WELCOME

Need a hand? D o you have problems getting it up? I did, but this month I went to see a specialist and it’s transformed my life. It’s something us bikers like to keep under wraps, but help is at hand… The first step is admitting you’ve got a problem, which I did over dinner to Pretty Boy Stevens. I was expecting an evening of piss takes, but the BSB fledgling confessed he shared the same constraint and likewise wanted to do something about it. A phone call to the Stunt Asylum proved just the ticket and after a day of grafting that resulted in blistered palms, we both came away much more manly than when we’d arrived; we could wheelie! The proof’s in this issue, as we’ve done a full review of the experience, which caters for everyone from beginners to nutters and all those in between. Be warned, once you’ve learned the techniques, you’ll be getting it up everywhere, even when it’s inappropriate. I know this because that’s been the theme of my month that’s seen me hoisting mingers as far south as Goodwood, where I gave Hutchy’s TT winning BMW S1000RR superbike some unwarranted abuse, as well as up in Scotland, where my Blade got treated to some air time. Me and Neil went up there to do some scratching, and we didn’t come back disappointed. That place is a biking goldmine, as you’ll discover if you check out our tales from over the border. Yep, it’s been an epic month, and I hope you can say the same. But the fun doesn’t stop there, as Fagan’s impressive cover skills showcase. That man’s never had a problem in any department, and especially not when it comes to rinsing the living daylights out of supersport 600 machines. He’s been riding dirty in a bid to show us why 600s are far from dead, and why you should seriously think about buying one; be it a used example or a showroom fresh jobbie. It’s a sector people unfortunately overlook these days, but there’s no greater fun than making a small bike work hard and feeling like you’ve owned it. Can you relate to that experience? It’s a great sensation, so if not, make sure to read up on all the lolz you could be having, because we don’t want you missing out in anyway whatsoever. Remember, bigger isn’t always better, apart from when it is. And on that confusing note, I’ll leave you to your read. Enjoy!

DUCATI 1299 PANIGALE R FINAL EDITION:

THE END OF AN ERA!

Get your tissues at the ready because this is the final incarnation of Ducati’s world changing V-twin superbike. But, on a more positive note, there’s a V4 coming our way!

Y

ep, you heard that right! After three decades of twin-cylinder thrashing, it will be all change from the Bologna giants. The 1299 Panigale R Final edition has a lot to live up to then, and Ducati have rightfully booted it up the nines in the snazziest of classic Italian outfits, before throwing in a tonne of extras to make it worth the £34,995 price tag. Underneath that beautiful Tricolore colour scheme comes 209bhp of solid gold, making it the most powerful production Ducati alongside the 1299 Superleggera. This is thanks to a whole magnitude of changes underneath those fairings: lightened crankshaft, bigger intake and exhaust valves, titanium con-rods and the two 116mm pistons, increased lift on the camshafts, new self-servo slipper clutch… I could almost go on forever. And in case you didn’t notice, check out that incredibly saucy titanium Akrapovic exhaust system – basically a replica of the Superbike spec piece, but with a Euro 4 compliant high dual silencer. Ducati deserve a medal for making those pipes look so good and still legal. In order to keep you rubber side down, the electronics come in the form of the ever popular Bosch Inertial Measurement Unit, which gives Wheelie Control (DWC EVO), a super trick Traction Control (DTC EVO) which acts with the throttle body valves, quick shifter/auto blipper

(DQS), Bosch cornering ABS and engine braking control (EBC), which is all adjustable in and out of the standard rider modes, and is just about what you’d expect on any superbike nowadays. The chassis is the obvious ultra-compact monocoque made famous by the Panigale, which is a vital asset to the Final Edition’s kerb weight of 190kg. The handling elements are incredibly Gucci as well with a set of mammoth Brembo M50 Monobloc calipers and 330mm discs offering the stopping power, and suspension coming in the form of fully adjustable Ohlins NIX 30 TiN-coated upside down forks, Ohlins steering damper and a fully adjustable Ohlins TTX36 monoshock complete with titanium spring. She’ll handle like an absolute babe. Okay, there have been so many Panigales on the market you could be forgiven for losing interest; but this really is something special. The 1299 Panigale R Final Edition is not only the last in a long line of V-twin heritage: 851, 888, 916, 996, 998, 999, 1098, 1198, 1199 and Panigale R, but as much a superbike as it is a real piece of Italian history. Just look at the tech and kit, and you really won’t need to bolt anything else aboard this stallion. The bikes are all numbered (but not limited) and are available now from your local dealer for £34,995. Go get one, and then let us have a play…

MV AGUSTA RELEASE BRUTALE AMERICA 800… We all know how patriotic the old Yanks are, but maybe MV’s draping of the stars and stripes over the Brutale 800 is a tad too much? All jokes aside, I’m almost a bit ashamed to say I like it. In keeping with MV’s slightly strange traditio on of immortalising America an specials since 1975, they’ve just released tthe fourth model to be draped in the famous stars and stripes replicca paint job – but the verry first to be on a three cylinder model. The firrst 50 bikes available will be p purelyy for the US market (one for each state in the Union), with the unveiling happening at, you guessed it, the Laguna Seca

World Superbike W ound. Classic. The ro Brrutale 800 America he obvious snazzy comes with th looks, a specially redesigned seat and an individual bike number and certificate; all to make you feel incredibly special. Oh, and in case

you forget they even laser-cut the words “America Special Edition” into the triple clamp. If you fancy one, they go on sale in the USA this month at a price of $14,998, although if you want one over here it’s going to take some sweet talking a dealership!
