s we celebrate one of the most meaningful months in RISE history, my heart is overflowing with gratitude.
This July issue comes out on the heels of an unforgettable RISE Gala, a night that reminded us what is possible when people come together with a shared purpose: to uplift, encourage, and celebrate one another. What began as a simple vision has grown into a community of leaders, entrepreneurs, dreamers, and change makers who believe that success is even more powerful when it’s shared. This month, we are honored to feature Joy Hoover on our cover, alongside the incredible individuals recognized at this year’s RISE Gala. Each award recipient represents the very heart of our mission. They are leaders, advocates, entrepreneurs, mentors, and changemakers who continue to make a lasting impact through their service, innovation, resilience, and dedication to others. To all of our award winners, thank you for the work you do, often behind the scenes and without expectation of recognition. Your stories remind us that leadership is not about titles. It is about integrity, compassion, courage, and the willingness to lift others as we climb. We are honored to celebrate you and the legacy you are creating within our community.

As you turn these pages, I hope you find encouragement to continue pursuing the dreams placed on your heart. I hope you celebrate how far you’ve come, even if you’re still working toward where you want to be. Most importantly, I hope you remember that

there is room for all of us to succeed. Collaboration over competition. Community over comparison. Love over fear. Thank you for being part of the RISE family. Whether you’ve attended an event, shared your story, supported another entrepreneur, or simply picked up this magazine, you are helping create something truly special. RISE has never been about one person. It has always been about the collective power of people coming together to inspire, empower, and create meaningful change. Here’s to celebrating those who lead with purpose, honoring the remarkable individuals recognized this year, and continuing to build a community where everyone has the opportunity to rise. Thank you for being part of this journey.
Leadership is not about titles. It is about integrity, compassion, courage and the willingness to lift others as we climb.

Meet Our Feature
CONGRESSWOMAN SUSIE LEE Congresswoman Susie Lee, a 33-year resident of Las Vegas, represents Nevada’s Third Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives. Since 2018, she has focused on expanding educational opportunities, strengthening Nevada’s economy, lowering costs, improving access to affordable health care, and supporting small businesses.
Despite being in the minority party, Congresswoman Lee continues to work hard in Washington, here at home, and across the aisle, to get real results for Nevadans. It is no wonder she has been recognized as the most bipartisan Member of Congress.
Her commitment to service is rooted in her belief that government should deliver meaningful results for the people it serves. Susie has led bipartisan legislation that was signed into law to help lower housing costs, protect Nevada’s water supply, expand access to health care, protect children from online sexual exploitation, and improve veterans’ health care. She has also secured over $5.6 billion in federal investments for Nevada, hosted hundreds of outreach events, and heard from thousands of Nevadans from veteran pinning ceremonies to roundtables and town halls.

She firmly believes she can’t do her job without hearing from her constituents, and her office has been ranked as one of the most effective at helping constituents who reach out to her for help.
Born and raised to a working-class family of ten in Canton, Ohio, Susie learned early the values of hard work, personal responsibility, and community service. Those principles would eventually shape both her professional life and her approach to public service. Her father was a military veteran who worked at a steel plant, while her mother stayed at home to care for the family of eight kids.

Susie believes we have a great opportunity here in southern Nevada to continue strengthening our workforce and positioning ourselves as a hub of defense contracting. Nevada has one of the largest national security footprints in the country: Nellis and Creech Air Force Bases; the largest contiguous air testing range in the world at the Nevada Test and Training Range; Naval Air Station Fallon; and our National Guards and reserve components. Our state’s workforce is strengthened by veterans who transition out of service and end up staying here in Southern Nevada, innovative people who were on the front lines of protecting our nation and understand what we need to keep our troops safe, either on the ground or in space.

