New theatre and contemporary classics from our final year students.

I am very pleased to present Mountview’s 2014 spring season – my first as Artistic Director and Principal.

Mountview is committed to providing the best training for a diverse, creative and successful career.

Key to this is experience of classic and contemporary work as well as developing new writing.

This season our actors present three works in progress by highly respected theatre makers. Terry Johnson and Stephen Jeffreys have given Mountview two plays previously

Stephen Jameson

unperformed in the UK, Dreaming America and The Art of War, whilst Analogue have collaborated with the company to create a brand new piece of theatre. All three can be seen at Shoreditch Town Hall.

Musical theatre students present two American musicals at Bernie Grant Arts Centre. Tony-award winning City of Angels tells a classic Hollywood fable of a failing writer and beautiful starlet. We then switch from film noir to something altogether darker in Spring Awakening as teen angst tips over the edge.

An international hit since its 2006 debut, Spring Awakening is a bold, brave and exhilarating exploration of adolescent self-discovery. Repressed by their strict upbringings, a group of sheltered teenagers in 19th century Germany begin to unearth the rights and wrongs of morality and sexuality. Rock music and raw passion fuse in this controversial and fully-charged comingof-age musical.

In 1940’s Hollywood a frustrated writer is penning his film noir masterpiece in which his characters search for a missing girl against a backdrop of murder and intrigue. As scenes are rewritten and the writer’s personal life collapses, real world and ‘reel’ world intertwine in this multi-award winning comic jazz dazzler of a musical.

Imagine you had insomnia. Imagine that it was so severe that within a few months you would be dead. Imagine that it was genetic and you would pass it on to your child. Analogue has worked with Mountview to create this new piece of theatre at Shoreditch Town Hall, following the true story of one family through their sleeplessness from 16th century Venice to the present day.

Sleepless is part of a wider Analogue project which has been commissioned by Shoreditch Town Hall and will be co-produced with Mainz Staatsthater in 2015

What takes a man to the skies, and what brings him back down again? Movie mogul, aviator, recluse and richest-man-in-theworld Howard Hughes reflects on his life in this new play, a work in progress by award-winning playwright Terry Johnson (Hitchcock Blonde, Dead Funny, Hysteria).

Short Courses Mountview’s evening, weekend and holiday courses offer adults and young people alike the opportunity to experience professional training in one of the UK’s leading drama schools.

Young People’s Classes

Foundation in Acting | Musical Theatre

If you are 24 or under and have a passion to perform, Mountview offers the opportunity to work with professional directors, actors and choreographers alongside other young people in creative workshops and performances.

Saturday, evening and summer classes cover acting, street dance and musical theatre.

One-year courses designed to equip students with a solid base of skills, discipline and experience. Taught by Mountview’s core creative staff the part-time acting and full-time musical theatre foundations provide rigorous training and a stepping stone to further study.

Introduction to Drama School

Summer Experience for Amateur Actors and Directors

Two-week summer courses in acting and musical theatre for young people aged 17+ who are planning on applying to drama school. Skills classes, rehearsals and a final performance are combined with useful audition tips and practice.

Intensive six-day courses for amateur actors and musical theatre performers aged 21+ provide a concentrated experience of professional coaching, whilst a weekend of workshops for directors introduce new theatre skills and techniques.
