As we enter February, I am incredibly proud to present to you our much-anticipated - The Power issue, a celebration of the visionaries and trailblazers shaping the landscape of the A+D industry. This edition takes you on a journey through the remarkable minds and creative forces defining the future of opulence and aesthetics. Within this issue, you will see a selection of individuals and entities who are at the forefront of shaping the industry and setting standards of excellence in the region. Our Power List showcases the architects, interior designers, product designers, firms and galleries who, through their innovation, dedication, and commitment have pushed the boundaries of design. From ground-breaking residential spaces that seamlessly blend technology with timeless elegance to awe-inspiring public structures that serve as testaments to architectural ingenuity, each honouree on our Power List has left an indelible mark on the world of design last year. Impact Acoustic has introduced a new material for sound absorption WORDS – SUHA SABITH
I
mpact Acoustic has introduced ARCHISONIC Cotton, a completely new solution made in Italy from waste materials. The highperformance acoustic absorber can also be returned to the production process, making the material completely circular. Available in a range of 24 natural colours, it not only absorbs sound, but also adds a natural aesthetic to any room. Circularity is a concept that has gained traction in recent years and refers to the idea of including the end-of-life of a product in its design process. As a result, a product can go back to the production line and be fully reused through a series of processes that are inherently restorative and regenerative. The aim is to eliminate waste and pollution, creating a closed-loop system in which resources are used efficiently and sustainably. ARCHISONIC® Cotton embodies this concept by using only sustainable materials in its production process. The main component of the material is cellulose derived from cotton linters, a by-product of the cotton industry that would otherwise be discarded. The material is completely reusable, with 100% of the sound absorbers able to be returned to the production process at the end of their life cycle. This not only reduces waste, but also ensures that resources are used efficiently, and that the product can be used indefinitely by simply reshaping and adding no more than water with-

out degrading the quality of the materials. The production process is also designed to be circular, recycling and reusing water. The range of 24 colours has been obtained using natural earth pigments. These colours match the existing ARCHISONIC Felt, a collection that has been carefully curated by the trend scouts at Colour Hive and which is based on upcycled PET. This attention to detail ensures that the product not only meets the functional requirements of sound absorption, but also offers a beautiful and natural aesthetic that is in line with current design trends.
The material is handmade in Italy, combined with Swiss engineering to ensure that each tile meets the highest standards of quality and beauty. In addition, ARCHISONIC Cotton can absorb up to 60% of sound, making it a highly effective acoustic absorber. It has been designed to meet the most demanding professional requirements, making it a popular choice for a wide range of applications. Innovative and sustainable, ARCHISONIC Cotton embodies the concept of circularity while offering a restorative and regenerative solution to the challenge of sound absorption.

ustom No.9, Dubai’s bespoke homegrown furniture and interiors brand, has announced the launch of its highly anticipated collection, Nana’s Atelier. This marks a significant milestone as it is the company’s first-ever collection with a distinct name and campaign. Nana’s Atelier draws inspiration from the intricate feminine details found in Nana’s living room, evoking a sense of nostalgia reminiscent of 1950s and ’60s aesthetics. The collection pays homage to the warmth and familiarity of a bygone era, combining vintage charm with
a refined modern twist. Custom No.9 is a made-to-order furniture brand founded by Amy Durnford, with a vision to bring a new realm of customised furniture to the UAE market. Established in 2019, the brand was born from a desire to introduce a more creative approach to curating furniture for the home, by putting the customer in the designer’s seat. Nana’s Atelier is a celebration of the past, with every piece thoughtfully curated to reflect the essence of a cosy and comfortable living room at Nana’s house. The colour palette transcends traditional neutrals, embracing warm tones such as blush roses, dark sage, leafy greens and sunrise hues. The fabric selections aim to replicate the comfort of ‘grandpa’s jumper’, offering a unique tactile experience. The collection introduces eclectic shapes, waves and scallops to add texture, bringing a Slim Aarons vibe to each piece. The furniture is named after famous and infamous socialites and fashion photographers, adding a touch of glamour and history to the designs.

