Dear Mighty Mac Families,
Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year at Mother McAuley!
It is such a joy to get ready for another school year together and to welcome both our new and returning Mighty Macs into the building. Each new year brings fresh faces, new classes, and new opportunities, and we are grateful to walk this journey with you.
One of the big moments of this summer for our country was the World Cup. Watching those matches and hearing the stories, we saw grit, teamwork, resilience, and athletes on a global stage using their gifts with confidence and courage. We also saw that success rarely happens overnight - there are setbacks, tough losses, and moments that demand humility and growth. Every player knew they were representing something bigger than their own individual story, carrying not just their hopes but the hopes of teammates, coaches, and entire nations. That sense of shared purpose - playing for more than your own success - mirrors what we hope our Mighty Macs will embrace this year.
This fall, Mercy schools around the world will be united under the theme “Rooted in Mercy,” and we want our girls to see that their choices, voices, and gifts matter. Being “Rooted in Mercy” means letting compassion, faith, and justice shape the way we see ourselves and the world. For our girls, it’s an invitation to recognize their God-given worth and to grow as scholars, leaders, and advocates who use their strengths for others. Throughout the year, we will be asking our students: Who or what am I representing when I walk into the classroom, onto the court, or onto the stage - and how can I let Christ and Mercy guide me?
Feeling “rooted” also requires practical support: clear information, consistent communication, and a sense of what to expect in the year ahead. That is exactly what this Back-to-School guide is designed to provide. It is a map you can return to throughout the year, as you navigate schedules, expectations, and opportunities at McAuley with confidence. Inside the Back-to-School packet you will find details about schedules, academics, technology, student support, and the many ways our girls can get involved - in the classroom, in the studio, on the field, and on the stage. Please take some time to read through everything, and keep it handy as questions pop up during the school year.
There is so much to look forward to in the months ahead. It remains a privilege to partner with you in forming young women who are curious, compassionate and courageous and who use their gifts to make a difference in the lives of others. As we begin this new school year, my hope is that all of us - students, families, faculty, and staff - feel renewed in our commitment to be Rooted in Mercy in the ways we learn, lead, and care for one another.

McAuley is bell-to-bell cell phone free. Phones stay in locked lockers during the day. For urgent matters, families can contact the Main Office.

Homecoming Dance | 7:00–10:00 p.m.
The Homecoming Dance is a dance for all students. This semi-formal dance hosted by Student Government culminates our Homecoming Week activities. Tickets for the dance will be available for purchase in advance. Tickets will not be sold at the door. Students must enter the dance by 8:00 p.m. and are not permitted to leave until the end of the dance at 10:00 p.m. More information regarding the Homecoming Dance will be forthcoming in early September.

SENIOR Portraits
Root Studios has been selected as the official Senior Portrait photographer. Session brochures were sent to families in the mail and by email at the start of the summer. The last available session date offered at McAuley is September 28 - October 2.
Since Root Studios is our official school photographer, any senior who wants to be included in the yearbook must go through them. You must schedule your own appointment online and follow the school dress code as listed in the student handbook. Any questions in regards to senior portraits can be directed to Mrs. Sarah Kolkmeyer, Assistant Principal of Student Supports.

Tuition Information
Tuition for the 2026-2027 school year is $15,700, with a ten-month payment schedule of $1,570/month, beginning July 2026. For freshman students, the July payment is reduced by the $550 tuition deposit paid at the time of registration. Late payments are subject to a $40 late fee.
Fee Information
The fundraising fee of $400/family for the Cash for Christmas raffle is reflected in your account, due with the November payment.

Payments can be made to Blackbaud Tuition Management either online or by phone. For questions about your account settings, login information, or the status of a payment, contact the Blackbaud Tuition Management Help Center at 888-868-8828. Your Blackbaud Family ID is listed on all communication you receive from Blackbaud Tuition Management and on your Tuition home page. Blackbaud
Blackbaud is our school information and learning management system. Blackbaud is also the place where tuition payments are made. Blackbaud will serve as a valuable tool for you, as you navigate your daughter’s year. You can login to Blackbaud and see your daughter’s teachers and class schedule, up-to-date grades as well as assignments, and general school resources for your use. This is also where report cards will be released at the end of each semester; formal report cards are no longer mailed home.