Throughout her life, Susie has had several people support, guide, and shape her; whether it was growing up at the Canton Jewish Center, mentors giving her opportunities and jobs through her college and professional life, or relationships with women like Jones Blackhurst and Wynn who had confidence in her leadership and trusted her with starting organizations. She always tries to get outside, especially in Washington where she could spend a whole day in tunnels and buildings. Directions Prepare the Beef: 1. In a bowl, whisk together fish sauce, soy sauce, lime juice, brown sugar, and garlic. Add the sliced beef and toss to coat. Let marinate for at least 30 minutes (longer if you have time, the flavor builds beautifully!). 2. Heat coconut oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and cook for 3–4 minutes, until browned and cooked through. Season with salt and pepper. Set aside to cool slightly. Assemble the Rolls:
Ingredients
1. Fill a shallow dish with warm water. Dip one rice paper wrapper in for 5–10 seconds until just soft.
Thai Basil Beef Rolls
2. Lay it flat on a clean surface or plate.
What You Need for the Beef Rolls:
3. In the center, layer basil, cilantro, cucumber, bell pepper, and a few strips of beef. 4. Fold in the sides, then roll tightly like a burrito.
• 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced into strips • 12 rice paper wrappers • 1 cup fresh basil leaves • 1 cup fresh cilantro leaves • 1 medium cucumber, julienned • 1 small red bell pepper, thinly sliced
5. Repeat and try not to snack on all the filling along the way. 6. Enjoy dipping them in the Avocado Cilantro Cream Dip !!!
Avocado Cilantro Cream Dip What You Need • 1 medium avocado
• 2 tablespoons fish sauce
• 2 teaspoons lime juice
• 1 tablespoon soy sauce or tamari
• 1 cup fresh cilantro
• 1 tablespoon lime juice
• Pinch of salt
• 1 tablespoon brown sugar • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced • 1 tablespoon coconut oil • Salt and pepper, to taste
• ¼ teaspoon garlic powder • 1 cup plain yogurt (Greek yogurt works beautifully for extra creaminess and protein)
Directions Add everything to a blender or food processor and blend until smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust lime or salt as needed.
14
Fun Substitutions No beef? Swap for ground chicken, shrimp, tofu, or even grilled portobello mushrooms. Dairy-free? Use coconut yogurt in the dip— it adds a subtle sweetness that pairs perfectly. Nutty twist: Not feeling the avocado dip? A classic peanut sauce is always a hit. Add heat: A drizzle of sriracha or sliced jalapeños will wake everything up!

