The UK’s used car market rose by 6.5% in the first quarter of 2024 with 1,967,923 units finding new owners – the strongest start to a year since pre-pandemic 2019, according to the latest figures published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
The increase marks 16 months of successive growth, reflecting recovering supply in the new car market which is in turn improving availability and choice of second-hand motors. Used car transactions have risen in every month of the year to date, but despite this robust growth, the quarter’s transactions remain - 2.6% below pre-covid levels.
Increasing numbers of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) are now entering the used sector, with Q1 sales up by more than two thirds (71.0%) to 41,505 – posting a new record market share of 2.1%. This makes BEVs the fastest growing powertrain as more buyers are attracted to the potential cost-saving and environmental benefits. Hybrids (HEVs) also continued to sell in greater volumes, with 74,502 changing hands in a 49.3% rise. Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), too, grew in popularity, with sales up 42.5% to 22,065.
Superminis remained the most popular vehicle type, with 640,711 changing hands – a 7.2% increase. In second place, the lower medium segment grew by 9.2% and saw the biggest volume gain at 45,301 units. Rounding off the top three, which remains unchanged on the same period in 2023, dual purpose represented 16.0% of the market and recorded the best percentage growth with a 10.3% rise. Together, these segments accounted for three quarters of all cars sold in the period. At the other end of the scale, executive, luxury saloon and upper medium were the only segments to record declines, down -3.5%, -2% and -0.5% respectively.
Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive, said,
A reinvigorated new car market is delivering more choice and affordability for used car buyers and, increasingly, they are choosing to go electric. To enable even more drivers to enjoy the benefits of zero emission motoring, ensuring both supply and demand remains robust is essential. Incentivising new EV uptake and investing in a charge point network that is accessible, available and affordable to all will drive the nation’s net zero transition.
We will continue to report on the Motor Industry’s ongoing ebbs and flows in future issues – onward and upward.
Best wishes
Britain’s motorists and businesses got behind the wheel in record numbers last year while at the same time reducing their carbon emissions, new Motorparc figures from SMMT this week show. More than 41.4 million cars, vans, trucks and buses were in use in 2023, with the biggest jump in car ownership since 2016 – in part thanks to new zero emission vehicle (ZEV) uptake almost doubling year on year. The carbon saving as a result was equivalent to the average UK car emitting -2.1% less CO2 annually, underlining the importance of getting more ZEVs on our roads. It’s a mission statement not just for the car but the van, bus and truck sectors, too, each facing similarly ambitious decarbonisation targets yet at very different stages of their transition. Demand for the greenest trucks is some way behind them all, however, with ZEVs accounting for just one in 200 new HGVs registered. This makes the 2035 end of sale of new fossil-fuel powered trucks weighing up to 26 tonnes, which account for more than 70% of the market, an immense challenge that needs urgent attention from policymakers.
Manufacturers have committed billions to bring a huge range of competitive ZEV models to market but, to get mass adoption rolling, Britain needs a globally competitive environment for fleet decarbonisation enabling operators to access the latest, greenest vehicles and use them to their full potential. Major industry innovation was clear to see at this week’s Commercial Vehicle Show, featuring some 118 new HGVs and light commercial vehicles coming to market –many of them zero emission. As set out in a new SMMT paper published at the event, however, a ‘next generation’ Plug-in Truck Grant is essential for more operators to switch to the latest zero emission trucks, along with a nationally joined-up plan for ZEV infrastructure at depots and public locations. Given the time such projects will take to complete, such a plan is already well overdue.
Infrastructure is still one of the biggest barriers to greater EV adoption across all vehicle types, so it was disappointing that government last week, in its response to a House of Lords Environment and Climate Change Committee report, ruled out putting public charging VAT on par with home charging. The move would have ensured a fairer transition for consumers and sent a message that the time to switch is now. SMMT’s latest car manufacturing data shows industry is already well committed to a mass transition, with OEMs continuing to adjust their factories to make a new generation of cars, notably electric. The latest independent outlook, meanwhile, expects zero emission commercial vehicle output to continue its growth across 2024. But mass adoption of these vehicles now depends on factors beyond the factory gate. It’s high time that all new vehicle buyers – from consumers to fleet operators – got the encouragement they sorely need.