McAuley uses Bright Arrow as a way to send text messages regarding emergency events and important reminders, including school closures. Mother McAuley General Information
To help families feel confident and prepared for the school year, the following guidelines outline key daily routines and expectations at Mother McAuley.
Attendance
Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School believes that regular attendance is an essential part of a student’s total educational experience. Consistent class attendance supports continuity in learning and academic success in McAuley’s challenging curriculum, and daily engagement cannot be replicated once missed.
• If a student is ill or must be out of school, parents/guardians must call or email the Attendance Office before 9:00 a.m. If a student anticipates an absence, a parent/guardian must call or email the Attendance Office in advance.
• To report an absence, please call 773-881-6518 or email attendance@mothermcauley.org. When reporting an absence, please provide your daughter’s name and the reason for the absence.
• A student who is absent from school on the day of an activity or sporting event (game, practice, rehearsal, etc.) may not participate that day in the event or practice.
• A student who is absent 3 or more days is required to provide a doctor’s note to the Dean’s Office upon return.

Main Office Reminders
The Main Office is a central point of contact for families and visitors.
• The Main Office is open Monday–Friday from 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
• All guests should enter through the Circle Drive entrance and check in with Main Office staff; a valid ID is required for anyone entering the building.
• To contact a student during the school day or arrange an early dismissal, parents/guardians must call or email the Attendance Office at 773-881-6518 or attendance@mothermcauley.org.
• Students who need to contact home may ask Main Office staff to call on their behalf.
• Outside food deliveries for students (e.g., restaurant or delivery services) are not permitted. Students should bring lunch from home or purchase a meal from the Dining Hall or Kitty Mac Café.
Transportation & Parking
We aim to keep arrivals and departures safe and efficient for all members of our community.
Drop-Off in Circle Drive
• Students can be dropped off in Circle Drive and enter through the Main Office doors.
• Students who drive and hold a student parking permit may enter through the Athletic Center doors.
Student Parking Permits
• Parking applications for juniors and seniors were submitted in May. Students will receive an email from the Dean’s Office in mid-July if they have been issued a parking permit.
• Permits may be purchased in the Main Office on Monday, August 10 or Tuesday, August 11, between 10:00 a.m. –1:00 p.m.
• To claim a permit, students must bring: a driver’s license; the make, color, and license plate number of the car; and $250 in cash or check payable to Mother McAuley.
• Permits not claimed by 12:00 p.m. on August 15 will be offered to the next student on the waiting list.
CTA Ventra Cards
• For students using public transportation, Ventra Cards are conveniently available on campus.
• CTA Ventra Cards are available for purchase in the Main Office for $2.00.
• Cards can be loaded at station vending machines, online, by phone, or at participating retailers and currency exchanges.
• Students with a Ventra Card from last year should bring it to the Main Office to be reactivated for the current year.
McAuley Bus Service
Mother McAuley offers bus transportation to designated areas for interested families. To request bus service for the 2026–2027 school year, please complete the Online Transportation Form by Monday, August 3. Food Service Info & Accounts
Country House Kitchen Company
Mother McAuley partners with Country House as its dining services and hospitality management provider for the McAuley Dining Hall. The lunch menu includes fresh salads, signature pizza, hot and cold sandwiches, whole grain wraps, a daily pasta bar, restaurant-quality specials, and more. Each morning, Kitty Mac’s Café offers made-to-order specialty coffee drinks, muffins, yogurt parfaits, fresh fruit, and smoothies. Questions about food allergies, menu items, transactions, or payments may be directed to our Country House Manager, Mrs. Jissel Varela at jvarela@mothermcauley.org or 773-881-6532.
MyMealTime Cashless System
Country House operates as a cashless system using the MyMealTime point-of-sale program. Students who pay with cash will receive any change as a credit to their MyMealTime account; change is not issued in cash.
Students can fund their MyMealTime accounts in three ways:
• With cash or check in the cafeteria before school.
• During lunch periods in the Main Office on designated days.
• Online by credit card at mymealtime.com (transaction fees apply).