AlUla Arts Festival Design Space AlUla, the first permanent gallery space dedicated to showcasing design initiatives across AlUla, to open in February 2024 WORDS – SUHA SABITH

ebruary 2024 will mark the opening of Design Space AlUla, a focal point for showcasing AlUla’s wide ranging design initiatives contributing to the vision for AlUla. Located in the AlJadidah Arts District, Design Space AlUla provides exhibition, workshop and archive space, and is designed to foster collaboration among design professionals, students, and design enthusiasts, whilst strengthening AlUla’s legacy across the cultural sphere as a catalyst for creative inspiration and design. It will open with its inaugural exhibition Mawrid: Celebrating Inspired Design. Design Space AlUla is a contemporary building made of corten steel, glass and polished concrete. The architecture, designed by

Giò Forma Studio, is a homage to the breezeblock used widely across buildings in the surrounding AlJadidah Arts District. Shaped around a plaza, the luminous courtyard design is complemented by the exposed geometrical brickwork, taking the form of an intricate lattice façade, bringing further light and natural ventilation throughout the building. The inaugural exhibition, Mawrid: Celebrating Inspired Design, will introduce the design thinking process behind 10 recent AlUla-inspired designs across design, architecture and urban planning. It will be the first in an ongoing exhibition programme, launching on 15 February 2024 until 1 June 2024. Other exhibitors include finalists from the second edition of AlUla Design Award Imane Mellah, Teeb, Sara Kanoo and Shaddah Studio, and representation from the first edition of the AlUla Design Residency. The residency is a fivemonth programme in AlUla that brings together designers and experts on-site to work across
multiple disciplines such as infrastructure development and architectural design, exploring public realm interventions and urban furniture, sustainability and local building materials. The five design practices engaged in the residency are: bahraini – danish from Bahrain and Denmark, Hall Haus from France, Studio Leo Orta from France, Studio Raw Material from India, and Leen Ajlan from Saudi Arabia. In time, these projects will enter the Design Space AlUla archive which will serve as a growing source of design inspiration as well as a living compendium of local design initiatives. The workshop and archive will also host aspiring designers in AlUla’s resident community who want to participate in the creative space. Sara Ghani, Curator, Design Space AlUla said, “Design Space AlUla commits to celebrating AlUla’s natural history, its cultural heritage, and vernacular materials - inspiring sustainable futures that are rooted in place. Our ambition is to fuel the design economy,

provide resources to designers to explore and experiment, and be a place for visitors to research, explore and connect with the processes behind AlUla’s design journey.” The launch programme, taking place between 15 - 17 February 2024, will include keynote presentations, masterclasses, workshops, panel discussions and design tours. Set out as a series of intimate and lively discussions with maximum opportunity for interaction with the audience, the programme will reflect Design Space AlUla’s focus as a point of knowledge exchange on mindful innovation, heritage preservation, contextual materiality and integrated urban planning. AlUla Arts Festival is a celebration of contemporary visual and public art, design, curated cinema, art tours and artist residencies. The opening of Design Space AlUla will complement the Festival programme by giving the festival’s visitors and design enthusiasts in particular, another reason to visit AlUla.

t the centre of Art Dubai’s not-forprofit programme is Art Dubai Commissions, a platform that invites artists to produce site-specific works, as a means to support artistic production by local and international artists and further enhance the cultural landscape. In 2024, Art Dubai Commissions will feature a series of new performances, films and activations focusing on topics of hope, community and the power of art to help us navigate challenging times. Complementing Art Dubai’s Bawwaba gallery section, and curated by Emiliano Valdes, participating artists hail from the Global South, and will explore various aspects of the healing process, creating
spaces for contemplation and introspection, socially oriented practices that engage with local communities as well as creating nurturing and liberating experiences. “In my view, art has the potential to lead to a deeper understanding of the self and the world. With the theme “Sanación / Healing”, I aim to foreground artistic expressions at Bawwaba that look at art as a space for reflection and healing, connecting us to a broader social purpose and a channel towards change. The underlying concept is that the journey toward societal and global improvement starts from within. Understanding the self can create connections with others, society and the universe at large. The exhibition will highlight artists from the Global South, but also narratives of traditional craftsmanship, folklore and rituals presented across various artistic mediums that recuperate organic and ancestral ways of relating to the world. They visualise how people continue to make sense of the world and our role in it, especially during times of spiritual, communal and political challenges.” – Emiliano Valdés, Curator of Bawwaba 2024. This year’s event will be taking place at Madinat Jumeirah between March 1 and 3 with previews being held on February 28 and 29. The event will host almost two dozen local galleries, a record number.