The2024all-electricLexusRZluxurySUV:newversions,newgrades andanenrichedLexusEVownershipexperience
Lexus is making the first revisions to its all-electric RZ luxury SUV range, introducing a new front-wheel drive model and a new entry-level grade, providing more customer choice and the potential for an increased driving range.
The Lexus EV ownership experience is also being enriched with the roll-out of Lexus Reserve, a ground-breaking complimentary hybrid vehicle loan programme for owners of Lexus electric cars.
Introducing the RZ 300e
Lexus is extending its RZ range for 2024 with the introduction of the new RZ 300e, a front-wheel drive version of its all-electric luxury SUV. It will join the line-up later in 2024 alongside the RZ 450e, introduced in 2023 which uses Lexus’s DIRECT4 all-wheel drive system.
In this new form, the RZ has an increased official driving range of up to 297 miles (WLTP combined cycle with 18-inch wheels), compared to 272 miles for the RZ 450e.
The RZ 300e uses the same 71.4kW/h lithium-ion battery as its sister model, powering a front electric motor. Output is 201bhp (150kW) with 266Nm maximum torque, enabling 0-62mph acceleration in eight seconds.
Structurally, the new model adopts a rear subframe, replacing the e-Axle unit featured in the all-wheel drive version.
In other respects, the two RZ versions are alike, displaying uniquely Lexus takumi craftsmanship luxury, a fully digital cockpit and the latest safety and multimedia technologies with the third generation Lexus Safety System+ features and the Lexus Link Pro multimedia system.
Urban: the new RZ entry-level equipment grade
Customer choice will be further extended later in 2024 with the addition of a new entry-level Urban grade for the RZ – both the new 300e and 450e versions.
The equipment specification remains fitting for a Lexus luxury model, with standard features including 18” alloy wheels, to help maximise the EV driving range, the Lexus Link Pro multimedia system with 14-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone charger, dual-zone climate control, heated steering wheel and a 10-speaker audio system.
Safety and driver assistance features, in addition to the Lexus Safety System+ package, include Intelligent Clearance Sonar with front and rear sensors, Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert with auto-braking and the Safe Exit Assist system to help prevent doors inadvertently being opened into the path of traffic approaching from the rear.
Across the wider model range, customers can now specify 18-inch wheels, to help maximise their RZ’s driving range, on both Premium and Premium Plus versions.
Prices and ordering details for the new RZ range and equipment options will be announced nearer the on-sale date later in 2024.

All-newToyotaC-HRcrownedBestHybridandNewCaroftheYear intheAutomotiveManagementAwards
Toyota’s multi-path technology strategy for delivering sustained reductions in carbon emissions on the journey to ultimate carbon neutrality has helped secure two prestigious awards for the all-new Toyota C-HR.
The Toyota C-HR Plug-in is winner of the Best Hybrid in the Automotive Management (AM) Awards, while the Toyota C-HR range is AM’s New Car of the Year.
Presented at a dinner hosted last night, the honours reward the model’s all-round qualities, from the technical excellence of its powertrains to the quality of its design and its adept application of advanced technologies.
Tim Rose, AM Editor, said: “Our dealer readers are clearly impressed with the Toyota C-HR as they voted for it to win a fantastic duo of awards. In plug-in guise it has stand-out style, comfort and instant zip, and it’s frugal too. And no matter the powertrain, any C-HR stands out from the crowd with its cool looks, excellent real-world efficiency and a plush interior filled with tech that’s easy to use. It really shows the fun side of Toyota.”
