HELLO

Welcome to the February issue of LifeStyle Wales . This edition has a huge focus on women’s wellbeing and empowerment, as we feature a multitude of female professionals who embody this mindset.

We chat to Dr Nadia Hikary-Bhal, who along with her husband Kiron, set-up and founded a specialist women’s health clinic and academy to help treat and educate women throughout various key stages of their lives. We also speak to one of Nadia’s patients, Sue, who after treatment was able to do what she loves most again - dance!

Last issue we featured the tenacity and compassion of Nicola Steele, who has set herself the challenge of raising £20,000 for Hope Rescue as the charity celebrates its twentieth anniversary this year. Find out how Nicola has got on within her first month of fund-raising as well as how you can get involved with her zany up and coming events.

For anyone needing inspiration to achieve their lifelong dream, why not take a page out of Sarah Smout’s book? Sarah was given flying lessons for her birthday by her husband, which led her to becoming a pilot of a four engine A340-600 long-haul airbus - an amazing achievement!

Plus, those looking to pursue a career within the health and beauty sector, we were lucky enough to be invited to the recently launched state-of-the-art, training academy within Ocean Park House, Cardiff. Act Training’s Delivery Manager, Charlotte Sims , tells us all about the project on pages 24 and 25.

Within our popular interiors section we take a look at the 2025 Pantone Colour of the year, Mocha Mousse, and how to incorporate it into our homes.

We also chat to one of the incredibly talented Tap End Bathrooms artists, whose dark and moody inspiration design caused an internet sensation, amassing more than 3 million views worldwide.

That’s enough waffle from me, turn the page and enjoy!

Mike

Finally, thank you to all of our advertisers and contributors for your input and support in making this edition the luxury read that it is - we look forward to working with you throughout 2025.

Designer Zoe Curtis’ work has had more than 3 million combined views via The Tap End and tile manufacturers official social media platforms.

The stunning design caught the attention of people all-over the world, gaining well-over 100,000 likes - making it one of the most popular bathroom designs of 2024.

Zoe’s design has also featured within Ideal Home and Metro Magazine, as well as a number of influential home decor pages, including the incredibly popular Bathrooms of Instagram who have more than 1million followers.

The Tap End Director and fellow Designer, Justine Bullock told LifeStyle Wales: “We take immense pride in our work, listening to our client’s needs to realise their vision as best as we possibly can.

“Zoe’s work, along with the rest of my incredible talented team of designers, never fails to impress, but this particular design really struck a chord with people on what can be achieved within their homes.

“Last summer saw the renovation of our tile department, where we have partnered with the highly sought-after CaPietra brand to bring Wales some of the most fabulously fashionable products in the industry.

“Ranging from ceramic to natural stone, feature tiles including book matched porcelain and decor patterns, mosaics and even bathroom grade click flooring for the spend savvy amongst us.

“We use this inspiring area to create our bathroom design tile schemes but we also invite clients to put us to the test for other areas of the home such as hallways, kitchens, splash-backs and even fireplaces.

“All of the tiles used in Zoe’s design are from our tile department. The stark contrast of the dark greens and browns against the lighter colours of white and gold giving the bathroom a truly opulent feel.

“Why not pop in and have a play around with what we have to offer, our extravagant display ranges from mosaics to natural stone, and everything in between - we even have vinyl click flooring for the tile-averse out there and a new coffee machine so you can stay and browse as long as you like!”

MOCHA MOUSSE

ThePantone2025colourforcomfortandelegance!

Timeless and soothing, Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2025 is a neutral tone that inspires feelings of indulgence and relaxation.

Amthal Karim, Head of Design at Furniture And Choice comments: “As a rich but soft brown, Mocha Mousse’s blend of ‘sophisticated, earthy elegance’ captures the general mood of wanting to curl up and savour life’s simple pleasures.”

“Its name makes us think of coffee and chocolate, two flavours often thought of as indulgences. This simple brown hue doesn’t just hold visual appeal, it evokes feelings of calm with a cup of hot chocolate on the side.

“Mocha Mousse is a soft yet expressive neutral that’s an incredibly versatile and timeless colour to decorate with. It makes a great foundation tone, such as a wall colour pick in the living room - a great choice for the much-loved monochrome trend.

