Business School Expands Experiential Learning Opportunities

THE RICHARD J. BOLTE, SR. SCHOOL OF BUSINESS has introduced several high-profile partnerships with organizations in Maryland and around the world that open up numerous experiential learning opportunities for students.

Under an agreement with the Washington Commanders, university students will have the opportunity to work directly with the NFL team through semester-long internships and experiential learning projects. Commanders’ employees will benefit from leadership training from Mount faculty and discounted access to undergraduate and graduate business courses through the university’s Division of Continuing Studies. The two organizations will collaborate to develop a service program focused on providing resources to communities in the Washington metropolitan area. University administrators are working with the Washington Commanders Charitable Foundation to plan an initiative. “Working alongside a university with a legacy like the Mount’s means that our team just got stronger,“ said Washington Commanders President Jason Wright. “Our sport management students will work on direct marketing, operations and logistics projects with Washington Commanders personnel and Mount faculty,“ explained John Nauright, Ph.D., dean of the Richard J. Bolte, Sr. School of Business. “Further experiential learning opportunities for sport management students will be available within the course curriculum.“

The Mount also has partnered with Saxbys, a Certified B Corp, to open an exclusively student-run café in the Knott Academic Center starting in the fall. Through the Saxbys Experiential Learning Platform, students will be empowered to attain real-life business experience, in addition to earning college credits and a salary. Senior Chloe Knill will be the inaugural student café executive officer (SCEO), running and managing all aspects of the café, from team development and community leadership to managing the entire profit and loss statement. In its prime location, the cafe is expected to be a busy cornerstone of campus life, providing the student leaders with a dynamic business that presents real-world challenges and opportunities. “The Saxbys partnership will enable students to put what they learn in classrooms into practice, honing their business, entrepreneurial and teambuilding skills,“ said Mount St. Mary’s President Timothy E. Trainor, Ph.D. “This experiential learning opportunity will complement existing leadership development programs on campus and our robust internship program to help ensure that students are well set up for life after graduation.“

Other Bolte School partners include Envestnet, which offers finance students training and opportunities with BlackRock and Fidelity; M&T and Woodsboro Banks, which provide experiential learning and internship-to-job pathways; Wolverhampton Wanderers of the Premier League in England, which allows students to work directly with club personnel on projects; and more.