Stuart Sanders, Toyota (GB) Communications and Product Director, commented: “The Toyota C-HR is a successful standard-bearer for our approach to achieving meaningful and lasting reductions in carbon emissions through multiple technology solutions. More than that, as these great awards acknowledge, we’ve made it a highly desirable proposition in terms of impactful design, advanced equipment specifications and extension of its Toyota Safety Sense systems to provide even higher levels of protection and assistance.”
The second generation model of the popular coupe-styled mid-size SUV offers customers more hybrid powertrain choices with 1.8 and 2.0-litre full hybrids and a new 2.0-litre plug-in hybrid, creating a line-up that’s unmatched in its class. All three systems benefit from fifth generation Toyota hybrid technology
which maximises fuel and emissions efficiency while delivering smooth, responsive performance and enhanced all-electric EV driving capability
With 223bhp available, The Toyota C-HR Plug-in is the performance leader in the range, and also the most energy and emissions-efficient. On a full battery charge it has an official (WLTP) driving range of up to 41 miles; unlike most competitor plug-in hybrid systems, when the battery charge is depleted the vehicle switches seamlessly to hybrid operation, rather than defaulting to its petrol engine, ensuring a high level of fuel and emissions efficiency is maintained.
These qualities are matched with contemporary exterior styling that presents an even stronger rendition of the coupe-inspired lines of the original Toyota C-HR. Technology features are equally cutting edge, with a fully digital user experience that includes a customisable driver’s instrument combimeter and multimedia systems that are quick to respond and easier to operate using touchscreens or simple, conversational voice commands. Similarly, the Toyota Safety Sense package features new, extended and enhanced systems that can provide assistance in an even wider range of common accident risk scenarios.
Full information about the all-new Toyota C-HR is available at the Toyota UK media website at www.media.toyota.co.uk

Filling the space between the racetrack experience and soul-stirring road performance, the new BMW M4 CS celebrates racing passion with lightweight design elements for every day driving comfort.
With an increased engine output of 550 hp, model-specific chassis tuning and minimised weight – helped by numerous components made from carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) – the BMW M4 CS (fuel consumption, combined 27.7 mpg; CO2 emissions combined: 232 g/km in the WLTP cycle, CO2 class: G) bring an extra edge to the BMW M4 Coupé vehicle concept of four seats, everyday practicality, advanced equipment and exclusive design features.
Production of the new BMW M4 CS will start in July 2024 at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing, with order books opening in late May. The BMW M4 CS is priced from £117,100 RRP with first deliveries in the UK arriving in Autumn 2024.
The new BMW M4 CS invites owners to experience the iconic M feeling in all its depth and breadth. Its distinctive character profile places it exactly midway between the new BMW M4 Competition Coupé with M xDrive (fuel consumption, combined 28.0 – 28.3 mpg; CO2 emissions, combined: 229 – 226 g/km in the WLTP cycle, CO2 class: G) – complete with its recently introduced performance, design and equipment upgrades – and the 1,000-unit limited-run BMW M4 CSL special edition (fuel consumption, combined 28.0 –28.5 mpg; CO2 emissions, combined: 227 – 224 g/km in the WLTP cycle, CO2 class: G). The performance of the new BMW M4 CS is the product of M-typical racing genes, which offer constant reminders of their presence in everyday driving on the road and enjoy full expression out on the track.
The model-specific performance characteristics of the six-cylinder in-line engine in the BMW M4 CS, an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and M xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive infuse the new model with dynamic poise and assurance. Instantaneous power delivery and optimised traction enable acceleration of 0 to 62 mph in just 3.4 seconds. In testing at the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife circuit –the ultimate barometer for all BMW M cars – the new BMW M4 CS recorded an official time of 7 min. 21.989 sec. for the full 20.832-kilometre (12.943-mile) lap.
