My Little Corner Bonjour from Paris! I’m on a grand adventure with my 14-year-old daughter, Jaiden, who has been performing at Disneyland for the past few days. I could write a book about the interesting things that have happened so far, but my corner is actually pretty little this week. Jaiden is pictured on the cover with her classmate Fiona Sherrington from Calgary. I’ve met Fiona’s mother, Margot, on several occasions, but we haven’t had a chance to get to know each other well. Sitting together on the flight from Calgary to Toronto gave us that opportunity, and I was surprised to learn that Fiona’s grandfather lives at Beaver Mines. Margot shared tales of one of her favourite visits with “Petey” there, and his friends they were thrilled to meet. It is a great story that she has
promised to share in a future issue, so I won’t spoil the details! Petey can be proud of Fiona and her dancing accomplishments — the girls danced at a very high standard and wowed the crowds for three days. I found myself watching with a huge smile on my face and a lump in my throat for the whole troupe, who danced their hearts out. At the age of 43, this is my first trip to Disneyland. I felt like a little kid when I got to snuggle and pose with Stitch, Goofy and Pluto, and apologize if I inadvertently trampled any small children while making my way to the front of the line. We have a few days to explore the sights beyond Disney and then we’ll be glad to head home to our own beds in the “real” wild west. Au revoir! Shannon Robin

A Crowsnest Christmas Anita Ferguson of the Crowsnest Pass Chamber of Commerce invites area shoppers to check out the deals and festivities at Crowsnest Christmas, this coming weekend. The event begins Nov. 17 with a variety of activities: 5 to 9 p.m. – bonfire and free hot chocolate in Gazebo Park; 6 to 10 p.m. – late night shopping; 7 p.m. – parade on Main Street in Blairmore. Crowsnest Thunder Submitted by Vanessa Farraj The Crowsnest Pass Thunder prenovice team 2 started off this season with a bang! The team had its first game of the season Nov. 5 against the Elk Valley Wild in Elkford, B.C., where all the kids had a great time. While some players had game experience from last season, it was a new adventure for many. Both teams played well, and the Thunder rolled to a win over the home team. All the players were very excited to be playing, and judging from the
huge grins on their faces, everyone scored the winning goal – having fun! Thanks to all family members who made the trip to show their support. We look forward to seeing everyone Nov. 20 when the pre-novice Thunder team 2 host Fernie at 9 a.m. at the Coleman Arena. A good mood
The November theme of the Nanton Photography Club is Mood, and members are looking forward to a Nov. 24 presentation by Brad Allen. Brad grew up in Alberta and studied architecture before turning his focus to his passion of photography and filmmaking. His “sense of scale and perspective and creative eye,” developed in his architectural studies, has helped him create detailed images that people can relate to “both personally and professionally.” Brad’s work can be viewed online at www.allenfoto.com . Filming of the straight-to-DVD Disney movie Santa Pups has wrapped up. City Hall, shown above, was decked out for the filming, and downtown businesses were fitted with fake storefronts as many of the scenes took place there. In the movie, featuring Cheryl Ladd of Charlie's Angels fame, Santa and his team of puppies
travel to Pineville to save the day after the spirit of Christmas is ruined by a misunderstanding. The venture brought about 100 actors and crew to Fernie, and just as many locals were used as extras. The DVD is set to be released in time to pick up as a great Christmas gift with some local flavour.
More than candy Alison Fleming and 11 of her friends canvassed Sparwood on Halloween for food bank donations rather than treats. The girls gathered $1,439 to help people in their community.