“Choosing Mocha Mousse on the walls makes it easy to create a tone-on-tone look where you can layer champagne, beige or cream tones throughout the room. The soft brown tones work brilliantly with wall panelling, setting the mood for an elegant and luxurious living room.

“If you want to try colour drenching with Mocha Mousse the key is to decorate with lots of texture. Materials like wood, leather, velvet, plush fabric or linen help make the room feel less one-dimensional and create a rich, layered look. However, if decorating with a single colour is not for you, Mocha Mousse can be easily paired or mixed with other earth tones. Colours like olive green, terracotta, burnt orange, deep burgundy or earthy pink tones bring out Mocha Mousse’s earthy undertone setting the scene for lush, cosy interiors full of depth.

“Besides a foundation tone, Mocha Mousse can also be used as a light accent tone. For example, a brown sofa acts as the grounding base if you have a bright wall colour like teal. It can also complement other neutrals in a cream or white living room acting as the ‘darker’ accent to break up the light tones.

“Mocha Mousse’s versatility also extends to the latest interior trends. As a soft and comforting neutral, it can be used as the base colour for Modern Art Deco interiors. This will create a stylish contrast with the luxe chrome, gold or bold black accents commonly associated with this style. It can’t be denied that it’s a colour that will make the room feel like a cosy cocoon no matter what interior style you choose.”

BEAUTIFULLY CRAFTED

LeadDesigner,CeriHill,ofChalkhouseKitchens takesusthroughoneofhermostrecentdesigns

The original kitchen in this lovely, old stone property in the Vale was quite dark and awkwardly laid out so the owners decided to reconfigure the space, knock down the outdated conservatory and build a new extension for a utility room.

When planning the new kitchen layout we wanted to maximise the light from the two new front windows so fitting a beautiful walk-in pantry with Critall style glazed door and panels seemed a great solution, it just meant finding space for a laundry area elsewhere.

That problem was solved by creating a neat laundry cupboard with bi-fold doors in the new hallway behind, with room for the washing machine, tumble dryer, heating manifold and storage cupboard, along with a hanging rail for airing clothes. All hidden away when not in use and taking up the minimum amount of floor space.

The owners and their daughters were very keen to create personalised storage in each of the cabinets, taking great care to ensure there was a place for everything in the new layout, which included bespoke pullouts, vertical storage for trays and chopping boards, cutlery drawers and comprehensive larder storage.

A dedicated hot drinks making area for the man of the house was top of his wishlist, with plenty of open shelving to display the collection of coffee cups, storage containers and beloved coffee maker. The main sink was fitted underneath the original small window with expansive views over the countryside.

The large island features lots of generously sized pan drawers for saucepans and baking dishes with hidden internal pullout cutlery/ utensil drawers inside. The American fridge freezer sits alongside the stack of ovens and a second fridge freezer for maximum fresh food storage.

As the kitchen is right alongside the open plan living and dining area, there is space for just two stools at the end of the island for that casual cup of coffee, chatting to the cook.

The walk-in pantry was painted in the same paint as used on the island, Little Greene Paint Company Hopper, chosen to reflect the countryside all around the property.

The owners collection of bright orange Le Creuset cookware is proudly displayed on the open shelving, a beautiful contrast to the green cabinetry.

A small Belfast sink is sited in between the two windows overlooking the front garden, leaving plenty of worktop space either side when preparing veg or hand washing clothes.

DARK AND STORMY

RoperRhodes’takeonthisyear’s most dramatic bathroom trend

Dark bathrooms are taking centre stage in 2025, according to research from luxury bathroom specialists Roper Rhodes. Using data from Pinterest, they found searches for the term ‘Dark Modern Bathroom’ has soared 70% over the last month.

It is a striking departure from the light, bright, biophilic interiors that dominated design over the past three years.

This darker approach embraces bold, elemental, and natural features, offering a moody, sophisticated alternative. Oxblood hues take centre stage, complemented by deep burgundies, warm browns, and dark earthy greens that evoke the grounding aesthetics of nature in its most dramatic forms.

Bold, veined marbles bring a luxurious edge, while dark wood furniture adds warmth and depth to the palette. Smoky quartz, charcoal limestone, and dark terrazzo further enhance the sombre yet serene atmosphere, creating spaces reminiscent of mossy forests, dense fogs, and midnight skies.