Six-cylinder in-line engine developed for motor sport. The race-focused character of the new BMW M4 CS is immediately recognisable. Powered by a high-revving six-cylinder in-line engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology, the 3.0-litre has track performance from day one of its development. With a rigid crankcase featuring sleeve-free, closed-deck construction and a forged lightweight crankshaft which displays exceptional torsional resistance, both giving the engine its rapid power delivery. The wire-arc sprayed iron coating of the likewise weight-saving cylinder bores reduces frictional losses and the cylinder head has a 3D-printed core. This additive manufacturing process allows the coolant ducts to be routed in an optimum arrangement for temperature management that would be impossible to achieve using conventional metal casting methods. And the system of oil supply – like the cooling system – is designed to handle the specific challenges of track use, including consistently high revs and extreme lateral acceleration.
Bespoke performance characteristics, distinctive sound. Racing technology provides the foundations for the extraordinary potential of the six-cylinder in-line engine, which produces maximum output of 550 hp from under the bonnet of the new BMW M4 CS.
Representing a 20 hp increase from the BMW M4 Competition Coupé with M xDrive, the power boost was achieved through targeted revisions to the engine’s M TwinPower Turbo technology and required no concessions in stability or durability. The adjustments focused on raising the maximum charge pressure of the two mono-scroll turbochargers to 2.1 bar and making model-specific tweaks to the engine management.
The upgrades also produce a specific take on familiar M performance characteristics, with instantaneous power delivery that continues unabated through to the upper echelons of the rev range a particularly dominant theme. The engine in the new BMW M4 CS puts its peak torque of 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) on tap from just 2,750 rpm up to 5,950 rpm and develops maximum output at 6,250 rpm and has a 7,200 rpm red line. Contributing to the excellent engine response is a model-specific engine mounting with increased spring rates; the rigid connection between the power unit and the vehicle’s structure enables direct transmission of its power to the drivetrain every time the driver presses the accelerator.
The instantly available power and high-revving character of the engine pave the way for imposing acceleration figures. The new BMW M4 CS dashes from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.4 seconds, while 0 to 124 mph takes 11.1 seconds. The mid-range sprint from 50 – 75 mph is dealt with in 2.6 seconds in 4th gear and 3.3 seconds in 5th gear. The top speed of the special edition is electronically limited to 188 mph.
The engine’s power delivery is accompanied by an emotionally stirring soundtrack generated by the dual-branch exhaust system, which features electrically controlled flaps, a titanium rear silencer with weight-minimising design and – in customary M fashion – two pairs of tailpipes painted in matt Black.
The engine’s acoustic presence adjusts to the powertrain setting selected via the M Setup menu. In SPORT and SPORT+ modes, the engine note gains unmissable racing car undertones, injecting aural drama during gear changes and the accompanying adjustments in rev speed.
Eight-speed M Steptronic transmission, M xDrive and active M differential convert outstanding power into imposing performance.
The engine’s drive torque is relayed to all four wheels of the new BMW M4 CS via an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic, operated using either the M-specific gear selector lever on the centre console or the carbon-fibre shift paddles on the steering wheel. The Drivelogic button integrated into the selector lever allows the driver to alter the transmission’s shift characteristics as desired, with a choice of settings available: one comfort-oriented, one for sports performance and one optimised specifically for track use.
The engine’s power is channelled onto the road by the M xDrive system. This intelligent all-wheel-drive technology uses an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch in the transfer case to distribute the engine’s power smoothly between the front and rear wheels – and to maximise traction, agility, and directional stability in any situation. The multi-plate clutch’s oil supply has been optimised to ensure the all-wheel-drive system continues to perform effectively even during ultra-intense track sessions.
The M xDrive system’s rear-wheel bias and the way it teams up with the Active M Differential at the rear axle – whose operation is also fully variable – add to the signature M feeling when accelerating or powering through corners. Furthermore, the M Setup menu allows 4WD Sport mode to be selected, which directs an even greater proportion of the engine’s torque to the rear wheels. Drivers can switch off the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system altogether and engage pure rear-wheel drive via 2WD mode.
