Committee’s recently published annual reports for 2023/24. The scheme is the final stage for complaints about the Canal & River Trust and the Avon Navigation Trust, which are referred after the trusts’ own processes are exhausted and the complainant remains unhappy. The Waterways Ombudsman Committee is responsible for ensuring the scheme is effective.
FAMILIES and residents mingled to celebrate the River Lea, Enfield’s integral waterway. Festival of the Lea saw visitors descend on the river’s towpaths and the BLOQS community space for a free day of arts and cultural activities. It was organised by BLOQS and the Canal & River Trust’s Hinterlands Enfield project, which connects communities along the river, with support from the Arts Council and the People’s Postcode Lottery. During the period April 2023 to March 2024, Waterways Ombudsman Sarah Daniel received 43 enquiries about the CRT and none about the Avon Navigation Trust. Four of the investigations she carried out were complaints from boaters. “At the heart of all these complaints was a lack of responsiveness from the trust,” commented Ms Daniel. “I made recommendations which

CRAFTED Boats Ltd has bought Fenny Marina in South Warwickshire. The company aims to upgrade facilities, run the dry dock for boat repairs, is looking at facilitating a paint tunnel to carry out top-side repaints and is considering building boats there. It is also looking into running a hire fleet, offering brokerage, along with a chandlery and engine services to further its plans to become a one-stop shop for all boating needs.

VISITORS to Foxton Locks in Leicestershire are set to benefit from improved disabled parking and a new ANPR system allowing payment upon departure. Charges remain the same for short and long-stay parking. Payment options are cash, card, app or annual pass available for repeat visitors.