What Personal Power Really Looks Like We became the dependable one, the caretaker, the peacekeeper, the achiever, the one who could always handle more. And while those roles may have earned praise and recognition, they often came at the expense of something quieter, but deeply important: ourselves.
What This Does to the Body
The body keeps track of these patterns, even when the mind tries to push past them. A FUNNY THING HAS HAPPENED OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS. People have started
recognizing me. Not because I won the lottery or landed a reality TV show, but because I started sharing little pieces of my everyday life online. A cocktail server who spends her days walking miles across a casino floor is somehow becoming someone people stop to say hello to at work, restaurants, or local events.
It still catches me off guard every single time.
This wasn’t supposed to be the chapter where life got bigger. Yet somehow... it is. RISE MAGAZINE
24
The truth is, I didn’t start creating content because I thought it could become a career. I started because it was fun. Then people started asking questions. Lots of questions. About Las Vegas. About casino etiquette. About cocktail serving. About life on the Strip
Eventually I realized I wasn’t just making videos, I was teaching. With a little sarcasm mixed in, of course. The opportunities that have come from simply pressing “post” continue to amaze me. I’ve now had multiple articles published in Rise Magazine, appeared on podcasts, collaborated with local businesses, attended incredible networking events, and even found myself taking a four-week Michael Jackson dance class simply because I decided this chapter of my life deserved more “yes.” Not because I’m trying to become a professional dancer. Because growth doesn’t always happen inside your comfort zone.
Some of the best things in my life recently started with, “Why not?” Why not take the dance class? Why not write the article? Why not say yes to the interview? Why not hit record? Women spend so much of our lives convincing ourselves we’re either too old, too busy, too inexperienced, or too comfortable to try something new. Then one day we look around and realize we’ve spent years talking ourselves out of opportunities instead of into them.
I’M 47 YEARS OLD. This wasn’t supposed to be the chapter where life got bigger. Yet somehow… it is. 25
Every article I write teaches me something new. Every video teaches me how to be a better communicator. Every troll teaches me thicker skin. Every compliment reminds me that kindness still exists on the internet. And every question someone leaves in my comments reminds me that curiosity is a beautiful thing. Speaking of questions… Here are some of the ones I get asked most often. “How many miles do you walk during a shift?” Enough that my feet deserve their own vacation. “Do you actually like your job?” After 20 years? Absolutely. The guests can be unpredictable, but no two shifts are ever the same. “What’s the weirdest thing someone has ordered?” That’s a constantly changing list. “Do you ever get nervous posting videos?” Every single time. “Have the mean comments gotten easier?” Not easier. I’ve just gotten stronger. “What’s been your proudest accomplishment this year?” Seeing my words printed in a magazine I’ll keep forever. “Will you ever leave cocktail serving?” Maybe someday. But right now it’s giving me stories I couldn’t invent if I tried. “What’s one thing every Vegas visitor should know?” Kindness is free. Tips aren’t, but they’re appreciated. “Do people really say the things you talk about in your videos?” Every. Single. Day. “Do you get free drinks as a guest in Vegas?” Sometimes, but nothing is truly “free.” You’re either playing, tipping, or paying one way or another. “Is it really as glamorous as it looks?” Parts of it are. The lights, the energy, the people-watching. But behind the scenes, it’s a lot of hard work, long hours, and very sore feet. “What’s the best time to visit Las Vegas?” That depends on what you want. Weekdays are calmer. Weekends are chaos. Summer is hot enough to question your life choices. Pick your adventure. “What’s the biggest mistake visitors make?” Treating Vegas like it’s not real life. It is. Your behavior still matters, and so does how you treat people.