Locks & Lockers
Lockers provide secure storage for student belongings and help maintain an orderly learning environment.
• The school assigns lockers to students, and locks must be purchased from Mother McAuley.
• Students must keep their assigned lockers locked at all times with a school-issued lock and may not use empty lockers for personal storage.
• Each student is responsible for keeping her locker clean and must report broken lockers to the Main Office.
• If a locker is not properly secured with a school-issued lock, the student may receive a detention. Each student registered for physical education receives a lock for her gym locker, and all valuables and personal belongings are expected to be kept locked at all times. Lost or damaged locks incur a $5 replacement fee.
Safe Environment & Building Hours
We are committed to providing a safe, supervised environment before, during, and after the school day.
• The building opens at 6:30 a.m. during the school year.
• Students arriving after 6:30 a.m. must remain in the Student Lounge until 7:15 a.m., when the school fully opens.
• Dismissal is at 2:45 p.m. on regular school days and 1:42 p.m. on Thursday condensed days.
• The school remains open until 5:00 p.m. unless otherwise noted.
• Students who are not in a supervised activity or sport and are waiting for a ride may use only the Student Lounge as a social learning space until it closes at 5:00 p.m.; other areas of the building are locked at 3:30 p.m.
• All students must be picked up by 5:00 p.m.
Throughout the school day, a Mother McAuley security guard - an armed current or retired police officeris on duty to monitor and support the safety of the school community.
Ready to Learn Student Tech Requirements
Bell-to-Bell Cell Phone Free School
As a reminder, Mother McAuley is a cell phone-free school from bell to bell. From 7:50 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., students may not carry any bluetooth-connected device on their person; all such devices must be locked in her locker. The term “cell phone” includes:
• Smart phones or flip phones
• Airpods, earbuds, headphones and bluetooth connected headphones
• Smartwatches, fitness trackers, smart glasses and other accessories or personal web-capable devices that connect to the internet
• Handheld personal devices outside of the iPad such as tablets, e-readers and video games
Students with documented health conditions, as defined by the McAuley accommodation or health plan, may be permitted to use a cell phone or other mobile device during the school day if required to monitor or manage their health. This use must be approved in advance by school administration and incorporated into the student’s health plan.
If a parent/guardian/student needs to communicate during the school day, phone access is available in the main office. Main office staff will relay any urgent messages to the students.
Student iPad Requirements
Families are responsible for purchasing an iPad for their daughter, and students own their iPads. Students must purchase any iPad model that is a minimum of 64 GB of storage and is wifi capable only (not cellular capable). It is strongly encouraged that students use a protective case, keyboard and Apple pencil or stylus. iPads should be purchased and set up prior to first-year student orientation for freshmen and the first day of classes for all other students.

