Making (half) tracks
THE showstopper at this year’s LAMMA was undoubtedly Case IH’s Magnum 380 CVX Rowtrac – which features both wheels and tracks. Based on the ‘Tractor of the Year 2015’ Magnum 380 CVX, the Rowtrac version draws on the company’s experiences in producing its unconventional Quadtrac models. The firm says the Rowtrac remains “true to Case IH’s design philosophy of using four contact points to transmit power to the ground. “It incorporates a suspended, wheeled front axle which enables power delivery to be maintained even while the tractor is turning and avoids disturbing the soil like a conventional twin-track machine. This design also reduces the amount of forward/rearward roll compared with a twin-tracked machine and enables differential locks to be fitted to maximise traction.” Tracks fitted can be 16, 18, 24 or 30in wide, allowing track settings of 76, 80, 88 or 120in. Power comes from an 8.7 litre six-cylinder Cursor 9 engine
made by FPT Industrial, which produces a maximum output of 435hp. The system allows 600 hour engine oil change intervals. See pages 22-23 for full LAMMA report.