Zoe Jones, Senior Creative Producer at Roper Rhodes, said: “The darker months invite us to embrace the atmospheric richness of nature—think velvety moss, swirling mist and inky night skies.

“This taps perfectly into the broader trend for Southern Gothic interiors, where moody palettes, elemental textures, and an interplay of shadow and light create a space with soulful character.

“By incorporating these elements into your bathroom in early 2025, you’ll capture that sense of cosy drama in winter while maintaining a calming, restorative space in summer.

“Whether it’s deep oxblood panelling, smoky marble, or aged brass, these materials create a sanctuary that feels both timeless and compelling, no matter the season.”

Get The Look:

Focus on creating a statement shower area that exudes drama and sophistication. Opt for bold, veined marble tiles as the backdrop, their rich patterns drawing the eye and setting a luxurious tone.

Complement this with aged brassware, whose warm, antique finish adds depth and contrast against the darker materials.

Finally, incorporate oxblood zellige tiles for a touch of texture and rich, moody colour, creating a shower space that is both visually striking and atmospheric—a perfect retreat for any season.

PROTECT YOUR HOME

Aninvaluableadditiontoanyproperty,ensuring yourhome,yourfamilyandyoustaysafe

Crime is often cited as a stand out reason for homeowners to move property, so it’s important that you get a door design that protects you from potential intruders. The Secured by Design (SBD) scheme has been put in place as an initiative to ‘design out crime’, responding to modern statistics and techniques to ensure cutting-edge protection.

Justin Maunder, Director of Vale Composite Doors, spoke to us about the benefits of the SBD scheme. Here’s what he had to say: “Our Secured by Design composite doors offer a standard of protection that ensures the property they are installed into are 75% less likely to be burgled, showing a reduction of 25% in criminal damage.”

“All of our doors are glazed with 4mm toughened safety glass, either double or triple glazed. This glazing design meets BSEN1279 standards for complete door protection.

“Our doors are renowned for their strength and security, our 48mm thick cross-bonded veneered laminated solid timber core delivers unrivalled strength and dimensional stability and is a natural choice for high security, providing our customers with peace of mind.

“Many composite doors on the market utilise a traditional ‘stile and rail’ internal subframe, which offers inferior performance when compared to the our solid LVL core. This is important to note when you’re looking for a new door for your home.

“We understand the importance of feeling safe in your home, which is why we only offer you the most secured designs that will not only protect, but compliment the aesthetic of your home too.

“Why not have a go at designing your own dream composite door using our exciting HomeView Door Designer? Simply upload an external photograph of the door you wish to replace and add your chosen design to the image. This is a great way to see what the finished product could look like.”

A CLASS ACT

ACT’s newest Jobs Growth Wales, plus provision, the Hair and Beauty Academy, is setting the stage for the next generation of hair and beauty professionals.

This cutting-edge facility, located within Cardiff’s Ocean Park House, includes a fully equipped hair studio, a dedicated nail and beauty treatment studio, and multiple classrooms. Together, these spaces are designed to create a real-life salon environment where learners can refine their skills and prepare for successful careers in the industry.

The H&B Academy recently celebrated its soft launch with a festive gathering of partners and local businesses from related fields. The event offered attendees a sneak peek at the Academy’s facilities and a chance to witness its vision in action. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, setting a promising tone for its official opening.

To delve deeper into what makes the Hair & Beauty Academy unique, we spoke with Charlotte Sims, the salon’s Delivery Manager, about the vision, goals, and impact of this transformative initiative.

The Hair and Beauty Academy is a vital part of the JGW+ skills centre. Learners enrolled in hair, beauty and barbering courses through JGW+ will have access to high-quality, industry-standard salons where they can gain experience and insight not only from their tutors but also their peers. Apprenticeship learners, who are further along in their professional journey, will also benefit from fortnightly workshops with their assessors.

Charlotte emphasised the importance of working in a salon setting for building both confidence and competence: “Our learners start on Entry Level and Level 1 courses,” she said.

“Beginning their training in a professional salon environment helps them develop practical skills and theoretical knowledge, making them work-ready.

“They practice everything from shampooing and blow-drying to nails, facials, makeup, and more. As they progress to salon placements, we work closely with their employers to ensure their training is tailored to meet the needs of the business.”