Model-specific tuning for the chassis technology and control systems
The chassis technology for the new BMW M4 CS has been tuned precisely to the performance characteristics of the engine, the overall vehicle concept, and its weight distribution.
The individually tuned axle kinematics and bespoke wheel camber settings, dampers, auxiliary springs and anti-roll bars serve to optimise steering precision, transmission of lateral control forces when cornering, spring and damping response and wheel location.
The electronically controlled dampers of the adaptive M suspension on the new BMW M4 CS likewise come in a model-specific setup, as do its electromechanical M Servotronic steering with variable ratio and its integrated braking system. The settings for the DSC system and M Dynamic Mode have also been purposefully geared to the demands of dynamic circuit driving. M Dynamic Mode gives drivers extra leeway to explore the car’s dynamic limits by pushing back the intervention points for the DSC system’s various stabilising measures. When the driver adopts a sporty driving style, the resultant wheel slip ensures even better power transmission and helps to propel the car down the road with extra assurance.
Exclusive forged light-alloy wheels and track tyres fitted as standard.
The special-edition model is equipped as standard with M Compound brakes with callipers painted in a choice of Red or Black while the callipers for the optional M Carbon ceramic brakes can be specified in a Red or matt Gold painted finish. The new BMW M4 CS comes as standard with forged M light-alloy wheels in an exclusive V-spoke design – available in either in matt Gold Bronze or matt Black.
The lightweight wheels (19-inch at the front axle and 20-inch at the rear) are fitted as standard with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres or optionally with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R, to maximise the performance experience on track. Offering outstanding lateral control and directional stability, precise steering feel and optimum traction, these track tyres – in the dimensions 275/35 ZR19 (front) and 285/30 ZR20 (rear) – represent a compelling proposition – while customers intending to use their BMW M4 CS for day-to-day driving can select high-performance tyres in the same size as a no-cost option.
Intensive application of lightweight design.
Extensive lightweight design measures play a major part in moulding the performance qualities and exclusive character of the new BMW M4 CS. The use of components made from carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) is of key importance here – the carbon-fibre roofs low weight brings the car’s centre of gravity closer to the road and therefore enhancing agility and cornering dynamics. The bonnet, front splitter, front air intakes, exterior mirror caps, rear diffuser and Gurney-style rear spoiler are also made from this lightweight, hightech material.
Intelligent lightweight design is also evident in the interior, with the centre console, shift paddles on the steering wheel and other interior trim elements made from CFRP. The special-edition model comes as standard with M Carbon bucket seats, whose weight-minimising construction is highlighted by the use of CFRP in the structural elements of the seat cushion and backrest, as well as in the eye-catching cut-outs in the side bolsters and below the head restraints. Added to which, the exhaust system on the new BMW M4 CS is more than four kilograms lighter, thanks to the use of a titanium rear silencer. These lightweight design measures bring the car’s weight down by 20 kilograms compared to the BMW M4 Competition Coupé with M xDrive.
M front end strut brace maximises torsional rigidity.
The M front end strut brace – also engineered for lightness – increases torsional rigidity and improve handling through dynamically taken corners. The cast aluminium elements connecting the spring strut towers to the front end feature a weight-optimised geometry that has been precisely matched – with the help of numerical models – to the forces applied in various driving situations.
Exclusive design features promise thrilling performance. The new BMW M4 CS is offered in two new BMW Individual paint finishes; Riviera Blue solid and Frozen Isle of Man Green metallic, while exposed carbon fibre for the roof, bonnet indents, front splitter, front air intakes, M exterior mirror caps, rear spoiler and rear apron highlight the models distinctive character. Together with the Black side skirts and M gills, the CFRP elements provide a stunning contrast against the bold new paint finishes. The new BMW M4 CS can also be specified in M Brooklyn Grey metallic and Sapphire Black metallic.
The vehicle’s front-end sports a weight-saving, frameless BMW kidney grille that was designed especially for this mode, including red contour lines and the “M4 CS” badging on the upper of the two horizontal grille bars. Both model badge at the front and its counterpart on the boot lid have black surfaces with a red border.