nto the Space is an installation art space focused on expressions of Japanese beauty. Japanese dance performances were held at this location and, both before and after the performances, audiences were invited on stage to experience the installation. In “Sakuteiki - Visions of the Japanese Garden” written in the Heian period (794-1185), it is said that the creation of space begins with “setting a stone,” by placing an object in an empty space. Also, Ikenobo Sen'o, a master of Japanese flower arranging in the early modern period, once said: “With a spray of flowers, a bit of water, one evokes the vastness of rivers and mountains.” A single object is used to evoke a vast landscape that does not actually exist in that location. When an object is placed in a space, a place is naturally created around it: a vast landscape evoked by a single organic form object. The belief is that a space created in this way is the ideal place that humans unconsciously seek. Japan is an island nation that experiences a great deal of humidity. Throughout the year, various cloud formations flow through the sky. In Japan, clouds have been an important element of scenery since ancient times and have been written about in numerous poems. Fascinated by the beautiful, large, swirling holes that sometimes appear in those flowing clouds, the designer attempted to recreate them. Thin boards tilted in various directions catch the light and create shadows, and those shadows pile up irregularly to create darker shadows, indicating the volume of the clouds. It is a single organic form object and, around it, a blank space is created that invites people in. Visitors look up and face one being, like a cloud swirling as though a great wave. One by one, hundreds of thin boards are drawn in 3D space by the designer, and finely adjusted to a structurally balanced position by cutting-edge computational design to form a single object. Fixed to the ceiling are ten steel mesh grid panels, 800 mm wide by 1600 mm long, from which countless thin threads hang down regularly along the grid. Each thin board, just 3 mm thick, is balanced in the air with three points pierced by its threads, and each board rests in the air in a defined shape. The thin boards are made of 100% virgin pulp material, which is also used in art storage boxes for strength and durability. This object can be deployed in various spaces, creating different sceneries around it, depending on where it is placed. It has already been exhibited in two locations, and two more locations are being proposed. This way of thinking about space creation can be applied to the design of any space. This work is an attempt to express the Japanese aesthetic sense of finding beauty in a single component of nature, such as a single flower, and then creating a space using such an organically shaped object.

ocated on the grounds of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bayn Coffee is nestled between an oasis of palms and sits on the grounds of Qasr Al Muwaiji in Al Ain. Situated on a historically and culturally significant landmark, the coffee bar draws on the history and cultural richness of its surroundings. Qasr Al Muwaiji is the birthplace of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the former Ruler of Abu Dhabi and President of the U.A.E, and represents a fine example of early 20th century mudbrick architecture dating back to 1897. To maintain the historical integrity and not take away from the grandeur and importance of the fort, we had to think of ways to seamlessly integrate a new structure as part of the surrounding landscape. Drawing inspiration from the historical site and the contemporary exhibition within the fort, this project redefines the intersection of modern architecture and historical context as well as the interplay between reality and
reflection – where boundaries blur, and the reflections become a living kaleidoscope of nature and design. Pulling in elements from the adjacent museum and the success of its structural fabrication, we carried through the same essence of modern architecture by elevating the structure above ground whilst attempting to keep it open and transparent. This necessitates a discrete approach to the design of the structural support. The structure itself is merely a double skinned reflective glass box sitting in between two palm trees. Hence the name ‘Bayn’ which literally translates to ‘the in between’ in Arabic. The in between of history and modernity, desert and oasis, reflections and reality, indoor and outdoor – all equating to a harmonious blend of human ingenuity and nature’s splendour. Our aim was to minimize the visible elements that might detract from the beauty of the surroundings and highlight at best the untouched palms that stand tall within the space.

Encasing the barks as if to preserve the longevity and aging process of the palms. The design is about artful restraint and making room for a sensory experience – the echoes of history, the rustle and shadow casts of palm fronds, and the gentle murmur of the Falaj, an ancient Arab irrigation system. Considering that the location of the project came with a high level of restrictions in the preservation of the site, and it being Styled Habitat’s first architectural scope let alone first F&B, we had the privilege to work with young Emirati entrepreneurs, Mohamed & Salem Al Merri. With a true passion for his culture and discerning eye for design, together we managed to transform this endeavor into a symbol of cultural appreciation. Despite the constraints posed by the site and zoning limitations, Bayn Coffee embraces flexibility and maximizes every inch of space. The design reflects a conscientious effort to

