s the hotchpotch fleet of vehicles cruises up the Dubai Al Ain Road, with luxury coaches breezing past convoys of Uber drivers and gleaming 4x4s, it is one of the strangest migrations out of the city that Dubai ever sees.
But, then, the Emirates Dubai 7s is no ordinary event. It is not only an annual glimpse (bar last year, thanks Covid) of top-class sport at its best, but also a multicultural, multifaceted festival that brings together the whole of the UAE and beyond.
From the oval-ball fanatics to the fancy dress-clad crews; from networking banking execs to awestruck young families, the 7s is simply unique, and guaranteed the best festival atmosphere around.
From December 2 to 4, all are welcome at The Sevens Stadium for a 72hour extravaganza. Here’s why you really want to be there…

NEW TO 7S Cricket
New to The Emirates Dubai 7s, cricket 7s comes to the party, taking place on worldclass ovals at The Sevens Stadium.

At the heart of the Emirates Dubai 7s is the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, and this year we welcome the return of some of the very best male and female players from around the world to Dubai. For the men’s tournament, 12 international teams will compete: Australia, Argentina, Japan, Ireland, Kenya, Fiji, USA, France, Spain, Canada, 2019 champs South Africa and team GB. Meanwhile, the women’s tournament features Brazil, Australia, Russia, Ireland, Fiji, France, Canada, GB, Spain and USA.

Rugby
Away from the international tournament, there’s the Dubai 7s invitational tournament, featuring GCC divisions, vets rugby 10s, social rugby 7s and youth matches.

Netball
Netball is a huge part of the festival, with social, open and youth divisions from teams around the world battling it out on court. This year, expect its own entertainment and music courtside.
THREE STAGES HOSTING MASSIVE MUSICAL TALENT AT EMIRATES DUBAI 7S
NEW TO 7S Beats on Two

Location: Pitch 2 Introducing the festival’s new experience, Beats on Two overlooks the action on Pitch 2, bringing big tunes, top food and drink, and live entertainment in a new Balearic-style experience. You’ll find a dedicated day bar serving drinks and tacos, and former England rugby legend James Haskell DJing sets on Friday and Saturday.

Frequency on 8 stage
Location: Pitch 8 Organisers say that Frequency on 8 will be a ‘visual and audio experience like never seen before in this desert’. Headlining this year’s Emirates Dubai 7s Festival on Frequency on 8 on Friday December 3 are the chart-topping, Grammy-nominated, banger-playing, crowd-pleasing duo, Disclosure, dropping some of their biggest hits such as Latch, White Noise and Know Your Worth.
Rugby Rocks
Location: Heineken Tavern The original rocking tent at the 7s returns with live music all weekend, headlined by the ultimate rock tribute back Red Not Chili Peppers flying in from Los Angeles on Saturday night to perform after the final whistle of the rugby.


The Dubai 7s is not just for grown-ups. There are plenty of activities and games for youngsters too
Let them get lost in a huge inflatable maze, race their pals at the go-kart track or enjoy a movie at the outdoor movie theatre.

Budding farmers get to help out with a range of chores at the Mini Organic Farm. They’ll collect eggs, feed animals and plant crops, all while learning about where food really comes from.

For the really little ones, there’s a dedicated soft play area with ball pits, cushioned climbing frames and more.

6There’s a crèche for parents who want to leave their kids for a while so you can concentrate on the rugby.

5Look out for the Zurich Sustainability Zone, where kids get to roll up their little sleeves and help recycle some rubbish, earning them a Planet Hero T-shirt for their hard work.