What sets the H&B Academy apart is its personable approach to training. The focus is not only on technical skills but also on employability and personal development.

“We’ve created a welcoming, supportive environment where learners can relax, make new friends, and build their confidence.

Delivery Manager Charlotte Sims and Beauty Tutor Claire Davies

“We also emphasise the importance of health and wellbeing, as this directly impacts their success in the workplace.”

The H&B Academy’s robust support system includes World of Work advisors, learner coaches, counselling services, and Essential Skills development tutors to ensure the underpinning of basic skills like numeracy, communication and digital literacy. These resources ensure that learners are not only developing their craft but also gaining the tools to thrive professionally and personally.

While the practical setting provides invaluable experience, it also presents challenges.

According to Charlotte, building confidence among learners is one of the most significant hurdles: “Sometimes, learners are hesitant to practice their skills on one another,” she said.

“Our tutors play a crucial role in guiding and encouraging them every step of the way.”

However, the rewards far outweigh the challenges. “It’s incredibly fulfilling to see learners grow and excel,” Charlotte added.

“Many of our students come to us after struggling in traditional academic settings. By tapping into their creativity and providing hands-on learning opportunities, we’re often able to unlock their potential. Some have even gone on to own their own salons, barbershops, and beauty businesses.”

Despite only launching this month, the H&B Academy has ambitious goals for the coming year. It aims to expand its cohort of learners and deepen partnerships with local salons to provide more placement opportunities.

“We want to work closely with employers to ensure our training aligns with their needs. By doing so, we’re not only supporting our learners but also contributing to the success of local businesses,” Charlotte explained.

The H&B Academy is also keen to find new talent. For those considering a career in hair and beauty, Charlotte’s advice is simple.

She said: “If you’re passionate about this field, don’t be afraid of hard work. Every task you do, no matter how small, contributes to building your future. From arranging product displays to making clients a cup of tea, these moments teach you valuable people skills and business acumen. Most importantly, have fun. Happy, friendly professionals are what clients want to see, so let your passion shine through in everything you do.”

“In the past, hiring a function room at a venue would be the norm for celebrations, but then you’re at the mercy of having to deal with strangers and other guests visiting the bar or Lounge. Sometimes venues even double or triple book, due to having more than one function room. For some that may be fine, but for others, we offer a venue that’s exclusively yours.

“The Ynys also has a fully working industrial size kitchen, so it’s not a problem for entertaining larger groups with a delicious wedding breakfast and reception meal!

“You have the option to sort your own entertainment or we can do that for you, the same with dressing the venue, along with any other extras such as magicians, singers, hypnotists, and comedians, which can be readily available at an extra cost.

KEEPING HOPE ALIVE

Boutiquebusinessownerisofftoaflyingstart inachievingher£20,000targetforcharity

Last issue we featured the fabulous Nicola Steele who has set herself the task of raising £20,000 for Hope Rescue to coincide its 20th anniversary this year.

As you can see, Nicola is a passionate dog lover, owning and caring for numerous dogs throughout her life.

On a chance meeting at an event, she witnessed first-hand the amazing work that Hope Rescue does, and in her heart she knew that she had to get involved and help in any way possible for the many dogs that are in their care.

Throughout her life, and especially since starting her fashion boutique business Venetia Steele in 2020, Nicola has helped to raise funds for Hope Rescue, as well as many other local charities, but not on this scale.

Nicola told LifeStyle Wales: “It may seem a very high target for one business owner alone, and a lot of people said I’m quite mad, but I know I won’t be doing it on my own as I can call upon many friends to help me along the way.”

“One such friend is Sam Buca, who owns Pink Butterfly Brides, which is also located in Bridgend the same as my boutique. On New Year’s Day Sam cut off her dreadlocks, raising more than £3k in the process.

“Sam is an incredible woman, and I can’t thank her enough for helping me out with my £20k target, it was a truly spectacular way to start the year, and we’d both like to take this opportunity to give an extra special thank you to everyone who has donated.

“Over the course of the next 11 months, I’ll be actively seeking collaborations with other like-minded business owners, looking for them to sponsor me to do an activity of their choosing - just think of me as Challenge Anneka, but its Nicola instead!”

