“We can’t wait for Sam to showcase his talents.”
From Texas with talent
Sam Bennett is a star in waiting. Earlier this year he earned an invite to the Valero Texas Open on the PGA Tour and is now set to for his DP World Tour bow at Emirates Golf Club
For further evidence of how the PGA Tour-DP World Tour alliance will play out beyond co-sanctioned events and bigname, cross-circuit appearances, meet Sam Bennett.
The Texas A&M University Senior has secured automatic qualification to January’s Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic as the top-ranked PGA TOUR University player.
Yes, we had to research the PGA Tour University Velocity Global Ranking too. For the record, it is designed to identify the best collegiate golfers based on winning, competitiveness and seasonlong performance. Developed in partnership with the World Amateur Golf Ranking, it focuses on the final two years of competition in NCAA Division-I tournaments, official PGA TOUR events and select European Tour events.
Bennett’s PGA Tour University record includes an impressive seven top-five finishes, three victories and the second-lowest season average (70.53) in Texas A&M history. He’ll join reigning Race to Dubai champion Collin Morikawa, 2017 Dubai and Masters winner Sergio Garcia and defending champion Paul Casey in the field for the $8 million Rolex Series event at Emirates Golf Club from Jan. 27-30.
“I’m thankful for the Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic, PGA TOUR University and Velocity Global for helping provide this platform as I further develop into the golfer that I want to be,” Bennett said.
Desert Classic Executive Tournament Director Simon Corkill congratulated Bennett on an “excellent year”.
“Our commitment to Sam, the best player on the PGA TOUR University Velocity Global Ranking, exemplifies our investment in supporting the promising young talent who are the future of our game, and underlines the innovative thinking we are bringing to Dubai’s legacy golf event.”
Brendan von Doehren, Executive Director of PGA TOUR University, added: “Sam is not only a great player, he will be a great representative of PGA TOUR University and college golf when he plays in Dubai. We appreciate our partnership with the Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic and can’t wait to see Sam showcase his talents on the international stage.” — kent gray
