As part of the Fresh Café refurbishment, there will also be a children’s playground soon to be unveiled, located near the IGNITE swimming pool.

This will create a precinct for families that’s easily accessible from the lower ground floor carpark.

Your favourite Vietnamese restaurant will undergo a refurbishment over the next couple of months.

Patrons may experience minimal disruption to usual trade. Look to page 21 of this What’s On Guide for some mouth-watering specials for just $8.

The Terrace Bar & Café is now open for you to enjoy your morning coffee, lunch or dinner and drinks with friends. Free live entertainment is available on Friday and Saturday nights. We invite you to come and experience this new space for yourself.

A brand new Cantonese restaurant is currently under construction and we look forward to unveiling this to you in full detail in the next What’s On Guide.

You’ll be able to taste the delights of this amazing addition to your Mounties’ dining experience by December.

The Outdoor Deck The Outdoor Deck will undergo a full redevelopment. This will create a space for families as well as a fantastic outdoor area for a beer while enjoying live entertainment and sport on the big screen. We look forward to members enjoying this space this summer.

OUR COMMUNITY MOUNTIES GROUP DONATES OVER $600,000 TO COMMUNITY PROJECTS Mounties Group gave more than $600,000 to 40 local organisations in need, through ClubGRANTS in an official presentation on 4 August. All over Western Sydney, there are many community groups which require funding and support. The money donated will go towards numerous projects that benefit different sectors of society including: education programs; health care services; aged, disability or youth services, and family support initiatives.

The Ted Noffs Foundation is among the charities that Mounties Group supports. Mounties has a long standing relationship with the charity, having provided continuous support since 1999, including a major partnership in establishing The Street University; the ground-breaking youth development project that has helped disadvantaged youth in the Liverpool region.

In this year’s ClubGRANTS, the Ted Noffs Foundation has been awarded $25,000 for the ‘Welcome Home’ project which will create a space for young people to foster a sense of community and celebrate their first culture through participation

in various cultural forms, such as visual arts, music, dance and theatre.

Another organisation that Mounties Group is supporting this year is the Fairfield Community Resource Centre. “Our latest research shows 12% of the homeless population in NSW are in Western Sydney. This has a large impact on the community and on any given day, more than 1,300 people are homeless,” said Jason Cummings, Fairfield Community Resource Centre CEO. “The funding us will assist in our ‘Halfway Home Homelessness Services initiative’, where homeless people can seek shelter, washing facilities and IT access,” Jason added.

Mounties Group has been participating in the ClubGRANTS funding scheme for 17 consecutive years, and will continue to give back to the community in the years to come. Kevin Ingram, Mounties Group President, said: “This annual event is significant for Mounties Group as we are always looking to support organisations that benefit locals. The ClubGRANTS funding forms part of the $6 million we have given back to the community, in the last financial year.”

MOUNTIES FLYING TO THE RESCUE!

NEWS

For the past five years, Mounties Group Board of Directors have generously sponsored CareFlight with a consistent level of funding that has been instrumental to its success. As a result of the $300,000 per year sponsorship provided by our group of clubs, CareFlight has been able to provide the highest standard of rapid response critical care to the ill and injured, especially in the South-West Sydney region, from its base in Westmead.

On 23 August, Mounties Group’s Board of Directors were invited to visit CareFlight facilities. The occasion was the unveiling of the new Mounties Group logo, proudly displayed on the tail of the

helicopter, the update of which symbols the strength of the Mounties Group and CareFlight partnership for more years to come. The Directors were given the opportunity to tour the helicopter and liaise with pilots and doctors who play an influential role in the functioning of the charity organisation.

Community support has helped CareFlight rescue more than 50,000 people over the past three decades and it is for this reason Mounties Group looks forward to continue working with CareFlight to invest in programs and activities to fulfil its vision of creating better medical retrieval service in Australia.

On September 6, CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was tasked to Buxton, south-west of Sydney, when a 42-year-old man was airlifted to Liverpool hospital after taking a fall from a pergola while cutting away vegetation. The patient’s direct flight to appropriate treatment via Careflight has allowed for a speedy recovery and without the help of the organisation it could have been a different story.

The whole experience of being a contestant on The Voice is one he will never forget. When speaking about his fondest memory, Alfie says that it is definitely his blind audition. "I had never experienced such an amazing adrenalin rush in my life! To have the four coaches turn around for me at the blind audition was incredible!”

Life before The Voice was very different for Alfie, being an architect with his most recent accomplishment of designing his grandparents' house. The 27-year-old had only been singing for three years, and had been inspired by Daniel Merriweather and Sam Smith, which he performed during the show.

The style is a popular spring and summer trend but which one to go for and what is the difference between Ombré, Sombré, Foils, or Balayage? Get to know a little bit of stylist lingo so next time you come into the salon you can communicate exactly the hair look you want!

Foil highlights are a more traditional approach, best used to disguise those stubborn greys.

Foils are uniformed and applied to the tip top of the root.

Ombré is when you have a dramatic contrast from dark to light, little to no gradual gradient.

Sombré is a more natural ombré, sunkissed beachy colour. This technique has the lighter sections start up a bit higher and the lower lengths have ribbons of dark colour for a more gradual transition.

Balayage is a freehand technique where the colour is applied by hand rather than using the traditional foiling or cap highlighting techniques. Can be dramatic or subtle.