The original format of the show involved Anneka Rice being given a task to accomplish within a certain time period. She was supposed to have no knowledge of what the task of each particular episode would be before it began, and would have to organise its accomplishment by persuading companies and people to contribute their time and resources for free. So if you’d like to set Nicola a challenge at your place of work, which will help aid her to raise funds for Hope Rescue, give her a call.

Nicola added: “I’m literally up for any challenge! I can come and be a plumber for a day, work on a farm, clean cars at your carwash, jump out of a plane or dunk a biscuit into a cup of tea by bungee jumping off a bridge!

“We have more fundraising events already in the pipeline, including a Charity Fashion Show at Old Castle Primary School, Bridgend, on Friday, February 21st. Entry costs just £15 and includes a glass of Prosecco on arrival. The evening of fun and fashion starts at 6:30pm sharp and will showcase the new spring/summer womenswear that will be available from my store. Money raised will go towards my £20k target, as well as helping the Mayor’s appeal - Y Bont, which is a charitable organisation working to meet the needs of children and young people, who for whatever reason are separated, or are at risk of being separated, from their families and to give them support.

20 YEARS OF HOPE

Charityisproudtobecelebratingitstwentieth anniversaryofrescuingunwantedandabandoned dogsacrossSouthWales

Hope Rescue is the leading dog welfare charity that saves the lives of strays, abandoned and unwanted dogs in South Wales.

Since 2005, its team has given a second chance to thousands of dogs that need a new start, from their dedicated facilities in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

They help the most vulnerable dogs in our local communities, working closely with local authorities to support them with their stray dogs and dogs seized from low welfare or illegal breeders. They commit to take all the unclaimed stray dogs from seven local authorities in South Wales, irrespective of their age, breed, or health.

Hope Rescue also take in dogs from pet owners in crisis, as well as offering them advice and support to keep their pets through their new Hope in the Community programme of outreach events and tailored one-to-one support in collaboration with community partners.

The rescue actively campaigns for improvements to animal welfare legislation and enforcement, focusing on improved breeding legislation, dog control and an end to greyhound racing

This year sees the charity celebrate 20 years of making a difference to dogs and owners in need of support. Whilst this milestone year brings many reasons to celebrate helping thousands of dogs to find their safe forever home it also highlights that the sector is in crisis and the team have never been busier.

Founder and CEO, Vanessa Waddon, reflects on how it all started: “I can still vividly remember reading about Last Hope back in 2004, a greyhound from Valley track that was found on Fochriw mountain, shot with a captive bolt gun and with his ears hacked off so he couldn’t be identified by his tattoos, all the time his tail still wagging. I remember being reduced to tears and thinking how awful that was, but more importantly, I knew I wanted to do something about it.”

“I responded to a call for action to support a demo outside the court where the case was being heard, and met some passionate volunteers from Greyhound Rescue Wales and Greyhound Action. The more I learnt about the cruelty involved with greyhound racing, the more I wanted to help.

“I started doing some local campaigning and volunteering, where I also found out about the plight of stray dogs and how at that point over 10,000 were being destroyed every year due to a lack of a rescue space or home.

“This broke my heart, and I started volunteering to help find rescue spaces for dogs in local authority stray dog pounds. Hope Rescue was born out of this work, named after Last Hope, the dog that inspired my rescue journey. A dedicated team of volunteers went into the pounds , assessed the dogs and found rescue spaces, supported by a network of transport volunteers.

“We quickly expanded, using commercial boarding kennels and a wonderful team of foster homes so we could also re-home dogs.

“We achieved charity status in 2009 and took on our first paid employee in 2010.

“I can’t believe how far we’ve come in 20 years. We’ve stayed true to our roots and continue to prioritise stray dogs, now taking in a third of all the unclaimed strays in South Wales as well as dogs seized from illegal and low welfare breeders, and dogs from owners in crisis.

“We now have our own rescue centre, a team of more than 50 staff, four charity shops, a community programme, hundreds of amazing foster carers and the BEST volunteers. We have a strong advocacy voice, and the best anniversary present ever would be to come full circle and see Welsh Government announce the end of greyhound racing in Wales.”

With only weeks into the new year, the team is already welcoming some of the most challenging cases of neglect and abandonment as people continue to struggle with the cost of living crisis and rising vet bills.