Eye-catching headlights add another flourish to the front end of the new BMW M4 CS. Their sculptural light icons illuminate yellow instead of white – both during the Welcome Light Animation and while low beam or high beam is switched on – while the rear lights of the BMW M4 CS make a visual statement with their striking appearance during the hours of darkness.
M Carbon bucket seats with exclusive design cues. The cockpit of the BMW M4 CS focuses solely on delivering an exhilarating driving experience, by blending its distinct racing aura with comfort features for everyday driving. The standard M Alcantara steering wheel in three-spoke design with a flat-bottomed rim offers a perfect combination of secure grip for dynamic driving manoeuvres and impressive comfort on longer journeys. Its red centre marker and CFRP shift paddles add an authentic racing flavour to the cockpit.
The M Carbon bucket seats in the BMW M4 CS are upholstered in Merino leather and come in an exclusive design with a Black/Red colour scheme and distinctive contrast stitching. This bi-colour finish is carried over into the rear compartment of the high-performance sports car and both the door panels in the front and the rear side panelling are trimmed entirely in Black leather. Red “CS” lettering on the centre console, M seat belts with contrast stitching in the BMW M GmbH colours, an Anthracite-coloured headliner, interior trim strips in Carbon Fibre finish and door sill plates with the inscription “M4 CS” all add to the exclusive ambience inside the car.
BMW Curved Display with M-specific readouts, iDrive. The latest version of the BMW iDrive display and control/operation system based on BMW Operating System 8.5 provides intuitive control of numerous vehicle functions and digital services. The BMW Curved Display features M-specific readouts and is angled towards the driver, helping them to focus on the road ahead. The fully digital screen grouping is formed by a 12.3-inch information display behind the steering wheel and a control display with a screen diagonal of 14.9 inches. The familiar M Shift Lights appear at the top of the information display, while the driving stability system, M xDrive and traction control modes are all indicated in the lower area. Special widgets containing information on the current vehicle setup, as well as tyre pressures and temperature can be added to the control display’s home screen.
The upgraded BMW iDrive also comprises the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant and has been designed with particular emphasis on touch and voice control. Besides the M-specific graphics, the system also now features a new way of operating the automatic climate control: the temperature and ventilation settings as well as the seat heating can be controlled either by touch using a special menu option in the lower area of the control display or by voice command.
Setup button for customising vehicle configuration. The M-specific Setup button on the centre console enables direct access to the settings options for the engine, chassis, steering, braking system and M xDrive. Two individually configurable setup variants can be stored permanently, together with the preferred settings for the engine note, the DSC system, the Automatic Start/Stop function and the shift characteristics of the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission, and then retrieved using one of the two M buttons on the steering wheel.
Also fitted as standard in the new BMW M4 CS is the M Drive Professional system. This includes track-optimised functions such as the M Drift Analyser, which evaluates and records purposefully executed cornering slides, and the M Laptimer, which provides detailed data on laps of the track and allows sporty-minded drivers to share their exploits with the community. It additionally comes with M Traction Control, whose ten stages also play their part in helping drivers enjoy the pleasure of driving the car enthusiastically on the track.
Top-class options for added pleasure and comfort. The specification of the standard BMW Live Cockpit Professional includes the BMW Head-Up Display with M-specific graphics, the cloud-based BMW Maps navigation system, smartphone integration, telephony with wireless charging and a WiFi interface. The BMW Drive Recorder is available optionally.
The new BMW M4 CS additionally offers customers a select choice of comfort features and driver assistance systems. Comfort Access, an alarm system, two-zone automatic climate control, the Harman Kardon Surround Sound System, Park Distance Control, the Parking Assistant, Front Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning and the Speed Limit Info system are all included as standard, while automatic boot lid operation and the Driving Assistant system can be added as options.

