Putting car dealers in front of car buyers NATIONALLY

T

he UK new car market grew by 9.5% in November to reach 156,525 units, according to the latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

In the market’s best November for four years, registrations almost returned to pre-pandemic levels, down just 96 units (-0.1%) on 2019.

Growth was driven entirely by fleets investing in the latest vehicles, with registrations rising 25.4% to account for 93,049 units and 59.4% of the market. Private demand was depressed, dropping -5.9% to 60,506 registrations, while business uptake fell -32.7% to 2970 units. Year to date, however, the overall market remains up 18.6% at 1.762 million units, with a return to growth in the corporate market fuelling a recovery that has been underway for 16 months.

Electrified vehicle uptake is also on the rise with BEV registrations up for the 42nd month in a row – driven predominantly by company buyers.

Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive said; “Britain’s new car market continues to recover, fuelled by fleets investing in the latest and greenest new vehicles. With car makers gearing up to meet their responsibilities under new market legislation, and COP28 currently underway, now is the time to take sensible steps that will multiply that economic growth and minimise carbon emissions. Private EV buyers need incentives in line with those that have so successfully driven business uptake – and workable trade rules that promote rather than penalise the transition”.

Overall calculations suggest that 2024 will be a period of stabilisation in the automotive sector generally, followed by a notable rise in registrations in successive years – onward and upward.

New Vehicle Solutions Marks a Milestone

S

eptember 5th, 2013, marked the inception of what would soon become a prominent player in the new van market sector – New Vehicle Solutions (NVS). Founded by Martin Nixon and Bryn Lee Evans, NVS opened its doors with a vision to revolutionise the vehicle supply industry in the UK. The journey began in a modest office in Landow near Cowbridge, where Nixon and Evans, leveraging their combined 35 years of experience in the motor trade and finance, laid the foundation for a remarkable venture.

In just a few months, NVS secured a multi-million-pound contract to supply Stanley Black and Decker/Dewalt with a specially designed Tool Van, earning them recognition at the Birmingham NEC Motorshow. Their unique approach to vehicle customisation set them apart and laid the groundwork for their ascent in the industry.

As demand surged, NVS quickly outgrew its initial premises.

In less than a year, with an expanded team, they moved to larger offices at Chapel Barns in Merthyr Mawr Bridgend. With a team of eight, they were soon supplying over 1000 new vans annually, showcasing their rapid growth and market influence.

While delivering brand-new vehicles at significant savings remained a core focus, NVS was equally committed to enhancing the customer experience. This dedication paid off, as satisfied customers returned repeatedly.

However, the influx of return customers posed a challenge – the desire to part exchange their existing vehicles. Operating from an office, NVS had to trade these vehicles at wholesale prices to forecourt dealers.

In a significant development in 2019, NVS opened a 26000 sq ft vehicle showroom and forecourt in Bridgend. This strategic move allowed them to retail their part-exchanged vehicles, offering customers not only new and pre-registered vehicles but also a range of used commercial vehicles with a known history, all at competitive prices.

This expansion also empowered NVS to provide better part exchange deals, as they could now retail the vehicles directly, eliminating the need for wholesale trade-ins. With a keen eye on the local market, they aimed to cater not only to businesses but also to individual customers seeking savings on their next new car.

Over the years, NVS expanded its team and ventured into the 25

car department, offering free delivery on any make or model.

Their commitment to customer satisfaction led to the recent launch of a new, user-friendly website, receiving accolades for its design and information accessibility.

Celebrating their 10-year milestone, NVS treated their entire team to a weekend in Amsterdam, emphasising their dedication to employee well-being. Looking ahead to 2024, NVS plans further growth, with an expanded car department, increased on-site vehicle inventory, and a focus on immediate delivery with full fleet discounts.