ensure every component and material serves a dual purpose, a testament to our belief that constraints often serve as the catalyst for innovation. As one approaches Bayn Coffee, the extensive and reflective glass facade of the structure offers an exceptional vantage point to behold the breadth of the landscape, underscoring our dedication to highlighting the beauty of the fort and its surroundings and at the same time enhancing the experience of visitors. Once inside, the floor-to-ceiling windows dissolve the boundary by serving as an extension of the view - seamlessly blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces. This itself establishes an authentic connection to the natural world, fostering a sense of awe and reverence. Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a gently sloping clay-plastered ceiling focusing on the coffee bar that sits center stage of the space to highlight the coffee making process.
The eye is imminently drawn towards the clay plastered wall that lays as the main backdrop to the bronze patina coffee bar. Guests are greeted with meticulously curated furniture pieces that exemplify understated elegance. The furniture is reminiscent of traditional low seating, adding a nostalgic cue to the experience while the natural tones of the eclectic modern furniture compliments the warm palette of the space. We take great pride in the clarity between our chosen materials whether it be glass, plaster, or steel as each element stands true to its character, allowing the landscape to shine and the architecture to recede. The material junctions are deliberate and clean, reflecting a commitment to showcasing the raw, honest beauty of these materials. Their ability to weather and patina with time underscores our focus on durability as a form of sustainability. The selection of material tonality and treatment of surfaces epitomize the surrounding abundant desert sand, allowing the space to remain grounded in its location’s origins while creating a sense of space. To further elevate the visitor experience, the building is oriented towards the west, allowing guests to witness the full desert sunset, while the glass walls capture the glinting reflections of the landscape, creating an ever-changing play of shadows and light throughout the day. The transparent, reflective nature of the building allows light to penetrate deep into the space, transforming it into a poetic symphony of illumination that evolves from dawn to dusk. The ambiance becomes even more profound as the surrounding palm trees sway in response to nature’s rhythm, especially on a rainy day. As the sun sets behind the historical fort, and the desert takes on its mesmerizing hues, Bayn Coffee at Qasr Al Muwaiji stands as a testament to design that beautifully weaves together history, nature, and contemporary sophistication in an architectural piece that honours the past while embraces the future.

oli by SHI tells a tale as old as time, weaving traditional Chinese architecture with modern extravagance. The name “Moli” meaning “jasmine” in Chinese, carries profound symbolism associated with purity, grace, and elegance, immersing visitors in a feeling of opulence and sophistication right from arrival. Upon entering the restaurant, guests encounter traditional architectural elements reminiscent of a Chinese temple. Greeted by two guardian lion statues right at the reception, the statues set the tone for the immersive
cultural experience that awaits. legacy of Chinese culture. Above, the ceiling features prominently hanging light features shaped in jasmine flowers, providing gentle and ambient lighting, further emphasising the essence of Moli. A metallic bead curtain flows into the space, merging the walls with the ceiling, gracefully mimicking the fluid movements of a dragon, as it weaves through the restaurant space and around the columns, starting from the entrance toward the end and grinding the guest gracefully through the space. In crafting the design concept, careful consideration was given to the selection of furniture; each piece was crafted to the small. The chosen furniture complements but actively implicates and portrays the underlying concept, seamlessly blending functionality with the rich cultural narrative. The seating arrangements and furniture are expertly crafted with a nod to traditional Chinese woodworking techniques. They are adorned with jacquard velvet fabric that presents an interpretation midway between a figurative depiction of magical tigers and the Chinese mythological realms.

The name 1508 London is a reference to the year in which the Pope commissioned the then-unknown Michelangelo to paint the Sistine Chapel’s ceiling after seeing his perfect, freehand circle. The “Michelangelo moment” for 1508 London was winning the commission to transform Chelsea Barracks – the former British Army barracks in London’s Westminster that dates back to 1860 – into luxury apartments. It was the project that catapulted the studio onto the global stage. 1508 London won the interior design of the project - Baccarat Hotel and Residences Dubai, an exclusive premium-class project set to open in the heart of Downtown Dubai.

Agata Kurzela Agata Kurzela had some big names added to her existing illustrious portfolio. Her team led the design of the Abu Dhabi Government Office which was awarded – Interior Design – Office, at the identity Design Awards 2023. Her design – Game of Life, was also featured at Downtown Design 2023. The floor piece by Agata Kurzela, draws inspiration from the patterns of Sadu, a traditional weaving technique from the UAE. The design is also informed by a cellular automaton algorithm developed by mathematician John Horton Conway in 1970, which is known as Conway’s Game of Life.