Sadly, the reality for this small, grass roots rescue is that they are struggling with the overwhelming demand for their services which takes a toll on their limited resources. The start to the year really has been unprecedented.

The team is committed as ever though, ensuring that no dog is left behind. In their latest update, which you can read online at hoperescue.org.uk/Pages/News/, they feature four stories from the start of the New Year that are assured to touch your heart.

Sara Rosser, Head of Operations, told Lifestyle Wales: “We were hoping that we would start to see numbers begin to reduce, but demand for rescue spaces is higher than ever. The situation for dogs in Wales is getting worse and we are at crisis point – the demand far outstrips the capacity of our rescue.”

“We have some incredible supporters though, and we are thrilled to have Nicola Venetia Steele on board to help raise vital funds in this anniversary year. Nicola has supported Hope Rescue over the years and this year has set a challenge to raise £20,000 through events, challenges, gaining business support and sponsorship. We are super excited to support Nicola and would love to encourage more people to join the 20th Anniversary movement.

“There are so many ways to get involved from attending our 20th Anniversary Ball in March, take part in an adrenaline challenge by taking on our zipwire challenge, join #TeamHope in the Cardiff Half and much more. Head to our website for how to get involved or get in touch with our fundraising team fundraising@ hoperescue.org.uk.

“You could also consider making a one-off donation or a regular gift from just £5 a month would help us to continue our life-changing work for dogs like Brooklyn the Dachshund and her lovely pups (pictured). This crisis is only getting worse, and your support really would mean the world to us.”

SKY’S THE LIMIT

We chat to Sarah SmoutofCardiff, whohasrealised herlifelongdreamofbecomingapilot

November 2016 is where it all began for me - my husband bought me a flying lesson for my birthday, after expressing an interest in becoming a pilot during a holiday in Mexico.

I’ve always had a passion for flying and travelling the world, so this gift was a lifelong dream come true for me.

A year later in 2017, I went to the Pilot Careers Event at The Sofitel in Heathrow and spoke to various training organisations. One company in particular caught my attention, Global Aviation. After a long chat with them they invited me to their headquarters in Greece, where over the proceeding weeks I sat as back passenger in their aircraft to observe training flights, as well as experiencing the ground school instruction too.

In January of 2018 I started the integrated course, which I completed a year later in February of 2019. I was lucky enough to get 14 first-time passes in my ATPL exams with a grade average of 90%.

After gaining the qualifications I needed to become a pilot, now was the time to start looking for a job. I applied to many airlines and easyJet was where I got my first job offer. I started my Type Rating in November, then working on the line in February of 2020.

After completing my sectors a month later Covid hit, which meant my line training came to a sudden halt. At this time I was worried that I may lose my job, but I was very lucky, as fortunately for me easyJet didn’t make any redundancies.

After 15-16 months with no flying it was finally time to resume my training and enjoy what I love doing best - soaring through the sky!

I had an amazing time at easyJet and gained so much experience flying all around Europe. I transferred to Bristol which was my preferred base in February of 2023 and started to fly an A321 too.

Having flown short haul for 4 and a half years, I felt it was time for me to move on - I’ve always had an ambition to fly long haul and see the rest of the world.

I saw an advert for First Officers at European Cargo based in Bournemouth who operate A340-600’s. I instantly applied for the job and went for an interview. I was absolutely over the moon when I was accepted, as it has always been a dream to fly a four engine plane, especially an Airbus - I was literally flying high!

My ground school training started last summer in Bournemouth and I then went to Frankfurt to complete the simulator phase. Excited was not the word when I passed my final check and could then start my new line training.

Since the autumn I have flown a few times to China and have seen some spectacular views over the Himalayas. I have just become a Senior First Officer and look forward to travelling to some great places and some amazing flights in 2025.

European Cargo has expanded its UK network and now has an aircraft based in Cardiff. This is really exciting news for the future as I may get to spend more time in my hometown of Chepstow and fly from the Welsh capital.

For anyone who has ever had a dream of doing something, I say just go for it - What have you got to lose?

I WHiL

Threereasonswhy2025istheyear ofoptimisingyourhealth

Whilst a new year is an exciting time for many of us, it can also bring up health anxiety. We see a sudden shift in our social media feeds. One minute it’s family time and festive treats, the next minute - it’s gone from pigs in blankets to 5k runs!

