Auction house Artcurial is organising an exceptional auction coinciding with Christian Dior’s 70th anniversary of designing elegant collections. The Fashion Arts Happy Birthday Christian Dior! auction will see pieces designed by Yves Saint Laurent dating back to 1959 and pieces by Christian Dior himself dating back to 1951 going under the hammer. ooking for a gate for your castle, a piece of furniture from the 17th century, an art deco lamp or perhaps in the market for a rare medal? Just north of the northern edge of Paris the celebrated great Parisian flea market, the Marché aux Puces of Saint-Ouen, is in full swing bursting with a host of wares ranging from antique jewellery to Louis XVI period furniture in a series of various markets. The Puces of Saint-Ouen has been a part of the Greater Parisian landscape since the 19th century and today the market groups together some 2000 merchants and antique dealers in 12 distinctive markets (marchés) covering some 9 hectares. The atmosphere is unique, picturesque and village-like with some of the markets bursting with greenery, and it goes beyond a mere shopping experience for bargaining is played out all along the way. While the stands selling bric-a-brac and all sorts of wares have been operating in the area since the 19th century, the proper markets were founded after World War I on the heels of an urban renewal project that brought in electricity and running water. Romain Vernaison was the first to set up shop here in 1920 and the Marché Vernaison is still in operation today with 300 stands spread out over 9000 square metres with fine furniture one of the market’s specialities. Over at the Marché Biron, 220 antique dealers offer a journey into art history with their stands offering art and furniture from the 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. High-end paintings, ceramics, scientific objects, design pieces, jewellery, and photographs are all on the agenda.

The Marché Antica is possibly the smallest of the markets with about 12 merchants carrying a nice selection of carpets, bibelots and art deco pieces. Meanwhile, the Marché Dauphine, which opened in 1991, is one of the largest of the markets in the flea market carrying high-end furniture and objects from the 17th and 18th centuries. Here one also finds craftsmen who carry out restorations and the bouquinistes, the second-hand book dealers. Other items on hand from the 150 specialised merchants include clothing, jewellery and records. Ship Antiques for shipping purchases in France and abroad is found in this market. Old musical instruments and objects and furnishings from the regions of France are among the offerings at the Marché Cambo, which brings together 20 stands on two floors including a space dedicated to decoration. The Marché Le Passage offers up, among other items, a fine selection of vintage clothing, collector postcards and books in a space of 1000 square metres, which as its name implies is a passage connecting the Rue Jules Vallès to the Rue Lecuyer. Collectors can take in the Marché Malassis with its interesting architecture and glass cupola. While the market offers a range of design items, tableware and bistro furnishings, it is also a fine stopover for collectors of watches, toys and postcards. Offerings also include books, antiques and porcelain and ceramic pieces. The Marché Paul Bert Serpette is the largest of the markets with collectors and celebrities from all over the world putting in regular appearances here. It is in reality made up of two markets, respectively the Marché Paul Bert and the Marché

Serpette. The open-air Paul Bert with its 200 stands spread out over 7 lanes is frequented by leading decorators of the world and offers furniture from the Napoleon III epoch along with 20th century pieces. The Marché Serpette is the covered part of the market with some 120 stands featuring high-end furnishings, lighting, and the Olwen Forest stands where you will find vintage designer jewellery and cocktail accessories. The quaint Marché des Rues whose stands are located in what were once small houses welcomes bric-a-brac dealers revealing a host of items. Some 12 purveyors of art deco and art nouveau lighting as well as glassware and bronzes are found at the Marché des Rosiers where collectors of Lalique and Daume converge. The Marché Malik stretches out onto what used to be a fruit and vegetable garden but was turned into a flea market in the 1920s. Some 110 stands selling sportswear and trendy clothing and accessories are found in a venue of 3000 square metres and it is where French tennis champion Joe-Wilfried Tsonga has just opened up a space devoted to sports. The two markets, Marché Lecuyer and L’Usine, remain venues where hidden treasures can still be unearthed and are open to the general public during the week unlike the other venues. Still looking for that castle gate, you might find it in the Marché de l’Entrepôt, which carries non-standard and large items like monumental staircases and garden gazebos. ~ DINING At the Market ~ FLEA MARKET FARE Fine eateries are far from lacking in the markets with cosy restaurants serving simple fare and homemade traditional French meals in the festive atmosphere of the market. The restaurants are generally open when the flea market is. MOB HOTEL RESTAURANT This latest addition to the flea market eating scene has an indoor and an outdoor space for meals and drinks. You can start out here with a healthy breakfast filled with organic products or enjoy a pizza or a nice avocado salad for lunch. All ingredients are organic and some are produced by farm cooperatives. The ambiance is village-like with a large outdoor tree-filled garden and a grocery store offering organic products inside. CHEZ ARNAUD This restaurant serves homemade inventive French cuisine and is located in the Marché Biron. The restaurant works exclusively with French products and beverages, beers and wines are sourced from small French producers. Starters include a cream of cauliflower flavoured with Tonka bean or razor clams with Colonata bacon. MOB Hotel Restaurant

MA COCOTTE This loft-like eatery designed by Philippe Stark is outfitted with two terraces and located in the Marché Paul Bert Serpette. On the ground floor a spacious room looks out onto the kitchens and upstairs are two small dining rooms with each floor enjoying a spacious terrace. his month from June 9th through to the 12th the Festival Jazz Musette des Puces is being held for the 13th time. Artists slated to perform at this year’s jazz festival include Cali, Zaz,

Martin Taylor, Didier Lockwood and Ninine Garcia. Orchestras and brass bands will circulate in the markets and restaurants on the 10th and 11th and special exhibitions are scheduled to be held in the Biron, Vernaison and Malassis markets.

