The off-road world is revving up for a new season of dirt bike action and the Telford International Centre is the start line.
E
xcitement is building to fever pitch within the dirt bike world for the Classic Dirt Bike Show on February 8-9, once again supported by Hagon. No matter what discipline you are involved in, the talk is of the show and a variation of: “Going to Telford?” crops up in conversations. Make no mistake, for us offroaders this is better than Christmas. There are of course many reasons why we head to Telford. For some it’s a chance to display their latest restoration project which has consumed many hours in the workshop. Others will pick up last-minute bits and pieces to finish a bike for the coming season. Riders seek out events to compete in while organisers
of events and series will be there too, just as eager to sign up riders as those riders are to sign up for a season of mud-spattered thrills and maybe a few spills. Whether or not you know your knobblies from your holeshots, one of the big things at Telford is the chance to talk to other enthusiasts. Discover you’re not alone in struggling to fettle the knorbled grunge pump on the Flying Albatross – it’s dead simple, turn it on its side and the waffle sprocket just drops out! It isn’t just bikes and bits though, as there will be special guests to chat to and hear from over the weekend. Former world 500cc MX champion Graham Noyce has agreed to be front and centre of this year’s show.
From his early exploits in the burgeoning ‘schoolboy scrambles’ scene of the Sixties to the dizzy heights of world MX, ‘Noycey’ has a tale or two to tell. He will be joined by trials, enduro and MX legend Mick Andrews, whose fabulous career encompasses the end of the British industry, the dominance of the Spanish scene and the introduction of the Japanese manufacturers. The five-time SSDT winner, ISDT gold medallist and top scrambler can recount a fascinating life of sporting success. See you at Telford in February!
