, high-speed, trend-setting global excitement, the Ethan Hunt era hits its peak with the biggest and bravest chapter of the entire series.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning

IN CINEMAS 21 MAY

Director Christopher McQuarrie / Starring Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames / Genre Action, Adventure, Thriller

Beginning back in 1996, Tom Cruise’s exploits as Ethan Hunt and the IMF – Impossible Mission Force has become what many consider to be the best action-thriller franchise Hollywood has ever produced. Most, if not all, of its success can be attributed to the energy, passion, and fearlessness its star shows by putting himself on the line to bring audiences the most daring and original stories and set pieces we’ve ever seen.

humanity as we know it. Globetrotting once again with Hayley Atwell, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames et al, their mission is now clear: find the sunken submarine known as Sevastopol, where the source code of The Entity lies, before Esai Morales’ merciless Gabriel or anyone else gets there first. Get set for one hell of a ride as Cruise and co push themselves harder than ever with more jawdropping stunts, this time including Cruise flying ON a plane and doing countless deep ocean dives!

Easily the best stunt Cruise and his team have achieved in the series. Rogue Nation begins with a bang as Ethan Hunt hangs off of a plane as it takes off and the runway disappears behind him.

Thunderbolts*

IN CINEMAS 1 MAY

Director Jake Schreier / Starring Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Olga Kurylenko, Wyatt Russell, Lewis Pullman / Genre Action, Adventure

Marvel is back! After taking a brief hiatus to refine their upcoming slate – despite dropping Deadpool & Wolverine, Agatha All Along, and the bombshell news of Robert Downey Jr’s return as Doctor Doom in that time – the MCU is up and running once more and set to take 2025 and beyond by storm.

Anthony Mackie has already taken flight as Captain America, the new look Fantastic Four are due to enter the fray, and, most exciting of all, is

the long-mooted team-up of misfit antiheroes from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Introducing the Thunderbolts* yes, asterisk and all. Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes, David Harbour’s Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen’s Ghost, Olga Kurylenko’s Taskmaster, and Wyatt Russell’s John Walker are brought together to fight for the U.S. government. With this renewed sense of purpose as part of a daresay “team,” they may have each just found a way of making being bad… good, but only if they can stop shooting and punching each other first.

Pulling the strings, it seems, is Julia Louis Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine but their name suggests that someone bigger – much, much bigger – is really in charge.

Everything, as ever with Marvel, is under strict lock and key, but there’s more than enough to get excited for.

Rachel Weisz

With Yelena and Red Guardian reuniting from Black Widow, perhaps there’s some unfinished family business to sort with their surrogate matriarch, Melina Vostokoff.

Laurence Fishburne

In Ant-Man And The Wasp, Fishburne’s Bill Foster hopes to find a cure for Ava Starr aka Ghost’s molecular problems, perhaps he’s also helped her stay off-grid in all the time since.

With nothing but backpacks, a tent, and a weekly benefit cheque to see them through to dinner time, Raynor and Moth take to the path with nothing to lose.

Their journey over the seemingly endless miles of hilltops, cliff edges, and sandy beaches gives them a renewed vigour for life as they find new purpose within the coastal air.

Tony and two-time Olivier Awardwinning theatre director Marianne Elliot transforms the autobiographical book of the same name into a sensational film that follows Raynor and Moth’s inspirational and emotional journey. Experiment 626 may have just found his perfect hiding place from the clutches of the United Galactic Federation and the mad scientist who created him. With the determined and feisty Hawaiian girl Lilo by his side, he might have just found a family, too.

Stitch may have a shiny new look in Disney’s latest live-action reimagining,

FLAME ON!

It’s been a very long time coming, but finally, Marvel’s First Family is back home on the big screen as a new-look team of heroes ignites an exciting new era for the MCU. WORDS SCOTT J. DAVIS

The Fantastic Four: First Steps

IN CINEMAS 25 JULY

Director Matt Shakman / Starring

Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bacharach / Genre Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

While we’ve seen one of the Marvel’s biggest series of comics on the big screen before, there’s something very special about this Fantastic Four joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time – and fans across the globe are feverish. Could this be a new dawn for the MCU?

It’s not just excitement for the superheroes, but also for four of the hottest names in Hollywood who are joining the MCU, too. Step forward: Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/ Mr Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human

Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bacharach as Ben Grimm/The Thing. Together, they’re kick-starting the fascinating Phase 6 in style.

Avengers

Appearances in Doomsday and Secret Wars are pretty much a given with all the multiversal shenanigans about to go down. The Russos return to direct their showdown with Robert Downey Jr’s Dr Doom.

Where Do The Fab Four Fit? X-Men

The final piece of the MCU jigsaw, its famous mutants. With the foursome’s powers

Elasticity, invisibility, fire-flight, and super-strength – they already have their powers this time around, but their mission is clear: save the world. Though it’s not clear which Earth they’re on quite yet, it is under threat from intergalactic supervillain Galactus and his minion, The Silver Surfer.

With Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars on the horizon, this marks the First Steps into an exciting new era and one where any number of cameos could appear, but just having the Fab Four part of it all is geek-fandom Nirvana.

Hold onto your multiverses… It’s Clobberin’ Time!

Spider-Man

With the Fab Four having a close affinity to New York City, could they help Peter Parker on his rumoured return for a fourth chapter?

Doctor Strange

If they’re from a different Earth to the main MCU one, perhaps they’ll be helping Doctor Strange across the multiverse, fixing universal incursions and tying the timelines back together.