Academics Schedules, Textbooks & More
Accessing Class Schedules
Student schedules will be released on Monday, July 20 at 8:00 a.m. Schedules will be available to parents and students by clicking the “schedules” or “classes” tab in Blackbaud. If you experience difficulty logging in to Blackbaud, please contact McAuley’s Technology Department at tech@mothermcauley.org.
Any family that has an outstanding tuition balance from the 2025-2026 school year must pay their balance by Friday, July 17. Failure to do so will result in students’ access to their Google and Blackbaud accounts being shut down until rectification is made. This will mean that the student will not be able to access her email or Google Drive, and students and parents will not be able to access the student’s class schedule for the 2026-2027 school year on July 20.
Please contact schedules@mothermcauley.org if you have questions about your schedule; however, no schedule changes will be made prior to schedules being released on July 20. If you want to request a schedule change, please wait and do so during the drop/add period (see below).
Summer Drop/Add Procedures
Summer Drop/Adds will be accepted from Tuesday, July 21 through Thursday, July 23. Summer Drop/Add Request Forms can be downloaded from the Resource Tile in Blackbaud at 8:00 a.m. on July 20. Once complete, forms should be sent to schedules@mothermcauley.org.
Adding a course is dependent upon seat availability. All classes have a maximum seating capacity, so a seat must be available in order to be placed into a different course. All courses also have a minimum seating capacity, so you may not be able to drop a course if doing so would bring enrollment below the minimum. Your request will be reviewed by Ms. Sandra Smycz, the Assistant Principal of Academics. If changes are approved, they will be denoted on your schedule within five working days and you will receive an email confirmation. If changes are denied, you will be notified via your Mother McAuley email.
Dropping an Eighth Class
Any student who is enrolled in an eighth academic course in lieu of a study hall or open period has the option of dropping her eighth course. All students are required to take seven credits each year, so this option pertains only to dropping an eighth course.
If you choose to drop an eighth course, please complete the Eighth Course Drop Form available in Blackbaud at 8:00 a.m. on July 20. Completed forms must be submitted to schedules@mothermcauley.org between Tuesday, July 21 through Thursday, July 23. The parameters listed above apply for dropping an eighth class as well.
Fall Drop/Add Period
The Fall drop/add period takes place on Wednesday, August 19; Thursday, August 20; and Friday, August 21. Fall 2026 drop/add forms will be available to students on Blackbaud by 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19. Important Information: eCampus Bookstore
All textbooks for the 2026-2027 school year will be available on our eCampus bookstore website beginning July 20. The bookstore can be accessed by going to https://mothermcauley.ecampus.com/. Students will use their schedules to look up classes and course numbers. The website has a “Shop by Course” section, where you will find the required texts, materials, and fees for each individual class. Summertime provides a great opportunity for students to continue reading for pleasure and to catch up on books they did not have time for during the school year. During students’ time away from the classroom, it is important that they do not lose the literacy skills gained throughout the previous school year. Accommodations: Sister Brian Costello Learning Resource Program
The Sister Brian Costello Learning Resource Program offers student support through resource classes. Placement in this program requires current diagnostic documentation (within three school years) to be on file at the school, including both of the following:
• An IEP, 504 or ICEP Plan
• A neuropsychological evaluation within the last three school years
This program is overseen by two resource teaching specialists, Mrs. Jennifer Murzyn and Ms. Julie Vanderwerf. Questions regarding students with accommodations can be directed to either of them.
Math Instructional Support
Mother McAuley staffs a Math Lab with our own math teachers before school and throughout the day to assist students with their Math courses. Students may drop in to the Math Lab before school or during their lunch, study, or open periods for additional support. Assigned School Counselors
Three full-time licensed school counselors support the academic, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of students. Counselors meet individually, in small group settings, and through classroom curriculum to support the holistic needs of students. Counselors and resource specialists collaborate with parents, teachers, administrators, and outside professionals to help each student thrive at Mother McAuley.
Students are assigned a counselor based on their last name, and that counselor remains with the student for their entire time at Mother McAuley.

Social Worker
Our school social worker, Ms. Nadine Byrnes, is a trained mental health professional who can assist with mental health concerns, behavioral concerns, positive behavioral supports, and academic and classroom support. She consults with teachers, parents, and administrators and provides a higher level of support to students when needed. The school social worker partners with outside organizations to support students who may participate in hospitalization or outpatient programs. Students must be referred to the social worker by the Lead of the Department, Mrs. Sarah Kolkmeyer.

College Fair | September 28
All students and their parents/guardians are invited to attend the annual Mother McAuley–Brother Rice College Fair on Monday, September 28 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. This event provides an invaluable opportunity to meet with representatives from colleges and universities across the country. Seniors can use this time to connect with colleges one last time, and all other Mighty Macs, especially juniors, can begin or deepen their college search.

Students in the Class of 2027 are asked to have all college applications completed by Thursday, October 15, 2026.
Standardized Testing
Mother McAuley’s standardized testing sequence uses nationally normed achievement tests offered by the College Board (SAT) and ACT Corporation. This sequence provides students with preparation for both the ACT and SAT college admission exams and offers data to evaluate a student’s academic skill set and college readiness over time.
• In the fall, the PSAT/NMSQT is required of all juniors, Class of 2028. PSAT/NMSQT results determine National Merit eligibility, as defined by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, and measure reading, writing, and mathematics ability.
• In the spring, the PreACT is required of all freshman (Class of 2030) and sophomore (Class of 2029) students, and the ACT is required of all junior students (Class of 2028). These exams measure mathematics, English, reading, and science reasoning ability.
• As a college preparatory institution, Mother McAuley expects all junior students to obtain an official ACT or SAT score. An ACT or SAT score is an admission requirement for most colleges and universities and may be used for admission, course placement, and scholarship eligibility.
Medication & Immunizations Health Office
Health Office
Our health office is located on the first floor, near D Wing, and is open throughout the school day. It provides essential health services, including basic first aid, emergency care, medication administration, and monitoring of ill students until they can be picked up by a parent or guardian.
If a student becomes ill, she must obtain a pass to the Nurse’s Office from her classroom teacher. Students should not call a parent to obtain a release from school. The School Nurse or the student’s Dean will contact the parent/guardian if a release from school due to illness is necessary. Students going home must be picked up and signed out through the Main Office; a parent or guardian may give permission for the student to drive herself home. A student who is ill and leaves school without proper permission is considered truant and may face appropriate disciplinary consequences.
Medication
The Health Office does not supply medication for students. Parents or guardians must provide all medication in the original pharmacy bottle with the prescription label attached. All prescription and over-the-counter medications must be kept in the Health Office in the original container and must not be expired. Students are not allowed to hold medication or self-medicate.
If a student requires medication during school hours, please use the medication forms located on the school website. Allergy, asthma, and seizure action plans must be renewed each year and submitted with EpiPens and any other necessary medication.
Physical Requirements: First Year Students and Student-Athletes
• First Year Students | Class of 2030
All freshmen and transfer students are required to submit a completed physical with all state-required immunizations prior to the first day of school to our school nurse, Mrs. Ann Gruber. Physicals for all first year students were due on June 25. If you missed this deadline, please submit your physical immediately. In order for your Mighty Mac to start school on August 17, we must have a physical on file.
• Student Athletes | Classes of 2027, 2028, 2029 and 2030
Athletes are annually required to have a current sports physical on file before participating in sports. Students may not try out or practice without a valid physical on file. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are not participating in sports are not required to submit physicals. For information regarding athletic physicals, please email physicals@mothermcauley.org.

