THE INSIDER’S GUIDE
Heber Valley is rich in history with buildings and landmarks that span across centuries. It is also one of the fastest-growing areas in the nation, boasting three expansive state parks, an Olympic venue, 90 holes of stunning mountain golf, and a stateof-the-art wellness community. This alpine area offers a variety of family-friendly activities that will make your next visit extraordinary.
Huber Grove Trail
The Huber Grove Trail is so much more than just another hike in Wasatch Mountain State Park. It takes you on an enchanting one-mile journey through one of the first orchards in the Heber Valley. The apple trees in this grove were planted in the 1890s and have been producing apples ever since. The orchard is open for picking and operates on a reservation system from mid-August to mid-September. Visitors also can take free guided tours of the property and historic creamery throughout the summer.
Guardsman Pass Scenic Route
Looking to step off the beaten path? You can’t beat the backcountry drive on Guardsman Pass that connects Park City (via Marsac Avenue) to Midway and the Heber Valley. Guardsman Pass is a seasonal road that is typically open from June to November, depending on snow. The road surface is paved much of the way; however, be prepared to encounter maintained gravel in the middle portion of this route.
Chairlift Rides at Sundance
Take in breathtaking scenic views with scenic chairlift rides at Sundance Mountain Resort. It’s important to know that the lift operates from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Be mindful of the time, especially if you’re at the top trying to get down because the last ride is at 3:30 p.m. Also, no animals of any kind, service or otherwise, are allowed. The Sundance chairlift rides are also a great way to access the highly trafficked and most photogenic waterfall, Stewart Falls. Bypass all the foot traffic and let the lift drop you right at the base of the falls. Additionally, Sundance offers themed lift options like full moon, bike haul and Halloween rides.
Wasatch County Fair
If you are visiting Heber Valley in late July or early August, plan on attending the Wasatch County Fair. The demolition derby and the stampede rodeo, which is touted as one of the best PRCA rodeos in the state, are by far the most sought-after events so buy your tickets now. However, it is a week of jam-packed fun, entertainment, food, music, rides, fireworks and so much more.
Heber Valley Artisan Cheese and Kohler Farm
Take the tour. Feed the farm animals. Pet the calves. Try the free cheese samples and cheese curds that locals call “squeaky cheese.” Sign up for a class. Take home the ice cream. This is one insider tip that may not be so secret. During your summer or fall visit to the Heber Valley, be sure to spend a day at Heber Valley Artisan Cheese and Kohler Farm. There is something for everyone, with a wide array of hands-on activities and events throughout the summer — and tickets are on the cheap, even free for children. It’s a true family adventure that will leave you with an appreciation of farm life and unforgettable memories.

Plein Air Art Festival
The Wasatch Plein Air Paradise event organized by the Midway Art Association is so popular that it draws a growing number of top professional artists and savvy art collectors every year. This two-week-long festival features a plein air competition, auctions, Paint Outs in Midway and Heber City, and Quick Draws, which are festival favorites as spectators can watch artists create works in a matter of minutes. An art exhibition and sales run from July 1-6.
Wasatch Wunder Disc Golf Course
Try your wrist flick at the newest disc golf course in Midway at Wasatch Mountain State Park. This blue-level, highaltitude mountain disc golf course challenges amateur to advanced players with its wide-open sagebrush shots and tight, technical wooded tunnel shots along Pine Creek. The course is also perfect for casual or beginner players who want to try something new, so bring the whole family.
Art Classes
The Art Studio at Sundance offers visitors the unique opportunity to create memories and learn new skills. Choose from single-session workshops in jewelry making, wheel-thrown and hand-built pottery, journal making, soap making, printmaking, drawing, and watercolor and acrylic painting. These workshops are great for families, individuals and adventurers looking for a peaceful way to spend the day. You also can stroll through Sundance Art Gallery, which features a number of exhibiting guest artists.

The annual Swiss Days, Utah’s second-largest festival, celebrates Midway’s heritage. Whether you are of Swiss background or not, you will not want to miss this event that begins with a 10K race followed by a parade and a huge craft fair.