WHICH BRING ME TO ONE OF MY FAVORITE ONGOING SERIES...
THINGS GUESTS SAY
THAT MAKE ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE Working on the Las Vegas Strip means hearing sentences that could never exist anywhere else. A few recent favorites include: “Can I get a shot of tequila… on ice?”
You mean tequila on the rocks.
Of course, but please know you’re ordering a Black Russian.
“Can you make my White Russian without the cream?”
“Can I have a mimosa without the orange juice?”
Absolutely. That’s called sparkling wine.
“Can you make it strong… but not taste strong?”
Sure. Let me just check if we have magic behind the bar.
The funny part isn’t that people don’t know drink terminology. Nobody is born knowing cocktails. It’s that people are usually just one simple question away from ordering exactly what they wanted. That’s become one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned not just serving drinks, but in life. Most misunderstandings happen because people don’t know what they don’t know. And that’s okay. Questions aren’t the problem. Assuming is. 27
The people I admire most are the ones who continue asking questions. How can I improve? What haven’t I learned yet? Who can teach me something? What’s possible if I try? Those questions have completely changed the direction of my life. The version of me from five years ago would never believe I’d be writing magazine articles, appearing on podcasts, speaking with local business owners, or planning content months in advance. 28
Yet here we are. Life has a funny way of rewarding consistency. Not perfection. Consistency. One video becomes a hundred. One article becomes several. One opportunity becomes another. One introduction becomes a friendship. One small “yes” becomes an entirely different life. Success rarely arrives with fireworks. Usually it arrives disguised as another ordinary Tuesday where you decide to keep showing up. 29
So if you’re reading this wondering whether you’re too late to start something… You’re not. If you’re wondering whether anyone will care… Someone will. If you’re wondering whether you’re qualified… Learn anyway. If you’re wondering whether you’re capable… You probably already are.
The biggest difference between the people who eventually succeed and the people who don’t isn’t talent. It’s that one group kept going after the excitement wore off. 30
The internet may know me as the Vegas cocktail server who explains casino etiquette. But the people closest to me know the real story.
I’M SIMPLY A WOMAN WHO KEEPS SAYING YES TO GROWTH. One video. One article. One dance class. One opportunity at a time. And honestly? I can’t wait to see what question life asks me next…
By Julie Heather @vegasbornjules 31
I think we just try too hard. Intense straining and pushing because maybe deep down, we don’t believe. We think its reserved for someone else or we’re not good enough and it becomes “Do or Die”. And, whenever it becomes do or die, it is mostly not going to end well. Not because your intentions aren’t there, but because you are running on “Fear” as your operating system. You are saying to yourself, you don’t have it and that tape runs in the mind unless you’ve trained yourself to shut it off.
BALANCE By Justin Cosolo
The state of balance is one where you can move most freely, where you are most yourself. Once you become too passive or too obsessed you fall. It is tapping into the moment, experiencing gratitude and enjoying it. That is the real prize. Creativity springs from focus and balance. The two compliment each other so well.
Look at the greats in the biggest moments. They aren’t necessarily the ones “Trying the Hardest”, They are present and they are free. They tap into their practice and that is what carries them through. They focus and flow. They create because of their balance. You’re never going to have perfect conditions. You make the perfect conditions. And it’s from the breath friend.
What brings these elevated states to someone? The breath, friend. That moment-by-moment awareness, no need to push, no need to strain. Just breathing into the moment, into the task at hand, into the body. Where attention goes, energy flows. The lungs fill in and out just like the sea. The tension drops and the body opens. Flow and Balance. Breathe in and out.
It is your anchor to the moment. It is your anchor to source and spirit energy. It is your confidence. Nowhere else to be grounded. Because it represents losing and gaining.
32
The harvest and the drought. It comes and it goes. You literally can’t do anything to keep all the air in your lungs - It must come out! And you can’t do anything to keep it from coming back in – its automatic. Like the sea. Ebbs and flows.
And the things you can unlock when you are fully present with the breath are astonishing. You can pull energy into areas of the body and heal them from the inside-out. You can expand your heart, so it takes over a room. You can bring breath into the brain and visualize events before they happen. You can be a better friend, lover, human. And it can start with just One conscious breath a day. Everyone has time for One, conscious breath a day. A moment where you take it all in without judging.
There are many breath work techniques that can bring you into a more meditative place. They allow us to tap into the purpose of our humanness, which is to fully experience the duality of our human side and our divine side. But to be in the duality is a challenge. Is it possible to be in our divine side and our human side at the same time? Yes, with much practice. To find this I bet you’ll say, “thank you”. I bet oneness, we are encouraged to let you’ll say “ahh”. I bet you’ll say, go, surrender and to feel more. It becomes less about the mind. It is “I’ve got it pretty good”. Dr Joe Dispenza teaches us about about embodiment.
THE HEART BRIDGE He says: “The heart, located right behind the breastbone, is the body’s fourth energy center. It is our bridge to greater levels of awareness and energy, as well as the center where our divinity begins. The heart is the intersection of our lower three energy centers associated with our earthly body and our upper three energy centers associated with our higher self”. This “Heart Bridge” allows you to align your Heart and your Mind coherently. And you expand and strengthen this bridge with the breath, friend. 33
I have to tell you again; it is not an easy task. Unfortunately for many, their divine side and their human side rarely intersect or “play” with each other. Although many masters have been able to reach balance between divine and human mastering the duality takes consistency, focus and perseverance. In a world that is only speeding up, we are challenged to slow down, to remember, to be patient.
Your two selves couldn’t be more different. I say this not to frighten you or make it feel impossible to merge the two. The first step is finding a place of serenity within yourself, to feel a deeper connection to God, Source, The Universe, whatever you want to call it. And it comes back to the heart. Bring your attention to it move to that place within you, feeling a deep connection to your essence. Many people choose not to lead from the heart, and it is because they are disconnected from it. The heart is the magnet, the heart knows. And although it doesn’t know language, it knows truth.
Ask someone what they truly want in life if they are speaking from the heart, they use fewer words, it is grounded in authenticity, and you feel a connection to them. They’ll say they want wholeness, community, purpose. If you ask someone what they want in life and their answer feels inauthentic, and from a place of insecurity, they are likely speaking from their “prefrontal cortex”. When we speak from the front of the the brain rather than from the heart, it is more calculated it screams “What is this person going to think of me”.
When this is the case, “The Heart Bridge” is deactivated. So often, our mind tells our heart “No” even though the heart doesn’t know words. Picture your heart as the furnace of your deeper self. Just as the furnace needs oxygen to ignite a flame, your heart needs that breath, that mindful oxygen to spark your connection to something greater. When the breath fuels that inner flame, it lights up your creativity, your balance and your connection to what is truly meaningful. And that’s the lesson, isn’t it? The breath reminds us that life was never meant to be gripped so tightly. Every inhale is an act of receiving, every exhale an act of trust. The heart burns brightest when we stop forcing and start trusting; trusting the process, trusting the timing, trusting the intelligence that created us. So, when life feels heavy, come back to the breath, friend. Tend the fire within and watch how naturally the light begins to spread. And you can begin today with just one conscious breath.