• Meningitis Booster | Class of 2027
Illinois State Law (410 ILCS 315/1.10) requires all students entering 12th grade in any public, private, or parochial school to show proof of having received either two doses of the meningococcal conjugate vaccine or one dose after age 16.
Seniors must submit proof of immunization compliance in hard copy to the Health Office no later than the first day of school, August 19, 2026. By law, if no proof is provided by this date, your daughter will be excluded from classes until she is able to receive the vaccine and present the required documentation.
Many local health departments, private healthcare providers, and clinics offer this vaccine. Please contact your doctor’s office for specific instructions regarding your daughter. For more information about meningococcal disease and immunization, please visit The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website.
• Vision Exams | Transfer Students Only
Illinois State law requires any student enrolling for the first time in an Illinois school to have an eye examination before October 15, 2026. The State of Illinois Vision Exam Form or equivalent forms from other states are acceptable. For more information, please contact the school nurse Mrs. Ann Gruber via email or 773-881-6524.
Sick and Absence Procedures
In consideration of your child, classmates, and staff, please keep your student at home if she is ill or not feeling well. If your daughter will not be attending school, please notify the school of absences as soon as possible by emailing or calling the Main Office. A student must be free of symptoms or illness for at least 24 hours before returning to school.
If a student is absent for three or more days, a doctor’s note needs to be provided to both the Main Office and Health Office.

