DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
In what seems like the snap of a finger, we are transitioning from the cool days of winter into the warmth of spring. Ready or not, it is already that time to start looking for classes and camps that carry us through the spring and summer seasons. In this guide, you’ll find a mix of the community’s favorite programs alongside new offerings that promise fresh experiences and exciting adventures.
Fun fact: On March 29, 2026, the Rengstorff Park Aquatics Center will celebrate its one-year anniversary. We invite you to take a look at the impressive lineup of aquatics programs and lessons currently being offered by our outstanding aquatics staff.
I’d also like to share a few Community Services Department project updates.
The City is currently constructing its 47th park. VillaChiquita Park, a new 0.39-acre park located at Villa Street and Chiquita Avenue, is expected to open to the public this summer. A community grand opening will be scheduled to celebrate this exciting addition.
In addition, the Department is nearing completion of two major master planning efforts. The City’s first-ever Biodiversity and Urban Forest Plan was reviewed and approved by the Parks and Recreation Commission in January. The draft Plan will move forward to City Council for review in April, with final adoption anticipated in June. Thank you to everyone who contributed feedback during the development of this Plan, and to the staff who have led this important effort from the very beginning.
The City’s first combined Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan is also moving forward. After initial review by the Parks and Recreation Commission in November 2025, staff incorporated feedback from Commissioners and community members into an updated draft. This version was reviewed by City Council in late January 2026 and is scheduled to return to the Parks and Recreation Commission on March 17, with final adoption anticipated in May. I extend my sincere thanks to the staff and community members who contributed their time, insight, and support throughout this process.
I look forward to seeing you at a future special event, musical performance, or out enjoying one of our parks soon!
John Marchant Director, Community Services Department