It’s an alarming change of pace from the days of grazing to be replaced by restrictive eating and mounting workloads. It’s loaded with pressure to evolve into perfect versions of ourselves, know our goals, and hit the gym harder than ever, amongst the 40% rise in visitors from the previous two months.*

Whilst we may welcome a healthy reset after over-indulging in December - how many of us are actually building sustainable health habits that will last for the whole year? Surely what matters more than a healthy few weeks in January, is a healthier journey through life…

Here Dr Ros Jabar of Ros Medics takes us through three easy steps for optimising one’s health this year:

ONE: Reflect on your habits for sustainable change Firstly, there’s no better time than now to take the first step toward better health. Our habits become who we are. The starting point for lasting change is to understand the trigger points that have caused us to fail in the past.

As a GMC registered doctor, business owner, mother, wife, and friend, juggling has always been my natural process. As I’ve grown into these roles, so has my passion for helping others to take control of their health.

When I first put together the principles of WHiL, (which stands for Wellness and Health in Life), I knew of the potential to transform lives.

What I didn’t fully anticipate was just how much they would transform my own life.

Six months ago, despite my years of medical training, I realised I wasn’t fully practising what I was preaching. Like so many of us, I was trying to manage endless demands. It left me feeling tired, sluggish, and not as present as I wanted to be because I wasn’t prioritising my health. So, I fully committed myself to the WHiL principles.

The results? Nothing short of life-changing.

TWO: Small steps lead to big changes

Circadian rhythm: By prioritising my body’s natural rhythm and practising daily mindfulness, I experienced a profound improvement in my daily mood. Doing these two things alone I started to be more refreshed, positive, and more resilient to stress.

Energy Levels: Focusing on proper hydration, consistent movement, and nutrient-dense meals has given me vitality I haven’t felt in years. Whether at work or with family, I now have much more energy to be more present.

Healthy Weight Loss: By integrating simple steps —like walking to work, after meals, and improving my gut health—I’ve experienced sustainable weight loss. More importantly, I feel strong, energised, and healthy in my body.

Overall Wellbeing: The biggest change, however, has been an overwhelming sense of balance and well-being. These principles aren’t just about physical health—they’re about fostering harmony in every aspect of life because everything is connected.

“Here’s to a healthier, happier you in 2025! ”

THREE: Why WHiL Can Work For Everyone

The beauty of the WHiL programme lies in its simplicity. These principles don’t require drastic changes, expensive gadgets, or hours of your day.

They’re about small, manageable adjustments— fully hydrating yourself first thing in the morning, stepping outside for natural light, or practising box breathing during stressful moments. These tiny changes build over time, creating a ripple effect of positive results. I truly believe that if these principles can make such a profound difference for me, they can do the same for you.

How To Start Your Health Optimisation Journey

Whether you’re looking to boost your energy, improve your sleep, or simply feel more in control of your wellness, WHiL is here to guide you every step of the way.

The WHiL programme isn’t just for individuals—it’s for communities. Imagine the impact if we all made these small changes and shared our success with friends and family. Together, we can create a movement of wellness that uplifts everyone around us.

Join the WHiL Movement

If my journey has inspired you, I encourage you to join the WHiL waitlist and take the first step toward a healthier, happier you. By signing up, you’ll be the first to gain access to tools like the daily habits checklist and personalised guidance to make these principles work for your unique lifestyle. You can also book a free 15-minute consultation with me to chat through personal concerns and understand fully how WHiL can help you.

2025 is a year of growth, vitality, and balance. Let’s make it the year we take control of our health — one small habit at a time.

EMPOWERING WOMEN’S HEALTH

Dedicatedhealthclinicsupportswomen throughoutvariouskeystagesintheirlife

Infiniti Healthcare is the brainchild of husband and wife team, Consultant Gynaecologist, Mr Kiron Bhal and Consultant Gynaecologist/Menopause Specialist, Dr Nadia Hikary-Bhal.

The couple have more than 50 years of women’s health experience between them, being strongly passionate about pelvic health and how it connects to women’s overall health and wellbeing.

Despite their very busy NHS Consultant posts, they always dreamt of having their own space and finally realised that dream by launching Infiniti Healthcare in 2013 - an award-winning Women’s Health and Menopause clinic, which is based in Cardiff Gate International Business Park.