Uniform Requirements
Mother McAuley has a dress code because we believe it promotes values that are central to our Mercy mission. As an institution, we aim to be counter cultural and encourage modesty and equity among our students. A dress code contributes to a sense of structure, along with respect for others and for oneself, establishes an atmosphere conducive to learning, and helps project a positive image of the school. We ask that all students report to school each day well-groomed and in the uniform that aligns with McAuley’s dress code. Our uniform dress code will be enforced beginning Wednesday, August 19.
• Uniforms | Class of 2028 and Class of 2030
The Freshmen (Class of 2030) and Juniors (Class of 2028) are receiving new plaid kilts for the 20262027 academic year. They are required to wear red or white polo shirts with the McAuley shield, and may choose from four approved outerwear options: red v-neck sweater, red cardigan, and two styles of navy zip-ups.
All freshmen are required to wear Doc Marten Mary Jane smooth leather black shoes (style #8065). These shoes can be purchased on the Doc Marten website or at various other stores including Golden Shoes, who will provide a discount. Juniors can wear Doc Marten Mary Jane shoes or black gym shoes that are outlined in the dress code on our website.
• Uniforms | Class of 2027 and Class of 2029
The Sophomores (Class of 2028) and Seniors (Class of 2027) will continue to wear their skirts from last year - red plaid for sophomores and blue-white plaid for seniors. • Daily Uniform | Dress Code Policy
The information below outlines the acceptable dress code policy for McAuley students; visuals are available on our website. Questions about purchasing uniform pieces can be directed to our Macs Ltd. Store Manager, Mrs. Maria Wantuck via email or 773-881-6503. Questions about the uniform dress code policy can be directed to our Head Dean of Students, Ms. Amanda Sullivan.
• Skirt: Each class has a specific skirt that they wear for two years. New plaid patterns were selected this year for incoming freshmen and juniors.
• Golf/Polo Shirts: McAuley golf/polo shirts are available in short-sleeved styles and may be purchased in red or white.
• Cardigan or V-Neck Sweaters: Students may wear red v-neck sweaters or cardigans bearing the McAuley shield. These wardrobe items are available in red only.
• Stretch Half-Zip Pull-Over or Heavy-Full Zip: Students may also wear a navy zipper-front fleece quarter-zip bearing the school logo or the heavy navy full-zip outerwear jacket.
• Navy Knit Pants: Students who prefer to wear pants instead of the skirt may purchase navy knit pants through Macs Ltd. Store; these are the only pants permitted as part of the uniform.
• Shoes:
• Junior and Senior students may wear Doc Marten Mary Jane smooth leather black shoes, or any solid black gym shoes with a white or black sole. No Converse or high top shoes are allowed. All logos on gym shoes should be black or white; colored logos are not permitted.
• Freshman and sophomore students are required to wear Doc Marten Mary Jane smooth leather black shoes (style #8065). This requirement, which began with the Class of 2029, is being grandfathered in.
Uniform items that are no longer acceptable include: grey polos, grey outerwear with the McAuley shield, the navy blue Charles River quarter-zip oversized sweatshirt, black sweatshirts, and any polos or outerwear that contain the white embroidered shield. These items have all been grandfathered out as uniform options.
• Hair, Piercing and Tattoo Policy
Extreme hairstyles, hair colors, makeup and excessive and inappropriate body ornaments (i.e., chains, metal-spiked jewelry, hemp necklaces, etc.) are forbidden in school. A student having an extreme hair color or style is considered to be in violation of the uniform policy. Generally, this would include hair dyed an unnatural color completely or in streaks or in patches that draw one’s attention.
Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School does not prohibit hairstyles that are historically associated with race, ethnicity, or hair texture, including, but not limited to, protective hairstyles such as braids, locks, and twists. Hats, sleep caps, skull caps, shower caps, beanies, hoods, and hair rollers (anything that covers the entire head) may never be worn in the building at any time.
Any other apparel, accessories, tattoos and body piercings other than pierced ears are considered a violation of the uniform policy.
• Mac Pride Spirit Days | Every Friday
On Fridays, Mother McAuley students may show their school spirit by wearing Mother McAuley spirit t-shirts, sweatshirts, or long-sleeve t-shirts with their uniform skirts and shoes.

Our Catholic, Mercy identity shapes who we are at Mother McAuley. Prayer and liturgy, retreat experiences, and intentional opportunities for Christian service are just some of the ways mission and ministry animate our community.
Prayer & Liturgy
Several times throughout the year our entire school community gathers for Mass. This central expression of our faith helps shape the rhythm of the academic year. Unless otherwise noted, Mass begins at 9:12 a.m. in the auditorium. Parents and guardians are always warmly invited to attend.

In addition to all-school Masses, Mass is celebrated on the first Friday of every month at 7:20 a.m. in the second-floor chapel. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with opportunities for adoration are typically available throughout the day following First Friday Mass. Communion services are held weekly on Wednesdays at 7:30 a.m. in the chapel.
Opportunities to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation are available via Theology classes during Advent and Lent.

Kairos Retreat | Class of 2027
Seniors have the opportunity to participate in a multi-day Kairos retreat. Kairos, a Greek word meaning “God’s time,” is an overnight retreat that gives senior students the chance to intentionally reflect on their relationship with God and others. Sign-ups and permission slips for each of the four Kairos retreats will be available the first week of school and are accepted on a first come, first served basis. Students should look carefully at their sports, theater, and other extracurricular schedules before signing up for a particular Kairos retreat. Student participation on Kairos is subject to approval from the dean, finance office, and administration. The 2026-2027 Kairos retreat dates include:

Christian Service and Outreach
Following the examples of Jesus Christ and Catherine McAuley, serving others is essential to the McAuley experience. Students are required to complete a minimum of fifteen (15) service hours each year, though many students far exceed this requirement. Additional information regarding service hours (including deadlines and reflective assignments) will be shared via Theology classes.
Mission and Ministry facilitates several service opportunities each month. Students can learn more and sign up for these after-school opportunities in their Theology classes. Additionally, there is a regularly updated list of potential service opportunities for students that is available on Blackbaud.
Students log their service hours via the online platform MobileServe. Students will create (or re-access) their MobileServe accounts in Theology classes.

