Passengers of all ages will enjoy a summer ride on the affectionately named Heber Creeper as they experience the scenic views of Deer Creek, Lakeside and Provo Canyon. The Heber Valley Railroad offers affordable pricing, clean railroad cars and one-of-a-kind entertainment. The railroad is operated much like the short line railways that could be seen throughout the rural United States from the 1920s-1950s and it attempts to preserve a slice of “ole time” Americana. All-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and the increasingly popular Razor, which can be described as the love child of golf cart and a four-wheeler, are well known throughout Southern Utah. Heber Valley’s charming Midway, affectionately known as “Little Switzerland” for its dramatic mountain location and Germanic heritage, is giving guests and residents alike one more reason to visit the delightful hamlet with the opening of the new Midway Must-Haves souvenir shoppe. Located in historic Town Hall, site of the original Old Fort Midway and situated in the civic heart of town, the shop is an effort to enhance hospitality and showcase Midway’s local treasures including art, culinary delights, logo apparel, keepsakes and information on local events. “It is our goal and ambition to promote and share the culture of Midway through local brands, services and events that are meaningful and have been inspired by the heritage of this beautiful valley,” said Midway Mayor Celeste Johnson. Tom Stone, the owner of Olde Town Square, the Community Alliance for Main Street (CAMS) group and Heber City have a vision: To help forge Heber City’s Main Street into a center for artists, shop-owners, restaurateurs and the local community. In 2020, Stone, the CAMS group and the City collaborated with local artist, Jason Quinn, to create a mural on the side of the Chamber of Commerce building. The artistic partnership continued when Quinn unveiled his latest mural at “Adventure Fest” June 12th. Adventure Fest kicked off “The Market on Main”—Heber Valley’s Farmer’s Market. The Event featured a “Battle of the Bands”, a 10K run and activities from June 10th through the 12th. “The Market on Main” is held every Thursday afternoon and runs all summer long. The Farmer’s Market features local vendors, farmers and tradesmen. Stone, the CAMS group and the city are energetic about the future of Heber Valley and are working to expand “The Market on Main” to include a Community Art Walk and additional festivals. Since its opening in August of 2019, Heber Valley Brewing has become the neighborhood gathering place. With a comfortable atmosphere and friendly staff, you will feel right at home sampling their unique selection of small batch beers. Owners Clint Jones and Greg Poirier pride themselves on brewing flavorful concoctions and providing a community experience. With eight beers on tap, they keep the selection consistent mixed with seasonal rotations. Patrons can also enjoy the tavern’s beers packaged and canned for easy take home enjoyment. Over the past year and half, Clint and Greg have been honored by local support and encouragement. SONGBIRD
LOCAL SINGER-SONGWRITER ALICIA STOCKMAN Local girl, Alicia Stockman, picked up her dad’s guitar in high school and taught herself to play. Her love for music quickly grew, and before she left for college she received her very first guitar from her parents. (They wanted to make sure she did not steal her dad’s Ibanez.) In college, Alicia wrote songs for fun, not knowing where those songs would take her. Then after graduation she joined a rock band, Bonanza Town. For the next ten years the band played around Heber, Park City and Salt Lake. During this time, she continued writing songs. Alicia revisited her folk-Americana roots and decided to pursue a solo career as a full-time singer-songwriter. Since taking the leap, she’s been recognized for her songwriting craft and featured in songwriting and folk music festivals in Utah and across the country. In 2021, she crowdfunded and recorded her first full-length studio album in Nashville, Tennessee with producer Mary Bragg. The album is set to release summer of 2021.