Glittering movie premieres, stars gracing the red carpet and a high-performance vehicle that looks like nothing else: this is the Cannes Film Festival and recently it hosted the world premiere of the BMW XM Mystique Allure.
This one-off creation is based on the first high-performance sports car from BMW M GmbH powered by the M HYBRID drive system.
Blending progressive luxury with extravagant looks, it is inspired by British supermodel Naomi Campbell, was designed using exclusive materials from the world of haute couture and has a unique soundtrack devised in cooperation with film score composer Hans Zimmer.
The BMW XM Mystique Allure is the latest product to be made of the collaboration between BMW and Naomi Campbell. The partnership took its first steps last year with the ‘Dare to be You’ launch campaign for the BMW XM, which puts the confidence to be yourself and go your own way at centre stage.
The 77th Cannes Film Festival was the ideal choice of setting for the world premiere of the BMW XM Mystique Allure. Against the stunning backdrop of the French portside resort, Naomi Campbell presented the one-of-a-kind creation inspired by her to an audience of selected guests, before making her way in the car to the red carpet outside the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès.
“Witnessing BMW’s vision for the BMW XM Mystique Allure come to life has been truly incredible,” says Naomi.
“I feel deeply honoured to have sparked the inspiration for their first-ever high-fashion show car, which stands as a unique masterpiece in every aspect.”
This is the third year in succession that BMW has stepped up as Official Automotive Partner of the Cannes Film Festival. And it will lay on an exclusive shuttle service of more than 200 vehicles – among them the all-electric BMW i7, BMW iX and BMW i5, and the plugin-hybrid BMW XM – to give participants and guests at the event the experience of locally emission-free premium mobility.
The BMW XM Mystique Allure is the first vehicle in the brand’s history to be designed using materials from the high fashion industry.
This unusual tie-up showcases the BMW XM in a whole new light: expressive, avant-garde – and stylish and luxurious in equal measure.
Inspired by Naomi’s favourite colour, the vehicle’s exterior boasts a deeply saturated ultramarine shade, accentuated by a lustrous matte finish. A contemporary translation of high-fashion materials from luxury textile manufacturers, the design seamlessly brings the inside to the outside, featuring rich velvet and shimmering Frozen metallic sequins casting hues ranging from intense violet to deep ultramarine.
The iridescent surfaces were created with precise handcraftsmanship and a fine eye for detail. They take their cues from the eye-catching geometric forms of the BMW XM and bring a special visual richness to the car’s extrovert aesthetic.
The design of the BMW XM Mystique Allure provides a meeting point for high performance and haute couture, and paints a unique picture of progressive luxury that continues into the interior. All of the surfaces inside the car, including the M Lounge in the rear, are covered in purple velvet.
BMW IconicSounds Electric
The bold appearance is complemented by an acoustic character also very much its own. At its heart is a bespoke adaptation of the BMW IconicSounds Electric developed as part of the collaboration between BMW Group Sound Design and film score composer Hans Zimmer.
The driving track created for the Naomi Campbell-inspired one-off projects the supreme confidence of the car’s exterior design onto the soundscape of locally emission-free driving.
In the M HYBRID drive system’s all-electric operating mode, every movement of the accelerator is accompanied by an emotionally engaging sound that authentically represents the car’s outstanding performance and magnetic visual allure.
The most powerful model from BMW M GmbH.
The BMW XM is the first model since the legendary BMW M1 to be conceived solely as a standalone high-performance car from BMW M GmbH. It blends dynamic potency with innovative luxury and an enticingly extravagant design composed of muscular proportions and powerful contours. Two-piece split headlight units, Iconic Glow contour lighting for the BMW kidney grille, accent bands along the sides of the car, light-alloy wheels up to 23 inches in size and the vertically stacked and hexagonally formed pairs of exhaust tailpipes integrated into the rear apron ensure the exterior of the XM has an inimitable visual presence.
