SUMMER 2014

Welcome

to Mountview’s summer season.

Mountview is one of the UK’s leading drama schools, with a long-standing and international reputation for providing the highest quality training to actors, musical theatre performers, directors and theatre production artists. Each year we stage over 25 productions a year in venues across London. Running alongside our full-time programme, regular weekend and summer schools offer the chance for young people to unleash their creativity. Every Saturday 240 young people from Haringey and our neighbouring boroughs attend weekend classes, half of whom receive free or reduced-price places.

In the summer week-long courses for amateur actors and a directors’ weekend offer adults the chance to experience training in a professional drama academy. These final productions from our graduating third years are all modern reworking of classic tales – tales that audiences have been responding to decades, centuries even. Included in this season our musical theatre students perfom a play, Anna Karenina, and our actors present a musical, Howard Goodall's A Winter's Tale. It is great to be working with Howard, one of Mountview's Artistic Associates and Honorary Doctorates once again.

I look forward to welcoming you. Stephen Jameson Principal and Artistic Director

Art and love fall apart for a famous writer, a fading actress and a love-sick playwright. In 1981 Tennessee Williams was commissioned to write a play by the Vancouver Playhouse. He chose to create a version of Chekhov’s The Seagull which opened just 14 months before his death.

As an educational performing arts charity,

only 30% of our income is supported by public funding (for a limited number of student bursaries).