A boutique design studio with offices in Dubai and London, ANARCHITECT has made its mark in the Middle East through its context-driven, contemporary approach. One of its recent projects – The Serai Wing of the Chedi Al Bait hotel in Sharjah takes a minimalistic approach that is both luxurious and not trite. The design firm is designing projects across the continents, such as an African urban contemporary residence in Kampala, Uganda, and a reimagined bohemian 1926 Private House in Belgrade, Serbia.
Asif Khan
A name that stood out during EXPO 2020, Dubai (which is an accomplishment in itself), Asif Khan had set up his own studio almost two decades ago. The architect/designer is competing and winning projects for cultural giants where curation and deep thought are just as much part of the design as drawing up plans and programmes. The practice’s reworking of Smithfield Market for the Museum of London is due to complete in 2026 and it won the competition for the renewal of the Barbican Arts Centre last year. The firm was also involved in the design of the 21m-high carbon fibre gates for Dubai Expo 2020. It has a museum and space centre in the Middle East and projects in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Pallavi Dean Pallavi Dean has had an interesting year with the completion of some stunning projects such as Sprinklr office and Jaipur Rugs Showroom. It was Jaipur Rugs first showroom in the Middle East, located in the creative district of Aserkal, in one of the former industrial area’s previously abandoned warehouses. Roar’s design for the space pays homage to the architecture of Jaipur, the rug manufacturer’s home city, and in particular its famous stepwells – reservoirs built with staggered terraces and dizzying sets of stairs all the way down into their depths.
Paul Nulty Paul Nulty founded Nulty in 2011. Sumaya Dabbagh Led by Saudi architect Sumaya Dabbagh, Dabbagh Architects made waves in the international architecture scene with the design of the Gargash Mosque in Dubai, which reinterprets the typology of a traditional mosque architecture with contemporary interventions. The firm has also been invited to participate in a competition for a grand mosque in Saudi Arabia in addition to other projects in the kingdom. The architect’s EARTH TO EARTH installation at Sharjah Architecture Triennial is a curved wall structure that reflects the fundamental circularity and duality of a material which embodies both solidity and fluidity.
Winner of the 1995 Pritzker Prize, Tadao Ando needs no introduction. Ando's body of work is known for the creative use of natural light and for structures that follow natural forms of the landscape, rather than disturbing the landscape by making it conform to the constructed space of a building. Recently the Japanese architect unveiled plans for Armani Beach Residences at Palm Jumeirah, a luxury residential complex on the oceanfront in Dubai.

ultidisciplinary interior design firm Zooco recently completed its latest project – the Cantabrian Maritime Museum restaurant in Spain. Located on Severiano Ballesteros Street in Santander, Spain, the restaurant was conceived as part of an architectural complex that also includes the Oceanographic Centre designed by Vicente Roig Forner and Ángel Hernández Morales, built between 1975 and 1978. The original building consists of two square bodies connected by a canopy, with a concrete structure. The interior is distributed over three floors, around a central courtyard covered by a vault of paraboloid membranes. In 2003, a renovation and an extension were carried

out which included the extension of the west façade and the roof of the terrace with a pyramidal aluminium structure, thus altering the initial conception of the building. The project provides the museum with a new space on the second floor to house its restaurant and terrace in. To accomplish this, the project involved the creation of a new volume that provides a solution to the pathologies present in the roof and façade of the building. The square morphology of this volume is the result of the addition of four triangles that regularise and complete the paraboloids of the origi-

nal building, thus directing the visitor towards the interior, to the rawness of the concrete paraboloids. In a sense, the geometry becomes a recovered element, a vestige of the past and the protagonist of the interior of the restaurant. Treated as an artistic element, the triangular wooden false ceilings frame it. The exterior features a glass box that provides maximum transparency (nuanced by textiles in the form of curtains, depending on orientation) and allows expansive views of the extraordinary landscape of the Bay of Santander, lending to the feeling of being at sea.

ne of the challenges when it came to the layout of this project was to strategically integrate the sculptural works of the owner, artist and sculptor Juanma Noguera, into the project. In short, the emerging concept was an Art Gallery house. In terms of general aesthetics, the idea was to provide the entire space with an industrial atmosphere, maintaining and recovering the building's original materials. Solid brick walls were uncovered, vaulted iron-beam ceilings were respected, and areas with original hydraulic pavement were maintained.The materials used also follow the industrial premise, including concrete black iron sheet, herringbone floors of recovered wood, and

