From My Small Town Roots to Las Vegas I grew up in a small town in North Carolina where everyone knew your name, neighbors shared meals, and community wasn’t just a word—it was a way of life.

When I came to Las Vegas, I fell in love with the energy, culture, and diversity of the city. But I also noticed something missing: people craved connection. They wanted a place to slow down, meet their neighbors, and feel like they belonged.

That’s when the idea for Farm To Table Farmers Market was born—a place that combines the heart of a small town with the vibrant spirit of Las Vegas.

The park provides the perfect setting for families to gather, shop, and enjoy fresh air while connecting with local vendors.

The city’s support helped us transform from a weekly market into a once-a-month large-scale event filled with food, fun, and community.

But what really amazes me are the vendors—farmers, bakers, artisans, and small business owners—who pour their hearts into every product they bring.

Growing up, meals were what connected people. Sitting around the table wasn’t just about eating—it was about talking, laughing, and sharing life together.

Some of my favorite memories are of making crafts with family and friends and spending hours in the kitchen baking with my mom, my aunts, and my grandmother. Those moments showed me that food and creativity bring people closer than almost anything else.

That’s the feeling I want to bring back to Las Vegas. Beneath the lights and entertainment, this city is full of families who want to belong. Farm To Table Farmers Market is my way of giving them that space—a place that feels like home in the middle of a bustling city.

Home Cooked Happiness: Cooking with Love with Jennifer Affronti

Healthy Jack-O-Peppers Autumn is a cozy season, and Halloween is the perfect excuse to play with your food— literally! Instead of carving pumpkins, why not carve some bright orange bell peppers?

These Italian-inspired stuffed peppers are full of lean protein, veggies, and melty cheese for a meal that feels indulgent but is secretly very wholesome. Bonus: they look spooky on the table!

And with that, are you ready to cook an amazing meal for your family? First things first, let’s get happy!! You will hear me say this over and over. Reason being is I truly believe everything is energy, and when you are in a good mood, it translates into the food you are preparing. I am known to do silly little dances in the kitchen while I am cooking. I like to turn on music or an inspiring podcast and I even say a quick prayer. That’s my secret to cooking.

What you will need: • • • • • • • • • • • • •

8x8 casserole baking dish A small pumpkin carver 4 large orange bell peppers 1 cup of cooked rice 1 TBL of olive oil ½ lb of ground turkey ½ onion chopped 2 cloves of garlic minced 1 can of Italian style diced tomatoes (split in two) 1 cup of shredded mozzarella (split in two) ¼ cup of grated parmesan cheese (split in two) 1 tsp of dried Italian seasoning Salt and pepper to taste

Directions: 1. Preheat your oven 375’ and lightly grease your baking dish.

2. Cut the tops off of your bell peppers and remove the seeds and membranes inside. Now make your jack o lantern face with your small pumpkin carver.

3. In a large skillet, put your tablespoon of olive oil and sauté your onions and minced garlic on medium heat. About 3 minutes until the onions

are softened.

4. Add your ground turkey and brown. Cook until it is browned and broken apart.

5. Stir in ½ can of Italian style diced tomatoes, cooked rice, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper.

Cook for another 4 minutes and let everything melt together.

6. Turn off the heat and mix in half the mozzarella and parmesan cheese into the meat mixture.

7. Stuff each of your peppers and fill them right to the top.

8. Stand your peppers upright in the baking dish.

9. Sprinkle the rest of the cheese on top of each pepper.

10. Put the rest of the diced tomatoes at the bottom of the baking dish in between the peppers.

11. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Uncover them and bake for another 10 minutes.

12. Once baked, take out and enjoy!

Variations: • Low-carb: Swap rice for cauliflower rice or quinoa • Dairy-free: Use vegan mozzarella + nutritional yeast instead of Parmesan.

• Vegan use lentils or black beans • Extra cozy: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes.

Every October, we see costumes everywhere. Superheroes, masks, disguises. But many women don’t need Halloween to know what it feels like to wear a costume. We slip into our Superwoman capes every single day. We juggle work, family, friendships, appointments, and endless to-dos with a smile, pretending we can do it all without breaking a sweat.

And here’s the kicker. We often get praised for it. Society applauds women who push through exhaustion, say yes to everything, and put everyone else first. “You’re amazing, I don’t know how you do it all,” they say. It feels good to be admired, but beneath that cape, it often comes at a cost we can no longer afford.