Being devoted parents, and their love for exploring countries as a family in their SUV, Kiron and Nadia chose the name Infiniti as their children could be represented within their company name - with each child representing an “I”. Blue dots for their three boys and one pink dot for their princess daughter.

The couple are well-known for their compassion and professionalism, where women are openly invited to ask anything they need to know about the pelvic floor, childbirth trauma, infertility, menopause, and anything else in between!

The mission and focus for their clinic is on holistic care for both physical and mental well-being, which is why their clinic is so highly sought-after.

Mr Kiron
Dr Nadia
“Holistic care for both physical and mental well-being.”

The care is delivered by women’s health experts, collaborating with a wide range of health care professionals to offer a 360 degree complete and compassionate approach to health.

Nadia told LifeStyle Wales: “Women’s health is multi-faceted, and every individual deserves personalised care that’s both empowering and non-judgmental.”

“We look after women from the age 18 onwards focusing on all conditions related to pelvic floor health, menopause and general women’s wellness - so when we say a complete approach to women’s health, just think of us as the Amazon of gynaecology for pelvic health and menopause, whatever you’re searching for we have a solution for it!

“We like to think that a women’s journey starts with us, and whatever they need along the way is offered in-house. If they need investigations, such as Ultrasound scans, urodynamics even cystoscopy, which is a camera in the bladder, as well as physiotherapy, all of which can be arranged in-house.

“We offer treatments such as hormone implants, coils, bladder nerve stimulation (PTNS) and bladder botox.

“We specialise in pelvic floor conditions including an overactive bladder, incontinence, recurrent UTIs, prolapse, bowel incontinence and vaginismus, which I’ll go into greater detail later on.

“Ultimately, we are very passionate about offering women alternative choices and therefore are proud to announce we are the first and only clinic in Wales offering ThermiVa, a radiofrequency device with a multitude of benefits.

“We were also the first in Wales to offer PelviPowerTM, an external magnetic stimulation of pelvic floor muscles not only alleviating clinical conditions such as incontinence but offering transformative results such as the bum lift and glute muscle conditioning.

“We are able to offer our signature treatment ThermiPowerTM, which utilises both treatment modalities to achieve highly satisfactory resultsmore info about this incredible treatment can be found on our website.

“Pelvic health issues can be stigmatised, but at Infiniti Healthcare, there is no shame in seeking support - we normalise these concerns as a trusted partner in every aspect of your pelvic health.

“For those who prefer to keeps things private, we’ve embraced the latest technology to offer virtual or Zoom consultations. This means you can meet with our healthcare professionals online, right from the comfort of your own home.

“These virtual visits are perfect for most clinical conditions where a physical examination isn’t needed right away. We can usually arrange these consultations at a time that works best for you, making it easier and more convenient to get the care you need.”

Case Study: Waltzing Her WayTo Wellness

Sue is a vibrant 75-year-old who visited Dr. Nadia last summer with symptoms of pelvic organ prolapse. These symptoms were so bothersome that they kept her from enjoying her favourite activities, like dancing.

Understanding Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP): POP occurs when one or more of the vaginal walls or the womb start to bulge. This typically results from a weakness in the pelvic floor, often due to childbirth.

Dr. Nadia’s Approach: Dr. Nadia began by taking a detailed history to understand Sue’s symptoms and how they were affecting her daily life. She learned that Sue cherished dancing and walking, but her condition was significantly limiting her ability to enjoy these simple pleasures.

The Treatment Plan: After a comprehensive assessment and examination, Sue decided to try a vaginal ring pessary. In addition to the pessary, Dr. Nadia prescribed vaginal oestrogen cream to aid in her recovery.

Vaginal ring pessaries are simple, versatile devices made from materials like PVC or silicone. They come in various sizes and shapes, and it can take up to six trials to find the most comfortable fit—much like finding the perfect pair of jeans!

A Happy Outcome: Sue had a wonderfully successful experience with the vaginal ring pessary. She is thrilled to be back on the dance floor and enjoying life to the fullest once again!

If you are suffering with pelvic health problems, please do not hesitate to get in touch with Infiniti Healthcare. A friendly and helpful team member is waiting to take your call.