The BMW XM is also breaking new ground with its M HYBRID system, which has made the XM the first high-performance car from BMW M GmbH to feature an electrified drive system. In BMW XM Label Red form (electric power and petrol consumption – weighted, combined: 33.5 kWh/100 km and 2.0 l/100 km [141.2 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions – weighted, combined: 45 g/km (WLTP); fuel consumption with discharged battery: 12.9 l/100 km [21.9 mpg imp] as per WLTP; CO2 classes: with discharged battery G; weighted, combined B), the plug-in hybrid model – with its maximum output of 550 kW/748 hp – is also the most powerful series-produced, road-legal car yet produced by BMW M GmbH.
With its four brands BMW, MINI, Rolls-Royce and BMW Motorrad, the BMW Group is the world’s leading premium manufacturer of automobiles and motorcycles and also provides premium financial and mobility services. The BMW Group production network comprises over 30 production sites worldwide; the company has a global sales network in more than 140 countries.
In 2023, the BMW Group sold over 2.55 million passenger vehicles and more than 209,000 motorcycles worldwide. The profit before tax in the financial year 2023 was € 17.1 billion on revenues amounting to € 155.5 billion. As of 31 December 2023, the BMW Group had a workforce of 154,950 employees.
The success of the BMW Group has always been based on long-term thinking and responsible action. The company set the course for the future at an early stage and consistently makes sustainability and efficient resource management central to its strategic direction, from the supply chain through production to the end of the use phase of all products. TOYOTA has announced the UK model range and pricing for the all-new Land Cruiser. The latest generation of the legendary SUV will become available from July, with first deliveries to customers expected from September this year.
Germany’s largest motorsport event has already provided its first memorable moment: on Friday, as part of the legendary Nürburgring 24 Hours, the new Golf GTI Clubsport was presented to numerous fans. The sporty, optimised version of the classic model stands out thanks to its sharper exterior design, an enhanced interior, impressive performance data and high-end sports suspension.
A fitting way to make its debut.
The new Golf GTI Clubsport was unveiled on the Ring Boulevard at the legendary race track in the Eifel region in front of an enthusiastic crowd of motorsport fans. They were the first to get a look at the new enhanced model which, with its completely redesigned front end, now looks even more powerful and distinctive. The standard LED Plus headlights have been revamped. For the first time, the vehicle also features the illuminated VW logo at the front. A large roof spoiler at the rear ensures maximum downforce. The LED tail light clusters have also been redesigned.
Designed for performance inside and out.
The 19-inch Queenstown alloy wheels are also new. With their striking design of five oval semi-circles, they evoke the classic Detroit wheel, which was introduced for the fifth-generation Golf GTI. As a further option, the Golf GTI Clubsport can now be configured with the new 19-inch Warmenau forged wheel. With a weight of only eight kilograms per wheel rim, the forged wheels reduce the unsprung masses and thus optimise performance. The Golf GTI Clubsport’s various functions and systems are coordinated using a newly developed multifunction leather sports steering wheel and a new infotainment system. It is intuitive and makes it possible for the driver to concentrate even better on the road ahead. The new top-of-the-range GTI model also features the new IDA voice assistant with ChatGPT integration.
Impressive performance.
The new Golf GTI Clubsport is as impressive inside as out: the GTI turbocharged engine (EA888 LK3 evo4) delivers a torque of 400 Nm and an output of 221 kW (300 PS), which are brought to the road via an electronically controlled front differential lock. The DCC adaptive chassis control is available as optional equipment.
Another highlight of the Golf GTI Clubsport is the exclusive Special driving profile. This matches systems relevant for driving dynamics to the special track characteristics of the Nürburgring – in order to compensate for the undulations typical of the Nordschleife, maximum performance is achieved by means of a specific vertical setup of the DCC adaptive chassis control and a modified lateral dynamics setup of the standard Vehicle Dynamics Manager. The Golf GTI Clubsport accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds; the top speed of this most powerful of GTIs is electronically limited to 250 km/h. However, this limit can be lifted with the Race package – which raises the top speed to 267 km/h.