The Hidden Cost of the Superwoman Cape The habits that earn us the most praise, overworking, multitasking, never saying no, putting ourselves last, are the very ones hijacking our hormones. When you’re in perimenopause or menopause, your body is already navigating major hormonal shifts. Estrogen and progesterone, which once helped buffer your stress response, begin to fluctuate or decline. This makes your nervous system more reactive to stress. Add in the “Superwoman” lifestyle and you’ve got a recipe for cortisol overload.

What does that look like?

• Fatigue that doesn’t lift, no

matter how much coffee you drink • Restless nights followed by wired-but-tired mornings • Mood swings or irritability that feel out of character • Sugar cravings that hit hard in the afternoon • Brain fog that makes even small tasks feel overwhelming • It’s not that you’re failing. • Courage Means Taking the Cape Off Real courage isn’t in doing it all. It’s in saying, “I can’t keep sacrificing myself to prove I’m strong.” It’s in recognizing that

A Journey Years in the Making

Turning a Dream Into Reality

With David’s mechanical expertise and Meghan’s determination, the couple began sketching out what would eventually become Caffeine Cruiser. David poured his knowledge into designing and custom-building the trailer, ensuring every detail fit their vision. Meghan, meanwhile, experimented endlessly in the kitchen, blending spices, fruits, and natural ingredients into syrups that gave their drinks a unique twist.

“It was a lot of trial and error,” Meghan admits with a laugh.

“But that’s the fun part—you get to be creative, and when you finally taste a recipe that just

works, it feels like magic.”

Coffee with a Purpose From the very beginning, the Pyles knew that Caffeine Cruiser had to be more than a business. It had to be a way to give back. Having spent years in education, Meghan had a deep appreciation for teachers, students, and schools. She wanted Caffeine Cruiser to serve not only drinks but also the community itself.

That’s why the trailer frequently partners with schools for fundraisers and teacher appreciation days. For Meghan, those events are personal. “I know how hard teachers work, often with little recognition,” she says. “Being able

to show up with coffee and brighten their day—it’s my way of saying thank you.”

Beyond schools, the Pyles also make it a priority to participate in local events, from festivals to farmers’ markets. Wherever the Cruiser parks, it brings more than caffeine. It brings conversation, laughter, and connection.

Building Something for the Future Running a mobile coffee business is not without challenges. The couple had to navigate permits, logistics, and the unpredictability of weather and events. They invested in equipment carefully, balancing cost with quality. In their first year, they’ve already faced the

realities of relying on a generator for power and the need for equipment upgrades to keep pace with demand.

Still, every hurdle has only made them more determined. “It’s a lot of work, but when you see someone take that first sip and smile, it makes everything worth it,” Meghan says.

For David, the satisfaction comes not only from seeing the business grow but from watching his family thrive together. “Our kids are part of this journey too,” he says. “They see what it takes to build something, to put your heart into it. That’s a lesson I hope sticks with them.”

A Unique Approach to Flavor One of the hallmarks of Caffeine Cruiser is its commitment to house-made syrups. While many coffee shops rely on storebought options, Meghan insists on crafting her own, free of additives and artificial chemicals.

“It’s about quality,” she explains.

“When you taste a latte made with real cinnamon, maple, or vanilla, there’s no comparison.

You can taste the di#erence, and people appreciate that.”

The syrups have become a signature of the Cruiser, o#ering flavors customers can’t find anywhere else. Some blends draw inspiration from classic favorites, while others are bold and inventive, reflecting Meghan’s creativity and willingness to experiment.

“It’s not just about serving drinks—it’s about creating moments,” Meghan says. “Some of our customers have become friends. We get to celebrate birthdays, milestones, and even just the little things, like a good conversation on a busy morning.”

Looking Ahead As Caffeine Cruiser enters its second year, Meghan and David have big dreams. They hope to expand their reach, upgrading equipment and exploring new

opportunities to serve more people. But at the same time, they want to stay true to the heart of what they’ve built: a family-run business grounded in care, authenticity, and community spirit.

“When I look back at where we started—just an idea, a dream— it’s incredible to see how far we’ve come in a year,” Meghan reflects. “But this is only the beginning. There’s so much more we want to do.”

Las Vegas has always sold reinvention as entertainment.

But for Joanna and Jerry Rivera, the move from California in December 2021 wasn’t about bright lights or easy money.

