Mounties Adds Colour to Children's Hospital Experiences Mounties Group has raised over $43,000 that will enable Liverpool Hospital to design and publish a book to help explain the hospital process for sick and injured children being admitted to hospital and make their experience less intimidating.

The funds are a result of the Mounties Group annual golf day where over 120 industry representatives and staff came together at Liverpool Golf Club to enjoy a day on the green and make a difference to the lives of children.
Mounties Group CEO, Mr Greg Pickering, said days like the club’s golf day were a way that Mounties’ corporate partners and commercial suppliers could get behind the Group’s bid to positively impact the Fairfield and Liverpool region.

In the world of PCYC (Police Citizens Youth Clubs NSW), ‘Jail time’ involves being detained in a portable cell, under the supervision of a police officer. In exchange for release, the ‘prisoner’ must raise bail through donations. This program titled ‘Time4Kids’ is a fun opportunity for corporate organisations and members of the community to get involved and work jointly with Police in supporting their local PCYC to make a difference. On 25 May, reports stated that Nick Lalich, State MP of Cabramatta and Guy Zangari, State MP of Fairfield had been arrested. What was Cabramatta and Fairfield to do without its main men! Luckily, Mounties Group came to the rescue donating $500 to each Member. Mounties Group President, Kevin Ingram said, “It’s great to see our community leaders getting behind
a worthy cause and giving up their time to fundraise. The annual event is not only fun for participants, but an initiative that helps keep our community safe.” PCYC is one of the largest youth organisations in Australia empowering young people through Police and community partnerships. All proceeds raised will go towards the youth development and police programs, allowing youth case managers to coach and mentor young offenders and those ‘at risk,’ to get active in life, encouraging them to develop respect, commitment, resilience and integrity. The partnership between PCYC NSW and the NSW Police is something Mounties is proud to be a part of, and will continue to cultivate for many years to come.

a son’s first hero & a daughter’s first love
Multiple research studies suggest that father involvement is positively linked with children’s overall life satisfaction and wellbeing. Feeling involved is also good for dads because they have a greater sense of self, greater general wellbeing, marital stability and relationship happiness. This is because being involved increases a sense of connectedness and inclusion. Mounties Group held two soccer training sessions in June to encourage father and child bonding. Sixty children and their dads attended the fun-packed sessions which were held, with the help of coaching staff and players from the Mounties Wanderers Football Club. With the support of Hoxton Park’s Good Shepherd Catholic Primary School and the Family and Faith Program, an initiative of the Sydney Catholic Schools Office in Sydney, the event was a success in delivering important educational messaging about bonding and interaction. In attendance on both nights were Jackie Hana, the Family Educator of Family and Faith and Brendan O’Connor, the Principal of Good Shepherd Catholic Primary School. Glen Ingle, Sports Administrator at Mounties Group said: “Jackie Hana and Brendan O’Connor were both really impressed with the commitment and compassion of the fathers who were participating with their children. It was an eventful two nights for our dads and kids in the community.” It was a successful night enjoyed by all, especially the children. “It was the best, I didn’t want to go home. My favourite drill was when I had to get the ball off my dad and I beat him” Brendan Natale said. September 3 will be a very special day for dads and their children with many planning special celebrations to honour their dads. But since Father’s Day is only one day in the calendar year, we’re encouraging everyone to nurture this relationship every day.

Winter Beef Stew I grew up in a place called Manchester, England. It’s the place where skies are grey & 10°C is classed as a hot summer's day. I remember ice skating in my street once. The only pick up for us was to come in, turn the fire on and cook some hearty winter classics. I’ve got an all-time favourite for you to try before the warmer weather hits, It’s something I would eat at least once a week. Jonathan Flanagan

INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • • • • • • •
recipe OF THE MONTH
2 sticks of celery, thickly sliced 1 spanish onion, chopped 2 large carrots, chopped 6 chat potatoes, cubed 3 sprigs thyme 1 tablespoon vegetable/canola oil 1 tablespoon butter 2 tablespoon plain flour 2 tablespoom tomato puree 2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 2 beef stock cubes 250ml red wine 850g stewing beef. Brisket or chuck. Cut into large chunks
INSTRUCTIONS
1. In a large pot, add 1 tablespoon oil and brown the meat. The more colour on the meat will bring out more flavour. Once the meat is a dark brown, take out of the pan and rest. Add your 250ml of red wine to the pot to deglaze and scrape down all that flavour. 2. Add butter to the pot. Add celery, onion, carrots, potatoes & thyme sprigs in. Soften for 10 mins, then stir in the flour until it doesn’t look dusty anymore, followed by the tomato purée, Worcestershire sauce and beef stock cubes. 3. Gradually stir in 600ml of hot water, then tip in the beef and bring to a gentle simmer. Cover for 2 hrs 30 mins, then uncover and cook for 30 mins – 1 hr more until the meat is really tender and the sauce is thickened.

