WELCOME FROM MA

On behalf of Motorcycling Australia (MA), I extend a warm welcome to all fans, riders and officials to the 2024 Penrite ProMX Championship presented by AMX Superstores.

After a brilliant 2023, with all classes going down to the wire at the season finale in Coolum, the Penrite ProMX Championship will return with eight rounds of highstakes action that will take riders and fans on a journey across Australia’s finest motocross venues.

I’d also like to welcome the new additions to the calendar in 2024: Horsham, Murray Bridge and MX Farm Queensland.

It’s easy to see why the ProMX championship continues to be a showcase of the best of Australian motocross. It starts with the top riders competing in the Thor MX1 class to the emerging talent in the Pirelli MX2 class, the next generation of Australian motocross talent in the Maxxis MX3 class, and the ever-expanding Ezilift MXW women’s class.

And let’s not forget the Veterans, MX85 (World Junior Motocross Championship qualifying) and KTM MX 65 FUTURES classes.

Fans won’t miss a moment of the action with the exclusive television coverage through SBS, SBS On Demand, Stan Sport, and the ProMX TV livestream. I would like to extend my gratitude to all those involved in this championship, including the volunteers, officials, staff, riders, teams, and sponsors, for their unwavering support and hard work.

It takes a community to make a championship, and I thank you all for coming together to make the 2024 Penrite ProMX Championship presented by AMX Superstores a success.

WELCOME FROM AMX

AMX Superstores is proud to continue our partnership with the 2024 Australian ProMX Championship. We extend a warm welcome to all, spectators, riders, race teams and industry supporters.

We are looking forward to another wonderful year of racing ahead, as we know you all are, after an outstanding 2023 season which saw the best racing in recent memory.

This is our fourth year as the ‘presented by’ partner for ProMX, and we are thrilled to be onboard again this year.

For AMX, we’ve always lived and breathed motocross. From our beginnings in 2008 selling clearance motocross gear out of a shed in Bayswater, Victoria, to today with 33 stores across five states and an ever-growing team, motocross is in our blood. The sport provides the opportunity for everyone to enjoy motocross, from spectators to riders to industry sponsors like us, we just love getting involved and having some fun.

We also see our support of ProMX as a small contribution to ensure motocross stays where it should be: a well-managed sport viewed by as

many spectators as possible who have a quality experience, whether at the track or watching the livestream or on free-to-air television through SBS. We know our sport is one of the most spectacular, challenging and extreme sports out there today and we want it to grow for the benefit of teams, riders and spectators alike.

We’ll be at all rounds, so come and talk to our team about anything motocross. We enjoy getting along to these events; it’s what being involved in this industry is all about and we’re privileged to be here to support racing and just talk bikes for a weekend!

And by the way, if you pass by our trade stand, you can pick yourself up some goodies at special ProMX pricing as well!

From team AMX to you, we hope you enjoy 2024 season – now let’s go racing!

WELCOME TO BASS COAST

We are excited and honoured, as always, to host the nation’s premier motocross championship and can’t wait to see all the riders and fans, and welcome everyone to our beautiful region.

A warm welcome to Bass Coast and to the Penrite ProMX Championship in Bass Coast! We are thrilled to again welcome you all back to this new season presented by AMX Superstores at the Wonthaggi Motocross Track.

THE CHAMPIONS OF 2023

The start of a new Penrite ProMX Championship presented by AMX Superstores season is always exciting, but to set the scene on 2024 let’s look back at what transpired in the final round of last year as all the titles went down to the wire at the historic –and retiring – Coolum Pines venue.

THOR MX1

Brisbane Motorcycles Yamaha rider Dean Ferris added Thor MX1 championship number four to his ever-growing trophy collection, ahead of Boost Mobile Honda’s Jed Beaton and KTM Racing Team’s Kirk Gibbs.

As the gates dropped for the opening moto of the day, it was Gibbs who launched out of the gates before sand specialist Kyle Webster (Boost Mobile Honda Racing ) made the move into the lead and checked out.

Ferris would slice his way through the field following a top 10 start, making his way into second position by race’s end, and setting himself up nicely entering moto two. Beaton finished the race in third, 22 seconds behind Ferris, while CDR Yamaha Monster Energy’s Aaron Tanti finished in fourth place ahead of Gibbs.

The final moto of the year was where the premier championship would be determined, as the ultra-rough Coolum circuit provided the perfect

battleground for the duel. Twenty-five minutes plus one lap were the terms for the decider, and Beaton answered the call by launching out of the gates with moto one winner Webster in tow from Ferris. Webster made the move on his teammate early in the piece, before Beaton dropped the No. 14 CRF450R – which was all the invitation Ferris

needed to seal the championship, marking a remarkable five years – and multiple retirements –since he won his last in 2018.

Webster took the moto win to capture a perfect 1-1 scorecard for the finale, while Ferris and Gibbs were second and third overall.