It was about staying alive— together.

Joanna was already a veteran domestic-violence advocate, the kind of person who stood beside survivors long before tragedy carved its way into her own life.

Jerry brought a different form of rescue to the table. A private investigator trained through the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Academy, he had tracked trafficking victims, pulled people from dangerous situations, and carried a quiet devotion to law enforcement, nutrition, and fitness.

When the couple arrived in Las Vegas, they thought they were beginning a fresh chapter.

Instead, life ambushed them.

During their search for a home Jerry was struck in a hit-andrun crash that left him severely disabled and forced to change his line of work. The accident wiped out their financial plan and their confidence in the city they had chosen.

Zen in the City From Survival to Sanctuary

“We were ready to leave Las Vegas,” Joanna remembers. “It just didn’t feel like it was going to work out.” Then the city surprised them.

They partnered with the Henderson Police Department on community film projects that bridge the gap between survivors and law enforcement.

“Zen Vapors integrated us into Las Vegas,” Jerry says. “It gave us a place and a purpose. It gave us family.”

They also participated in Lost Voices, a national documentary series capturing the lives of survivors across the United States. They filmed their segment from the back of Zen Vapors, transforming the shop into an impromptu studio. But when the director suddenly shut down production, the experience became a wake-up call.

Building on Loss

For Joanna and Jerry, Zen Vapors became a chance to work together, build community, and create something meaningful for their four kids. Within weeks the shop began to morph. Customers lingered.

Conversations stretched.

Strangers returned just to hang out.

The Riveras’ partnership has always been rooted in service.

Joanna carries years of survivor advocacy; Jerry brings the discipline of law enforcement and fitness. Both also carry the ache of separation—Joanna’s missing daughters and Jerry’s two children living overseas, one serving in the military.

Instead of allowing grief to calcify, they used it as building material.

“We know what it’s like to lose,” Joanna explains. “But we also know what it’s like to build again.

That’s why being entrusted with Zen Vapors meant so much. We didn’t just inherit a shop—we transformed it into a hub for hope.”

Enter Monk Nation Their newest collaboration takes Zen Vapors’ mission in an unexpected direction.

Monk Nation, a fast-growing bodybuilding and wellness collective, recently announced a relocation to Las Vegas. Built on discipline, personal growth, and brotherhood, Monk Nation supports members through training camps, competitions, and content creation while promoting mental resilience.

“When Monk Nation came to Vegas, we saw immediately how aligned our missions were,” Joanna says. “They’re about building strength and discipline,

and we’re about building sanctuary and connection.

Together, we can create something truly powerful.”

Joanna emphasizes. “It’s a community space entrusted to us, transformed into something bigger than business.”

Now, the partnership is expanding into the media space.

Jerry, alongside surprise cohosts, is launching a new podcast in collaboration with Monk Nation—a project designed to bring a strong, positive male voice to Las Vegas. The show will highlight resilience, discipline, and brotherhood, offering conversations that inspire men and women alike while carving out space for healthier narratives around strength and survival.

What You Will Need: • 1 puff pastry sheet (thawed out and they have gluten free ones at Whole Foods) • Pumpkin Cookie cutter (I got mine from Michael’s) • Skull Cookie cutter • Parchment paper (so nothing sticks) • Rolling pin (or a clean cup works too!)

• Cookie sheet • 1 pumpkin carving knife • 1/2 can of pumpkin • 1 Tablespoon of Pumpkin Spice • 1 Tablespoon of maple syrup • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon • ½ cup of blueberry, cherry or blackberry jam (for the skulls ones) • ½ cup of Swerve powdered sugar • 2 Tablespoons of heavy whipping cream • 1 egg beaten (for brushing the tops)

3. Get ready to make spooky faces! On half of your pumpkins, cut triangle eyes and a mouth (like a jack-o’-lantern). On half of your skulls, cut out eye holes. (Grown-ups should help with the knife part!)

4. Take your half a can of pumpkin and mix in your pumpkin spice, cinnamon and maple syrup.

5. On the pumpkin pastry that is without a face, place a big dollop of your pumpkin mixture on the center. For your skulls, place a dollop of your jam.

6. Close them up. Place the “face” piece on top of the filling piece. Gently press the edges together, then press all around with a fork to seal.

7. Egg wash time! Brush the tops with the beaten egg so they bake golden brown.

8. Place them on your cookie sheet and bake them for 20 minutes.
