Hello Friends! Each year, I am excited to share this report with you. This is a moment when MountainStar gets to say thank you and show you just a glimpse of the impact you have on vulnerable families. There are some important numbers to share but what we can’t show you are those little wins we see with families every day. The moment when a child looks at you with happiness, asking to be seen and blossoming with confidence. The moment when a parent’s best becomes even better, and they connect with their child in a new and meaningful way. These are the moments where we celebrate and feel gratitude. These are times we say thank you, because without your commitment, none of it would be possible. Commitment, gratitude, and expansion were our big themes last year, and they remain relevant, but with some big updates to share. We remain committed to growing with the needs of our community and meeting families where they are. We are forever grateful for the many partners it takes to provide our high-quality, trauma-informed services. When it comes to expansion, keep reading! At MountainStar, we see our community’s vulnerable families and we understand the barriers that can turn abuse and neglect into multi-generational issues. We respond with both longstanding as well as innovative solutions, as you can see in the following pages. Families in MountainStar programs are surrounded by a village of support. You are a part of that village, along with other donors, volunteers, advocates, and community partners. Thank you for recognizing the important work we do and standing with us to keep children safe and parents successful. With your commitment and confidence in our services, MountainStar remains at the forefront of conversations around crisis intervention, trauma-informed care, high-quality early childhood programs, and multi-generation impact. This is our work, and we are proud to be a leader in Central Oregon. Again, thank you for your partnership and commitment to child abuse prevention. LA PINE

GROWTH, COMMITMENT & GRATITUDE

Welcome to MountainStar La Pine! Our new location is almost ready, and we are excited to open our doors to families in South Deschutes County. With over seven years of outreach services in La Pine, this new site brings two therapeutic classrooms, meeting space for families, clothing and food banks, and a playground for babies and toddlers. In the first year, MountainStar will serve 30 La Pine children through our therapeutic early childhood program and outreach services, and eventually serve 50 children and their families each year. With this new site, there are new opportunities! We are currently hiring staff, looking for classroom volunteers and Fairy God-Parents, and we’re excited to work with community partners to expand services for families. If you share our vision to nurture a child’s emotional, physical, and intellectual development in a safe environment, then MountainStar is the place for you.

MOUNTAINSTAR EXTENDS A BIG THANK YOU TO THE MANY PARTNERS THAT MADE THIS SITE POSSIBLE: Funding Partners: Deschutes County Board of County Commissioners MountainStar La Pine has been a long vision for our community, and one of the leading voices for this new site was Jessica Sayers. Jess joined MountainStar’s Board of Directors in 2017 and always kept a close eye on our program in La Pine. As our outreach services grew, Jess helped to monitor MountainStar’s impact for children and their families and kept a forward focus on establishing a new site. As board president from 2020-2022, she was integral in the final decisions to move forward with a permanent location. With seed funding from the Deschutes County Board of Commissioners, this fall Jess’s vision finally becomes a reality.

Central Oregon Health Council

Jess passed away on November 12, 2022. MountainStar keeps her and her family forever in our memories. We celebrate her leadership and guidance as our board president and will continue to honor her memory with the many years of services coming to La Pine children and their families. We miss you, Jess.

On August 13, MountainStar hosted its 9th Annual Birdies for Babies (B4B) golf and gala fundraiser with 100% of event proceeds supporting MountainStar’s trauma-informed, strength-based child abuse prevention program for Central Oregon families who are living in crisis. A big thank you to our 9-Year Lead Sponsor, PAHLISCH, a dedicated partner who values the impact of MountainStar’s programs in our community. MountainStar and Webfoot celebrate a 16 YEAR PARTNERSHIP with the launch of Partners for Kids! This initiative is an invitation to the business community to prioritize the safety of our community’s children. MountainStar is the only Central Oregon nonprofit that works directly with vulnerable families to prevent child abuse and neglect – keeping kids safe and parents successful. Gavin Hepp, Webfoot Co-Owner, shares, “I really encourage

businesses to look around our community and see where they can make a difference. Early intervention programs provide an opportunity for real prevention work. Let’s help families that are struggling before things get so bad that children suffer. I’m shocked to hear that almost half of child abuse victims are

under the age of six. MountainStar is the only organization positioned to support families with babies and toddlers who are at the greatest risk for abuse. I really encourage people to check out what prevention looks like and support MountainStar.”

We are the only program in Deschutes, Jefferson, and Crook Countries providing therapeutic classrooms, parenting education services, and family support targeted at protecting babies and toddlers who are at significant risk for abuse and neglect.
