The holiday season in St. Louis means “The Nutcracker,” “Annie,” candlelight tours, Santa Express North Pole Railway, Christmas concerts, spectacular light displays, Santa parades in Missouri's largest historic district, ice skating, carriage rides, holiday shopping and much more. But if you want to escape the wintry festivities to warmer days in a reindeerfree zone, you might pay a visit to the outstanding Cardinals Hall of Fame and Museum in Ballpark Village for a taste of summer’s favorite sport, St. Louis-style.

80 MINUTES IN: In 1892, a barnstorming baseball team in St. Louis owned

by Gerrman immigrant Chris Von der Ahe known as the Browns joined the National League. The team's name was later changed to the Perfectos and finally, in 1900, to the Cardinals. Since then, the St. Louis Cardinals have won eleven World Series championships (the first came in 1926 against Babe Ruth and the Yankees), nineteen National League pennants and thirteen division titles.

That storied history, richly illustrated with a some 22,000 items and 80,000 vintage photographs (considered the largest single-team-focused collection in pro sports), is on display at the Cardinals Hall of Fame and Museum in Ballpark Village, just across Clark St. from Busch Stadium.