We are Always Becoming - Guide to Reinventing Yourself
By Rae Indigo Here in Las Vegas, July hits hard. The heat outside is brutal, so most of us are inside with the AC cranked up, maybe grabbing a quiet moment in the evening after the day slows down. You might catch yourself staring out the window or sitting with a cup of tea, thinking the same thing I hear from so many people: Is this really it? The career that used to excite you now feels heavy. Those old voices keep showing up. You’re too old to start over. Better to stay safe. Dreams like that are for other people. But beneath all that noise, there’s a pull. Something inside wants more.

Inner Freedom
Money and Real Choices
This is the part that often gets overlooked. Real change starts inside. It’s about learning to sit with the hard feelings instead of letting them control your decisions. Once a week, give yourself twenty minutes to look at the fears that pop up. Worries about money, failure, or what people might say if you pivot. Don’t fight them. Just notice them and offer a little understanding. They usually calm down when they’re seen.
Financial fear keeps a lot of us from moving forward. Getting clearer with money isn’t about being perfect. It’s about giving yourself actual options.
Short quiet practices, like sitting in silence or a simple meditation, help you hear that deeper inner guidance. So many people tell me their best career moves or business ideas came from that still place rather than forcing answers. It feels like tapping into something wiser than our busy everyday mind.
Start setting aside what I call a Freedom Fund while you’re still in your current situation. Build enough to cover a few months of basics. At the same time, test your ideas gently. Weekends, evenings, whatever fits. Learn the basic numbers any passion business needs without letting spreadsheets take over. Sarah was 39 and in marketing when she used this approach to move into her own ethical fashion line. She stayed realistic with the money side but gentle with herself. That balance let her make the leap. Now her work supports her family and lines up with what she actually cares about.
Also, look at who you spend time Building Work Around What You Love with. Choose people who support your growth. And clear some clutter in your home. A calmer space often Some of the best paths open up when we turn real passion into leads to a clearer head. work that fits our whole life. These kinds of businesses tend to last because they feed you instead of emptying you.
Don’t wait until everything looks perfect. Start small, learn as you go, and let your own story of change become part of what you share. A Simple 30-Day Practice Week One: Do your belief check and energy tracking every day. Week Two: Sit with any fears that come up and take one small step toward your idea. Week Three: Add to your Freedom Fund and try a small paid offer. Week Four: Clear one space at home and notice how it feels. This July in Las Vegas, with the heat reminding us to slow down and look inward, remember that the shift you’re looking for is already happening inside you.

Leeloo became my greatest teacher.

On top of the physical trauma, she carried the emotional weight to; fear, anxiety, and a nervous system that had been through more than any small dog should ever have to face.

