National Bargee Travellers Association (NBTA) which also claimed a stretch of the Regent’s Canal had been “largely abandoned” following the introduction by CRT of chargeable moorings at £25-35 per night.

Marina awards

Canal connection

BOATING holiday operator Anglo Welsh has bought Sally Narrowboats, offering canal boat hire on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Bradford on Avon Marina in Wiltshire. This adds to the company’s Monkton Combe base at Brassknocker Basin and Sydney Wharf in Bath, through its partnership with Bath Narrowboats. Day boat hire will also be available from the new base. Anglo Welsh operations director Carl Cowlishaw described the canal as one of the most popular on the network for canal boat holidays.

THE Yacht Harbour Association is inviting nominations for its 2024 Marina of the Year awards anchored by marine insurers Haven Knox-Johnston. Categories including inland and sustainable marinas are open to all members holding the association’s Gold Anchor status while nominations for Marina Employee of the Year are open to marinas, moorers and the public. Voting closes on August 30; winners will be announced on the Foredeck Stage at the Southampton International Boat Show, September 8.

AN INTERVIEW by Michael Portillo with IWA Lincolnshire Branch chairman David Pullen appeared recently in an episode of Great British Railway Journeys on BBC Two. With the backdrop of Brayford Pool in Lincoln and the Fossdyke Canal, it focused on the future funding of the waterways and IWA’s history of saving the network. The interview was broadcast during Series 15, Episode 13, Lincoln to York on April 1. If you missed the programme you can catch it on BBC iPlayer.