Sacramental Preparation for Confirmation
Sacramental preparation for students who wish to be Confirmed typically occurs during the Spring semester. This ten-week formation program is an opportunity to learn more about the Catholic faith prior to reception of the Sacrament. At Mother McAuley, athletics are an extension of the classroom and a vital part of our Mercy mission, helping young women grow in confidence, character, and community. We are proud of our tradition of excellence in girls’ athletics and of the way our Mighty Macs represent McAuley on the court, field, pool, and track. Registration for the fall athletic season opens Thursday, July 16 and can be found on our athletics website by clicking “Registration” in the top right corner. To ensure your student athlete receives all team communication, please complete registration by Thursday, July 30.
To participate in tryouts and practices, all student-athletes must have the required medical forms completed and on file. Physical exams must be dated within 13 months of participation.
Please email completed sports physicals to physicals@mothermcauley.org and include the sport and your daughter’s first initial and last name in the subject line (example: “Golf - J. Smith”). All athletes must also bring a hard copy of their current physical on the first day of tryouts.

Student-athletes are expected to attend and fully participate in tryouts beginning Monday, August 10 with practices held daily thereafter. A $250 athletic fee applies to all student-athletes who are rostered on a team. Additional information, including practice schedules and team expectations, will be shared with registered participants as the season approaches.

Mothers’ and Fathers’ Clubs
McAuley parents generously share their time and talents to enthusiastically support the mission of Catherine McAuley. Membership in the Mothers’ Club and Fathers’ Club is open to all parents and guardians of Mother McAuley students and offers wonderful opportunities to make new friends and build lasting memories of your daughter’s time at McAuley. All mothers and female legal guardians are warmly invited to join the Mothers’ Club, and all dads and male legal guardians are encouraged to participate in the Fathers’ Club as they support our students, faculty, and administration through service, social, and spiritual events.

Caring For Our Community’s Safety
The safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff is at the heart of Mother McAuley’s mission. We are deeply committed to providing a secure, caring environment where young women can learn, grow, and thrive in the Mercy tradition. Our safety measures are designed to be both vigilant and compassionate, so that families can feel confident that their daughters are known, cared for, and protected.
Mother McAuley partners with experienced safety professionals, including current and retired law enforcement, who serve on our Security Team and are present on campus during the school day and at after school events. Their presence, along with multiple security desks and scheduled coverage, helps ensure that our community is monitored and supported throughout the day. In addition, we continually review and refine our procedures so that our response to any situation is calm, coordinated, and rooted in care for each student as well as every staff member.
To help families understand our key safety practices, a summary of major measures is provided below:
• A dedicated Security Team, including current and retired law enforcement, on campus during school hours and after-school events.
• Controlled building access, with swipe card entry for exterior doors and visitor check-in through the Main Office.
• RAPTOR visitor management system, including quick background checks and visible visitor badges for all guests.
• A comprehensive state-of-the-art network of interior and exterior cameras that can be reviewed in real time or after an incident.
• Regularly scheduled safety drills for intruders, severe weather, and other emergency scenarios.
• Bleed Control Kit Stations, AEDs, and EpiPens placed in high-traffic areas throughout campus.
• Blue-button emergency communication in every classroom for immediate contact with the Main Office.

Welcome Mass and Picnic
August 16 | 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. | Auditorium
Join us in the Auditorium for Mass with other new McAuley families as we begin your daughter’s high school journey in prayer and community. Following Mass, there will be separate programming for first-year students and their parents or guardians, concluding with a picnic dinner hosted by the Mother McAuley community. All first-year students and their parents or guardians are expected to attend. Students will meet their companion group for the first time and receive their lock and locker assignment. Dress for the evening is casual, and school supplies are not needed on Sunday night.

