Locks dredged
DREDGING has been taking place at Branston, Dallow and Tattenhill locks on the Trent & Mersey Canal between Burton-on-Trent and Kings Bromley in Staffordshire. The £60,000 investment by the Canal & River Trust has seen the removal of around 25 tons of sediment from each lock using a specialised grab barge designed for the purpose. While the canal’s depth in the area is generally fine, boaters had reported running aground in some locks.

Explorer cruise
BIRMINGHAM Canal Navigations Society is proposing to run a slightly shorter explorer cruise next year specifically so that hire boats from Alvechurch can take part. This will begin and end in Birmingham from Sunday to Friday and dates will depend on available cruise leaders. BCNS is seeking a boater or a couple with reasonable experience of the BCN or a previous explorer cruise, who would like to show how enjoyable it can be.