Powers, who was 12 when he first hypnotised his young brother, maintains that anybody can be hypnotised, given enough time and their cooperation and concentration, but different people need different techniques. “Everybody’s response can be very different,” he said. “It is quite amazing how people interpret things.” One trick Powers likes to play is to hypnotise people into thinking they are wearing different clothes, then ask them how they are dressed. Some people will shout out “as Elvis”, others “the Easter Bunny”. “I think it’s very interesting to give a suggestion and they fill in the gaps,” Powers said. How long have you been working in functions at Mounties? I have been working in functions for about 13 years. What functions do you love working on the most and why? I love to work in all functions as I find them enjoyable and different all the time. I also enjoy interacting one-on-one with my customers. What is the most rewarding thing about your role? The most rewarding part of my role is when the customer provides positive feedback about my service and is satisfied with the smooth running of their function.
What do you classify as a successful event? A successful event is when the function has been managed and operates smoothly, e.g. food is served on time. Tell me why I should have my birthday party at Mounties? We provide excellence service and do our best to accommodate our customer’s requests to make their day as special as possible. Outside of work what is your favourite thing to do? I love cooking different dishes and spending time with my family and friends. I also love to go away on holidays down to the south coast and on cruises to visit different countries.

Everyone loves heading out on the weekend to their local café for a coffee and why not, the wonderful smell of roasted coffee beans lurers you in. How often do you walk out not just with a coffee but a croissant, banana bread or delicious pastry? This may be not be so good on the waistline. Let’s have a look at some tips to help you navigate your way around the extra calories. • Swap croissants for sourdough or wholemeal fruit toast. • Try a muesli slice (careful, those sticky ones are full of sugar).
• Fruit muffins would be a better choice than chocolate ones, savoury options are even better.
• Go for a protein ball, they are great if you have a sweet tooth and the protein will help you feel fuller for longer.
• The average chocolate mud cake packs 1300kj and 17g of fat, while a cupcake averages 600kj and 7g of fat – if you are looking to keep the calories down the cupcake is the preferred option. • A caramel slice has approximately 1680kj and 24g of fat, while a friand has 720kj and 8g fat.
• Watch out for banana bread – basically it’s a cake with a whopping 22g fat per slice! • Try sourdough with vegemite or smashed avocado.
If your morning out is all about spending quality time with friends and cake is a tradition, then calorie intake should not stop you. We recommend you share your cake with friends and go light at your next meal.

TRIGLAV RAISES A TEA-RIFIC $2,287 AT BIGGEST MORNING TEA Last year’s event was sweet and it’s for this reason many came back to join us for seconds as Triglav hosted its Alice Tant Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser for the second year running on Thursday, 25 May in memory of Alice Tant, a Triglav Sub-Committee member who passed away from cancer. The morning kicked off with Alice’s favourite game of bingo alongside morning tea offering a variety of scrumptious cakes, coffee, hot chocolate and of course tea. Mounties Group President, Kevin Ingram said, “The Alice Tant Biggest Morning Tea is a great chance for members and guests to come together and show their support for an important cause. We know that every dollar we raise this year at the morning tea will make a real difference, and this event is a wonderful way of celebrating the memory of one of our muchloved committee members.” With one in two people diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85, the Cancer Council aims to create

hope and save lives. Every dollar raised from the fundraising efforts of Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea will go to the Cancer Council towards funding vital cancer research, prevention and support service programs. Cups were raised, people were praised, cakes were devoured and stories were shared as the day was enjoyed by all who attended including Alice’s family and friends. “I would like to thank Triglav for making my mother a part of this meaningful day, mum would have been thrilled by it all and ever so proud of everyone for making it such a great day” said Jenny Olden, Alice Tant’s daughter. The event was a great success raising valuable funds generously matched dollar for dollar by Mounties Group Board of Directors, totalling $2,287. We appreciate all the support from our community members as together we will beat cancer.

Already home to Sydney’s best professional Vietnamese performers, Mekong is now set to kick start the dreams of stardom for talented amateur singers in the 2017 Mekong Golden Voice competition. With $10,000 in cash and prizes to be won, Mekong Golden Voice is one of the largest Vietnamese singing competitions in the country.
Kevin Ingram, Mounties Group President, said Mekong Golden Voice was a unique event and a great way to bring the local community together. “We’re proud to host an event that supports the Vietnamese community and offers local members and guests of all cultures the chance to experience performances they might not see anywhere else,” Mr Ingram said.
Contestants must be aged 18 years and above, and prepared to perform in front of a live audience. The only requirement is that at least one song is sung in traditional Vietnamese language, any additional songs can be sung in English and own compositions are welcome. The competition has three stages: live auditions, semi-finals and the grand final where the winner is crowned. All rounds will have a professional live judging panel giving constructive feedback to contestants. Performers that make it through auditions are then encouraged to bring their friends and family to all finals as votes are calculated on 50% audience vote and 50% judge’s vote.
