SWINGING FOR CHARITY It was a fun-filled day of friendly, competitive camaraderie on 8 December 2017, when more than 120 club industry representatives gathered for the Mounties Group Annual Charity Golf Day at Liverpool Golf Club, raising over $50,000 for the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children (RIDBC). “Each year we select a different charity to support, with the main goal of the golf day being to make a difference in the lives of children in our local community,� said Mounties Group Chief Executive, Greg Pickering. RIDBC provides education, therapy and cochlear implant services for children and adults with vision or hearing loss, their families, and the professionals who support them.

The huge donation will enable RIBDC to run a preschool program for vision impaired children in the Liverpool area. The day was a great success out on the greens, culminating in a memorable afternoon function including a buffet lunch, entertainment, golf presentations and numerous fundraising activities. Guest speakers included legendary former Australian cricketer Greg Matthews who was joined on-stage by former Aussie bowler, Doug Bollinger. RIDBC chief executive Chris Rehn said they greatly appreciate being chosen as the charity benefiting from the 2017 Mounties Group Charity Golf Day. Mounties Group would like to say thank you to all our sponsors including SG Gaming, Aristocrat and Liverpool Golf Club for their support in making this event a success.
NEW YEAR, NEW COACH Mounties Wanderers Football Club (FC) in conjunction with Integrated Football Management are delighted to officially announce Scottish UEFA coach Kevin Harper as the Senior Technical Director of Mounties Wanderers FC. Landing down under on Monday 2 January, Kevin has signed a two-year deal with the NSW NPL 2 team. At the age of 19 he made his professional debut for Hibernian and throughout his career he played for Portsmouth, Norwich City, Leicester City, Stoke City, Derby County, Walsall, Carlisle United and Dunfermline Athletic. The 41-year-old’s honours include English Championship winner back-to-back seasons in 200203 and 2003-04 and English League Two winner in the 2006-07 season.
“I am looking forward to joining the club and working with the football managers at Mounties Group to fulfill aspirations of both the Board and the players, to bring success whilst also developing a structured pathway for the players in the several teams to progress through to the 1st Grade Squad,” Kevin said. Kevin will pull out his boots to pass on pointers to the next generation heading both 1st grade and under 18’s squads. His impressive football career and multiple qualifications make Kevin the ideal front-runner to head the Wanderers to victory this season.

THE ‘UNSUNG’ HERO COMMUNITY UPDATE
There are so many ‘unsung heroes’ that invest their time and efforts contributing to the improvement of the quality of life of the communities within the Fowler Electorate.
Amongst his notable achievements, John has been recognized for many awards including the Justice of the Peace (1971), Commonwealth Recognition Award for Senior Australians (2000), Australian Centenary Award (2001) and the Order of Liverpool MLO (2008). He has been awarded 4 life memberships to the Liverpool Postal Institute Golf Club (1976), Communication Workers Union (1980), Returned Services League of Australia (2008) and, of course, Mounties (2011).
As Mounties Welfare Officer since 2001, John has been working tirelessly behind the scenes supporting members of the community through the death of loved ones, with funeral arrangements and assisting many war veterans and their widows in receiving pension entitlements.
“We all know someone who goes above and beyond to make a positive difference in our community and they deserve to be recognised” Chris Hayes said.
Our very own Mounties Welfare Officer, John Baron, was awarded the Chris Hayes MP Community Service Award for 2017. The award recognizes the exceptional every day individuals who work tirelessly and selflessly to make a positive impact within the community.
Congratulations and many thanks to John Baron for all his achievements and humanitarian works and to all who contribute to make a difference in our community.

Light. Easy. Tasty. Who doesn’t like those three words? This recipe has been around for a long time, but that doesn’t mean you can’t play with it and make it your own. Here’s our take on the classic 5 Bean Salad.
Jonathan Flanagan Head Chef, Fresh at Mounties Equipment
• Sieve • Chopping board • Knife • Mixing bowl
Ingredients
• 3 x cans 5 Bean Mix • 1 x red capsicum • 200g frozen corn • 1 x small jar sundried tomatoes • 1 x red onion • 6 x kale leaves • 1 x bunch parsley • 100g almonds (sliced or whole) • 1 x lemon
Method
1. O pen the cans of beans and using the sieve, lightly rinse them. Allow them to drain and place in mixing bowl. 2. Add the frozen corn. 3. R oughly dice the capsicum and onion. Add to the mixing bowl. 4. F inely slice the kale and parsley and add to the mixing bowl. 5. S lice the sundried tomatoes and add to the mixing bowl. Retain the oil, this will be used to dress the dish later. 6. I f you’re using sliced almonds, place them straight into the mixing bowl. If you’re using whole almonds, crush them up first. 7. D ress the salad with the oil from the jar of sundried tomatoes until you are satisfied with the amount. Everyone’s different in how they like it, so this is totally up to you! Squeeze lemon juice, add salt and pepper and mix well. Play with the recipe as much as you want, and add what you feel like. It’s a crowd pleaser that I’m sure you will like making, and love eating!

How many years have you been working for Mounties? I started on June 2008 - so just over 9 years. What are your thoughts of the evolution of the club during your time here? The beginnings of the implementation of the Master Plan for the Club has already seen a dramatic change to the Club’s appearance and together with the expanded food offerings, the opening of the new Sports Bar and much more to come. I’m sure our patrons will be excited when they visit Mounties in the years to come. How do you manage to stay awake throughout the late hours at night? Funnily enough, there is always someone entering or leaving the Club throughout the late shifts and this, together with plenty of behind the scenes housework to complete tends to keep me on my toes all night. What is the craziest piece of clothing you have seen someone wear? There’s been some beauties over the years but the guy with the large fake open wound on his arm takes the cake. Yes, he was politely asked to remove it - it was pretty gross!

You were lucky enough to compete on Channel Nine’s ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’. Describe the experience and the question that ruined your chances of becoming a millionaire. 12 months and 3 auditions before getting accepted on the show. 7am start at the studio, all morning rehearsals, then 6 shows taped in the afternoon before being whisked back to the airport for a 7pm flight home. Great experience, Eddy McGuire was a charming and at times very funny host. The question “According to Lord Tennyson’s poem, who was the noblest knight of the Round Table?”. That I got it wrong still haunts me to this day. Still $1,000 is better than nothing. What is the greatest part of your job? Working with a great team in Member Services, having a chat with our regular patrons as well as greeting and promoting our Club to our many visitors. The question on everyone’s minds, do your feet get sore standing for hours? Yes. Well fitting, comfortable shoes are the key as well as taking good care of your feet.

The new NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) has been making headlines lately and you are probably wondering what all the fuss is about. The NDIS is a government initiative providing support for Australians with disability, their families and carers. What you need to know about the program: • If you are a person with a disability who wishes to participate in the NDIS, you first need to register through the NDIS website. • Not everyone is entitled to a plan through this scheme. • Each plan is individually tailored, meaning you may be entitled to only some services; e.g occupational therapy, home supports. • Support offered may include education, employment, social participation, independence, living arrangements and health and wellbeing. These support mechanisms exist to help participants: • pursue their goals, objectives and aspirations • increase their independence • increase social and economic participation • develop their capacity to actively take part in the community. At Ignite, our mission is to “Improve the Quality of Life” and we aim to ensure people with disabilities receive the support they need to do just that.
