Legacy for projects

THE Aire & Calder Navigation has been reopened to boat movements at Elland Bridge as work continues to rebuild the Grade II listed structure damaged in the winter floods. This reinstated an important link for boaters between the Rochdale Canal and the rest of the waterway network. A temporary footbridge will remain in place throughout the works. Similar works have also been taking place at nearby Crowther Bridge and it is hoped that both bridges will be available for use before the end of the year.

273 BOATS FOR SALEP19 Starts on

FOLLOWING a bequest from former IWA consultant engineer and trustee, Tony Harrison, IWA has announced a new fund which waterway projects around the country will be able to bid for. Tony, who was an expert in hydraulics and hydrology in his professional life, served on IWA’s Restoration Committee for 20 years and chaired it for five years. IWA intends that his legacy will continue by inviting waterway projects to bid for the £200,000 that Tony bequeathed to the association. Applications can be for any amount up to £200,000 and there could be more than one recipient.
