Jada Veasey ’22

From Fort Madison, Iowa, Nicholas J. Peitz ’08, ’22 MSL graduated with a Master of Strategic Leadership with an emphasis in Criminal Justice.

Jada Veasey ’22 is from Rock Island, Illinois, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Throughout her time on campus, Jada has served as a tutor in the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE), resident assistant, copy editor for the PAHA Review, editor-in-chief of the Mount Mercy Times, president of the Law & Politics Club, executive board member of MMUANS, and secretary of the Iowa Association of Nursing Students. She also played the flute in the University Band.

Currently the Associate Warden of Treatment for the Iowa Department of Corrections (IDOC) at the Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility, Nicholas saw each class as an opportunity. He was proud to speak about the IDOC and let his peers know about the good people and good work being done within the prison system to help make Iowa safer—all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA.

Jada is most proud of being named the Iowa College Media Association’s Pat Pisarik Journalist of the Year—a prestigious honor given to just one student journalist in Iowa.

After graduation, Nicholas plans to continue with the IDOC to help incarcerated people create new and better futures for themselves, their families, and their communities.

After graduation, Jada will move to Iowa City and work as a nurse in the NICU at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
