FONTHILL
CHARMING. SCENIC. ADVENTUROUS. QUAINT.
Welcome to Fonthill, a beautiful hidden gem in the Town of Pelham. If you’re not already familiar with all that the Fonthill community has to offer, get ready to fall in love.
Living in Fonthill means being in the middle of nature without compromising your proximity to amenities. The Niagara Escarpment provides an incredible backdrop to outdoor activities in Fonthill,
whether you enjoy leisurely walks, nature, photography, cycling, or golf.
The downtown, which was revamped in 2011, is a beautiful, walkable space. Local businesses line the streets around Peace Park—from butchers and bakeries to eateries and boutique shops. The park plays host to the local farmers’ market throughout the summer, and Thursday nights bring live concerts.
Fonthill is ideally located just a short drive to Welland, St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, and lovely Port Colborne, with easy highway access. But trust us, you’re not going to want to leave!
It’s romantic, exciting, neighbourly, quaint and trendy. It’s the kind of place you’ve always dreamed of living—a place where others come to explore, but you call home.
THE GREAT OUTDOORS
Fonthill carefully balances development and conservation, making for a community with a wealth of outdoor spaces for nature enthusiasts. Whether you enjoy leisurely walks, family hikes, or morning runs with the dog, you’ll find the perfect spot for it in Fonthill.
PARKS AND TRAILS
Various parks and playgrounds dot the community’s recreation spaces, with walking, hiking, and cycling trails winding in and around the Fonthill area. The 6-km, multi-use Steve Bauer Trail winds through Fonthill’s numerous subdivisions to Welland, while the Fonthill loop of the Bruce Trail, Canada’s oldest and longest marked footpath, is a leisurely 11-km walk through easy terrain.
CONSERVATION AREAS
Lathrop Nature Preserve is located at the headwaters of Twelve Mile Creek and a favourite retreat in the community, offering opportunities for walking, birdwatching, photography, and botanizing. The preserve is protected by the Nature Conservancy of Canada and is home to the Carolinian Life Zone, which includes species like the hooded warbler, butternut, American chestnut,
and prefoliate bellwort, as well as beautiful large tulip trees.
Saint Johns Conservation Area is a tranquil setting for visitors and the resident wildlife. It sits within the Niagara Escarpment and Twelve Mile Creek valley, offering four trails of varying lengths and difficulties, as well as trout fishing and birdwatching opportunities.
CYCLING
Pelham—including the Fonthill community—is a cyclist’s dream. In fact, over 60% of the town’s road network (that’s 150 km!) is considered highly suitable for bikes. Smooth lanes, hilly streets, winding roads, and plenty of short but challenging hills make the area ideal for beginner and experienced cyclists alike. Enjoy the scenic views and picturesque towns as you cross both urban and rural areas during your ride.
For those who enjoy a more leisurely ride, the area offers fantastic opportunities to cruise down the multi-use trails or enjoy a bike tour of the various wineries in the region.