EMPOWER Together | My Mighty Orientation
August 17 & 18 | 7:50 a.m. - 2:45 p.m.
Mother McAuley offers a dynamic orientation experience for first-year students. In addition to Sunday evening’s programming, ninth graders will participate in two full days of preparation designed to ease the transition to high school, build confidence, and foster a strong bond within the Class of 2030. For these first two days, students should report no later than 7:45 a.m. to their assigned companion group classroom. Companion groups and room numbers will be shared on Sunday.
On Monday, August 17, students will take part in icebreakers and academic preparation, walk through their class schedules, meet their teachers during brief class periods, and have time to explore the school. Students may wear shorts, sweatpants, pants, and a McAuley t-shirt.
On Tuesday, August 18, first-year students will participate in iPad training and team-building activities. Students should wear comfortable attire (shorts or sweatpants) and their EMPOWER t-shirt. EMPOWER t-shirts will be distributed to all ninth graders at the end of the school day on Monday, August 17.
The only school supply your daughter will need for Monday and Tuesday is her iPad; students do not need to bring pens or paper. If students are participating in activities after Orientation Days, it is important that they secure their iPad in their locker. Lunch will be provided on both days. Submit Your Birth Certificate
Due Date | Monday, August 3
The State of Illinois requires all first year students to submit a copy of your birth certificate. If you have not sent us a copy of your daughter’s birth certificate, please email it to admissions@mothermcauley.org. This needs to be on file prior to the first day of school.
Student Medical Forms
Physicals Due Immediately | Other Medical Forms by Monday, August 17
All first year students must have a completed physical form on file in order to begin school on Monday, August 17. Physical forms were due on Thursday, June 25, so if you have not submitted your daughter’s form yet, please do so as soon as possible. The physical form (on page 3-4) can be found and downloaded here.
If your daughter has other medical needs (such as asthma, diabetes, allergies, or other conditions) or takes medication that our nurse should be aware of, please complete the appropriate additional medical form(s). These forms are also available here and must be submitted no later than Monday, August 17.
All health forms can be dropped off at our Main Office or emailed directly to our school nurse, Mrs. Ann Gruber, at agruber@mothermcauley.org.

Summer Reading Requirement
Summertime provides a great opportunity for students to continue reading for pleasure and to catch up on reading they did not have time for during the school year. During students’ time away from the classroom, it is important they do not lose the literacy skills gained throughout the previous school year. In order to maintain these skills, students are encouraged to read over the summer, but this is not required.

Dress Code for First Year Students
The First Year Students (Class of 2030) will wear new plaid kilts for the 2026-2027 academic year. Additionally, they will be required to wear red or white polo shirts with the McAuley crest. There are red sweaters (v-neck and cardigan) and navy zip-ups being sold as outerwear. If you still have yet to purchase your daughter’s uniform for the 2026-2027 school year, please visit our website for Macs Ltd. store hours. First year students are required to wear Doc Marten Mary Jane black smooth leather shoes (Style #8065). They are NOT allowed to wear gym shoes.
iPad Requirements
Purchase, Set-Up and Training
Families are responsible for purchasing an iPad for their daughter. Students will have full ownership of their devices, as iPads are not purchased through Mother McAuley. Students may purchase any iPad model with a minimum of 64 GB of storage. iPads must be Wi-Fi capable only, not cellular capable. It is strongly encouraged that students also purchase a protective case, keyboard, and Apple Pencil or stylus. iPads should be purchased and set up prior to first-year student orientation.
To ensure students are ready for learning, iPads should be fully charged each day, updated with the latest operating system, and configured with any school-recommended apps.. During first-year student orientation, there will be a technology training session to introduce students to the programs, apps, and tools they will use in their first year. Students will need to bring their iPad to both orientation days - Monday, August 17, and Tuesday, August 18 - and every school day thereafter. Questions can be directed to tech@mothermcauley.org.
Setting up your iPad
Prior to Monday, August 17 students will need to set-up their iPad as they will be using their iPad on August 17 and 18. We request that all iPads are set up prior to the start of orientation. Please be sure to have your student bring her Apple ID and password. Students must have the ability to download free apps. If there are parental controls associated with her Apple ID, please be sure the permissions allow downloads. If you have any questions regarding this setup, please email tech@mothermcauley.org. Also, we will have tech support available on Monday, August 17 from 7:00 - 7:45 a.m. in our Student Lounge.
Retreat Experiences
Retreat experiences are an important part of student life at Mother McAuley, providing students intentional time for prayer, reflection and community-building. The first-year student retreats take place during the school day.