The 2023 Thor MX1 championship was one for the history books, as a multitude of contenders fought for the coveted title.

10

PIRELLI MX2

THE CHAMPIONS OF 2023

Terrafirma Honda Racing’s Wilson Todd successfully defended his Pirelli MX2 crown in commanding fashion, wrapping up the title in the opening moto at Coolum.

Circling the opening lap of moto one inside the top 10, Todd held a couple of positions between he and championship rival Nathan Crawford (KTM Racing

Team), as the duo made passes before Crawford found himself on the rear wheel of Todd. Realising the situation, the defending champion put the hammer down, charging his way through the field and making the move on teammate Brodie Connolly (Polyflor Honda) for the lead.

Crawford shadowed Todd through the pack and would wind up second – and therefore concede a 30-point margin to Todd, with only 25 remaining. Connolly finished the moto in third, while Kayden

Minear (KTM Racing Team) and a fast-starting Noah Ferguson (GASGAS Racing Team) finished fifth.

With the pressure of the title lifted, Todd charged out of the gates in moto two to secure the lead by the first lap, and would disappear off into the distance to notch a perfect 1-1 scorecard for the final round.

Second place was Ferguson, for third overall in the round. Crawford finished third in the moto, which secured him second overall for the round, while Yamalube Yamaha Racing’s Jayce Cosford finished the moto in fourth and Caleb Ward rounded out the top five.

MAXXIS MX3

The MAXXIS MX3 title was wrapped up by GASGASsupported youngster Byron Dennis in a nerveless performance.

Racing into the lead during the opening moto of the day, Dennis appeared as though he would wrap the title up a moto early before a fall at the midway mark relegated him to second position. Series rival Jack Mather (Raceline Berry Sweet Husqvarna Racing) made the move into the lead, capturing the win and pushing the quest for the championship into the second moto. Dennis recovered to finish second place, with KTM rider Deacon Paice finishing third.

11

THE CHAMPIONS OF 2023

The stage was set for a showdown as the championship came down to the very last moto of 2023, and Dennis proved that he was up for the challenge by winning the final moto by over 17 seconds.

Second place on the day and in the series was Mather, who put up a valiant performance as he entered the final round under the weather, while GYTR Yamaha Junior Racing youngster Seth Burchell completed the round podium. Teammate Jake Cannon was third in the standings after a standout year.

EZILIFT MXW

Yamalube Yamaha Racing’s Charli Cannon put together a picture-perfect weekend at Coolum to defend her EZILIFT MXW championship, her victory in the second moto by a staggering 41 seconds putting an exclamation mark on another stellar season.

During the year, the dominant Queenslander won all but one moto as she won the championship from Honda Racing’s Emma Milesevic and Madison Brown (Honda).

Second place in the final moto and third for the round was Honda Racing’s Tahlia O’Hare, while Empire Kawasaki’s Taylah McCutcheon finished the moto in third place, ending up second overall. Taylor Thompson (GASGAS) and Brown rounded out the top five at Coolum.

MX2 CLASS

In 2024 the ProMX Championship will welcome back the hotly contested Pirelli MX2 class, a stepping stone for young riders on the path to professional racing.

This class allows riders as young as 15 to compete on machines ranging from 122 to 250cc, the Pirelli MX2 class is the perfect place for young talent to showcase their skills and make their mark.

With the top two riders form 2023, Wilson Todd and Nathan Crawford, moving up to MX1, the jockeying to fill the void is expected to be fierce.

The reigning No. 3, Brodie Connolly (Honda), is an obvious candidate, as well as Rhys Budd (Husqvarna), Noah Feguson (Honda), Kayden Minear (KTM), Liam Andrews (GASGAS), and some star power moving up from MX3 in the shape of Byron Dennis (GASGAS) and Jack Mather (Husqvarna).

Despite being the smaller bore class, the Pirelli MX2 category delivers some of the most thrilling racing in the championship as young riders battle to impress the manufacturers and build their futures in the sport. Get ready for a season full of exciting and competitive racing!

MXW CLASS

The EZILIFT MXW is the premier women’s motocross competition in Australia. With participants who are at least 15 years old and riding on machines of 125cc or higher, the MXW class has produced many talented champions who have gone on to international fame, including Charli Cannon, Meghan Rutledge, Maddy Brown, Emma Milesevic and Jess Moore.

The 2024 MXW class promises to be highly competitive, with the return of reigning champion Cannon – but now on a Honda – as well as the likes of Milesevic (Honda), Tahlia O’Hare (KTM) and Taylor Thompson (Husqvarna).

Danielle McDonald (Yamaha) also joins the championship after dominating the junior motocross and enduro ranks in 2023.

This year’s competition is set to be even more exciting, with the addition of enhanced training opportunities via the MXW Track Talk program set to take place at each MXW round. This elite training opportunity will benefit all riders, especially those who are competing in the top class for the first time.
