OUR NEW HOME Changing the shape of drama training

WELCOME TO MOUNTVIEW “As President of Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, I am absolutely delighted to support Mountview’s move to a new home. This is the perfect site for Mountview to house its world-class training, broaden its reach throughout the UK and the local community and expand its collaborations with professional artists. This new development will provide everything that the school needs to provide a vital resource for the UK’s creative industries. I am very excited to see it all come together and I whole-heartedly encourage everyone to join me in supporting Mountview in this endeavour.” DAME JUDI DENCH President

OUR IMPACT Mountview is one of the UK's top drama schools, committed to finding and training the most talented students regardless of background or income. We provide world-class training for careers in theatre, film, TV and radio We are the leading Musical Theatre trainer in the UK We have the highest percentage of Black, Asian, and minority ethnic acting students of any accredited UK drama school 50% of undergraduates receive scholarships to cover fees and living costs We receive 1,200 applications for just 36 places on our BA Musical Theatre each year 95% of our graduates work professionally within a year Each year we receive applications from 33 countries across the world 85% of our students come from state schools, the second highest of our peer group 1,500 people participate in our community work every year Rated ‘Outstanding’, Ofsted, 2015 1

Current student home towns. 83% are from outside London Our scouting programme is the widest-reaching of any other UK drama school, with 38 regional partners UK schools partners Regional audition locations

WHY WE NEED TO MOVE Mountview is currrently based in Wood Green, north London. Our premises no longer fit with Mountview's ambition, vision and track record of success. The main issues are: INADEQUATE FACILITIES

We do not have our own theatre

Rent costs are constantly rising, and will reach over ÂŁ1m in 2017/18

The school is split over five separate buildings on an industrial estate, making little allowance for interaction between students across the various teaching disciplines Our studio spaces are not fit for purpose We have no room to expand our outreach programme or work with the community

Our current site offers no commercial opportunities and no potential to diversify our income We have no security of tenure. The site has four different landlords and we operate under short term leases

There are no opportunities to share our work with the public on our current site 2

A UNIQUE DRAMA SCHOOL We have secured a high street site in the heart of Peckham on which to build a permanent home for Mountview. Mountview will be the only drama school in the UK to combine world-class training and a fully integrated community programme with facilities for professional artists to develop their craft. •

World-class facilities will reflect the high standard of our training and reputation, enabling students to excel

Two new theatres will be open to the public year-round, housing over 20 Mountview productions annually plus visiting community and professional work. Discounted and free tickets will be available

Our outreach programme will expand to include weekend and evening classes, volunteering and adult community programmes and high quality, affordable fitness and wellbeing classes

Lettable spaces – including a studio theatre and rehearsal and practice rooms – will bring artists into the building, enabling professionals and amateurs to develop their practice side by side

Public café, bar and retail facilities will provide a great resource for local people and much-needed commercial income for the school

Mountview will bring an estimated £14.3m* of economic benefit per year to the local area as well as new jobs, volunteering opportunities and four apprenticeships in wardrobe, stage carpentry and marketing

THE PROJECT Planning permission was granted for Mountview's new building in September 2016 on a brownfield site adjacent to Peckham's Stirling Prize-winning library. We broke ground in spring 2017 and the building will open in late 2018. Mountview has a finance facility in place to cover 80% of the funds needed.

We have raised ÂŁ5m from trusts and foundations, individuals and companies and we are now seeking funds for the remaining ÂŁ1.5m to fit out the theatre space.