GROWING KINDNESS FLOWER POTS By Tati July is a wonderful time to support our community and help small businesses. One fun way kids can do this is by making a kindness flower pot. You can give it to a local business owner, a neighbor, a teacher, or someone who works hard in your community.
Step-By-Step Instructions Step 1: Paint your flower pot with bright colors. You can draw hearts, flowers, sunshine, or smiley faces. Step 2:
What You Need:
Write a kind message on your pot like: “You help our community grow.” “Thank you for your hard work.” “You make our town special.”
A small flower pot Paint or markers Paintbrushes Potting soil Flower seeds or a small flower Stickers or ribbons (optional)
Step 3: Let the paint dry completely. Step 4: Fill the pot with soil and plant your flower or seeds. Step 5: Make a small card that says who the flower is for and sign your name. Step 6: Give your flower pot to a local business owner, neighbor, or someone who helps your community.
Just like flowers need sunshine and water to grow, people need kindness and encouragement. When we support small businesses and show kindness to others, we help our whole community bloom. Remember, even small acts of kindness can make a very big difference.

COWBOY JALAPEÑO POPPERS By Jennifer Affronti Yeehaw, little chefs! It's the perfect time to cook up something bold, fun, and full of flavor for Dad or anyone who's your everyday hero. These Cowboy Jalapeño Poppers are just the thing! They're creamy, a little smoky, and wrapped in crispy bacon for that true cowboy-style bite. “Don’t worry—once the seeds are scooped out, the jalapeños aren’t too spicy. Just the right kick for a tasty adventure on the range!”
Turn up your favorite song, do a silly kitchen dance, and get those wiggles out before you start. Cooking is all about joy! And don’t forget to say a little prayer or give thanks for your food and the people you’re sharing it with.
Cowboy Safety Tip: Jalapeños can be spicy on your skin, so be sure to wear disposable gloves and never touch your face. Always have a grown-up nearby when using the oven.
First things first! Let’s bring the HAPPY!
Time to Giddy Up, Partner!
Step 1: Make the Cowboy Cream Cheese
Step 2: Build Your Poppers!
What You’ll Need:
What You’ll Need: 6 jalapeños, sliced lengthwise 12 strips of bacon Your Cowboy Cream Cheese Directions (with adult help!): 1.Slice the jalapeños in half lengthwise. 2.Scoop out all the seeds and insides (this keeps them from being too spicy!). 3.Fill each jalapeño half with your creamy cowboy filling. 4.Wrap each one with a strip of bacon—like wrapping a cozy blanket around it!
2 large jalapeños (for roasting) 8 oz cream cheese, softened 1/4 cup BBQ sauce 1/2 cup sour cream 1 tsp garlic powder 1 tsp onion powder 1 tsp smoked paprika 1 tbsp fresh lime juice Salt and black pepper (to taste) Directions (with adult help!): 1.Preheat your oven to 425°F. 2.Place the jalapeños on a baking sheet (lightly sprayed with oil so they don’t stick). 3.Roast for about 15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they look blistered and a little blackened (that’s where the flavor comes from!). 4.Let them cool, then (with gloves on!) remove the stems, skin, and seeds. 5.Dice the roasted jalapeños into small pieces.
Time to Bake! 1.Place your poppers on a baking sheet. 2.Bake at 400°F for about 20 minutes, or until the bacon is crispy and sizzling. Let them cool a bit (they’ll be HOT, partner!), then serve with extra cowboy cream cheese on the side for dipping. These are perfect for sharing—so pile them up on a plate and surprise Dad with your homemade masterpiece. Don’t forget to say,
Mix It Up! In a bowl, combine: Cream cheese, BBQ sauce, Sour cream, Garlic powder, Onion powder, Smoked paprika, Lime juice, and Diced jalapeños. Stir until smooth and creamy. Taste (just a tiny bit!) and add salt and pepper if needed.
“Made by your favorite cowboy (or cowgirl)!”