teak wood furniture to break the cold of the greys. Maximal infusion of natural light was also one of the objectives of the project. Accordingly, several skylights were opened in the ceilings, and an inner courtyard was created at the back of the house. Upon entering the house, a large living roomdining room of approximately 120 square metres emerges, with gable ceilings over six metres high at the central point. One of the challenges while designing this area was to create a cosy space, despite its amplitude and furniture pieces that were not left loose. The most notable piece is a customdesigned central structure that may be used as a dining table and, at the same time, acts as the fourth step of the staircase leading to the roof. The

top of the table is made of a herringbone parquet, similar to the one installed in the bedroom area, thus providing visual continuity. The stairs are made of bent sheet iron, and iron sheet was also used to design the furniture that integrates the kitchen, a walk-in closet at the entrance and a bookcase. A pair of niches lined with teak wood and infused with light break the obvious ‘black continuity’. At the back of the living room, in front of the windows, a closed gallery with three iron and glass doors was installed. The idea was to give this area a certain vintage feel. The original hydraulic pavement was preserved, and a set of lamps and hanging plants was installed, combining with the owner’s sculptures and antique furniture. Beyond the living room, the owner’s workshop is discovered, preserved as the owner created it. There is also a washroom with a custom-made sink produced from fire-enamelled stainless steel, which faces the window. Its integrated drain is located inside of the wall, with a tap emerging from the ceiling, and a wall featuring same patter left by the wool after the cement was spread. A large sliding glass door gives access to the suite. A dressing room, a bedroom and a bathroom area are located in the same space, with a shower and toilet overlooking the courtyard, closed with the same sliding glass. When one is open, the other remains closed. At the foot of the bed sits a freestanding bathtub, and the room is completed with the addition of custom-designed furniture. The patio provides access to the children’s rooms, separated by a shared bathroom. The two rooms connect to a loft, and the sleeping area is located on top. Both rooms feature large dressing rooms, study areas and ‘chill’ areas with sofas. The bathroom can be accessed from both bedrooms. The roof terrace was completely renovated, with synthetic outdoor decking installed along with an overflowing stainless-steel pool.

diverse range of colours, materials, weaves and textures have always made up the sumptuous Loro Piana Interiors textile palette: to ensure unbounded creativity and offer the means to indulge imagination without limits, the Maison is in perpetual pursuit of new elements, drawing on a century of expertise and continuous dialogue with clients. So, over the years, the textiles have been made available for bespoke services dedicated to throws, blankets, cushions and rugs, all in a vast range of sizes, colours and trims that can be mixed and matched in original ways. Starting this season, the classic bespoke services are joined by new opportunities for personalisation focusing on the bedroom, the table, the bath and the spa zone. The colours draw on the classic Loro Piana Interiors palette, tempered with delicate watercolour ones and enhanced by patterns that reflect the Maison’s innate style. For example, there are tablecloths, placemats, runners and napkins in linen to adorn with embroidery, openwork and contrasting edging. For the bath, waffle-weave and chenille sablé fabrics in cotton with a touch of cashmere to make them extra-soft and cosy, in new colours and stripes. For the bedroom, a wide range of sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers in organic cotton and linen, and in cotton and cashmere to go with the queen-size cashmere blanket in natural tones and edged with a choice of cashmere chevron ribbon. For the floor, the Sils rug in New Zealand wool, handwoven on looms to custom sizes in various colour combinations and three patterns. “The expansion of our bespoke services lets us create complete, inimitable interior decoration projects, spaces that say something about us

in every room with a harmonious language made up of materials, colours and elegance,” explains Francesco Pergamo, Director of the Loro Piana Interiors division. “The foundation of our collections is always the textiles, the hallmark of our excellence. For 2024, with a view towards personalisation, we’re focusing on the finest linens and cottons, and of course wherever possible a touch of cashmere, which is the essence of our DNA.” For 2024 there are also new offerings in terms of textiles themselves, targeted to complement the ample existing range. Pure cashmere is transformed into a warm-toned, cosy Tweed for exclusive upholstery; wool and linen blend broadcloths are ideal for curtains or upholstery; and hemp is combined with cotton and jute in a pleasantly nubbly textile. Cotton velvet in 23 shades completes the range. And finally, the outdoor fabrics in Trevira®, perfectly flameproof and weather-resistant, all made with high percentages of recycled fibres, in stripes, solid colours and textured surfaces. “Keeping faithful to our “spirit of service”, this year we’ve intentionally concentrated on completing the range of high-performance fabrics, which are also versatile in terms of textures and weights, size, composition and performance, while never failing to offer inimitable sensory experiences that speak volumes about us and our know-how,” Pergamo concludes.