BRASSERIE BIRON This is a traditional French brasserie, which opened in 1931 and is currently being run by the third generation of the founding family. rance’s second largest city, and the country’s largest city on the Mediterranean coast, Marseille, brings the charm of a port city and the attraction of a big city together to offer visitors a slice of quaint with a topping of city lights. The city’s main attraction is of course the port itself, the Old Port, which is encircled by cafes and restaurants from which visitors can enjoy a glass of rosé wine as they watch the boats come in and out of the harbour. Looking up from the port visitors can see the Notre-Dame de la Garde basilica that beautifully sits at the highest point of Marseille. The Romano-Byzantine basilica can be visited daily with guided tours organised upon request with themes ranging from architecture to the history of the site. Perched on the highest point of the city, the basilica offers a panoramic view of the city from where visitors can take in the port and the cascading streets of the town. One of the most luxurious establishments looking over the Old Port is the InterContinental Marseille Hotel. Awarded the 2016 Prix Villegiature Best Terrace in a City in a Hotel in

Europe award, the hotel was once the Hotel de Dieu hospital, but is now one of the city’s most luxurious hotels and boasts the city’s best outdoor dining area that offers diners an incomparable view of the city and of, notably, the Notre-Dame de la Garde. Before the hotel opened the concept of brunching was foreign to locals and now locals have embraced the meal enjoyed by many around the world, especially on weekends, with the hotel introducing the IBrunch. Served every Sunday, the IBrunch is, what appears to be, an endless buffet spread of seafood, grilled meats, cheese and cold meat platters, salads and desserts, taking the ritual of brunching to a more indulging height, and of course the best table to make the most of the brunch dream is from Les Fenêtres restaurant’s terrace with the award-winning view. One of the best ways to discover the city is by foot and with the romance of the architecture recalling the Korba neighbourhood of Cairo, Egypt, guiding visitors through and under the splendid arches that shelter the boutiques and cafes overlooking the port tourists will be drawn to getting lost in the city’s streets. Behind the arches overlooking the water, in the Panier

neighbourhood, visitors can discover lesserknown boutiques specialising in the region’s savoir-faire and one of the boutiques not to be missed is Comptoir O Huiles. This boutique specialises in olive oil, offering no less than 60 different olive oils made using olives from different Mediterranean cities. The founder of the boutique, Gaëlle Carougeau, also organises tastings allowing amateurs the chance to discover the different tastes of olive oils. Just a few minutes from the Comptoir O Huiles is the Marseille Cathedral, a Roman Catholic cathedral that is designed in the ByzantineRoman style. With a capacity to hold 3000 seats, it is one of the largest cathedrals in France and it is the seat of the Archdiocese of Marseille. And just opposite the cathedral is the Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations (MuCEM), a beautiful museum that is worth a visit not only to discover its collections but also to discover the building itself. Designed by architects Rudy Ricciotti and Roland Carta, the museum is a stunning building boasting a shell of latticework offering a view of the harbour through a lace-like design. Inside, the museum hosts temporary exhibitions and exhibits a permanent collection of 250,000 objects,

450,000 photographs and 150,000 books and journals that document the civilisations of Europe and the Mediterranean. Visiting a new city also marks the opportunity for shopping and finding things that cannot be found anywhere else and Marseille’s new shopping complex, Les Docks, offers visitors over 60 boutiques to discover local and independent brands. Foregoing chains, Les Docks features only independent businesses including clothing boutiques and multi-brand boutiques where you can find one-off pieces. Valentine & Co. is one of the boutiques found here where everything on offer is made using French fabrics making all the items 100% made in France. Safari Bags Italian luxury brand Furla has created a fun and colourful capsule collection for the famous Parisian department store Galeries Lafayette. Musical Paintings The Musée des Impressionnismes Giverny is presenting an exhibition focusing in on the musical instrument in art in the latter part of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Entitled Tintamarre ! Instruments de Musique dans l’Art, 1860-1910 (Din! Musical Instruments in Art, 1860-1910), the show brings together close to 100 paintings, drawings, engravings, illustrations, posters and sheet music depicting cabarets, orchestras, operas as well as more personal scenes like drawing room music and music lessons. The works, by among others, Edgar Degas, Paul Gauguin, Edouard Manet, Auguste Renoir and Pierre Bonnard, illustrate the close links between painters and musicians at the time. The beginning of the Impressionist movement coincided with the arrival of new musical instruments and the emergence of concert hall cafés, balls and the inauguration of opera houses. A Colourful Assembly The whimsical and wonderful works of Jérémie Baldocchi have been exhibited all over the world. The colourful, figurative works are at once surprising and thought provoking and they can be discovered in Paris on June 10th and 11th when the artist opens up his Parisian studio to the public. There is a colourful series of children dreaming of objects, the first of which Rêve d’Amour (Dream of Love) was shown at the Salon Artexpo in New York. Le Bal (The Ball) is a dreamy work of figures dancing in a circle and in which the worlds of the Spanish ball, the popular Parisian ball and the balls of the 1920s come together. Headless bodies and round shapes figure prominently in his works, which are created in a medium that combines painting with collage techniques. The Musée de la Vie Romantique is presenting an exhibition devoted to the master of floral painting Pierre-Joseph Redouté whose works melded the fine arts with science. Entitled Le Pouvoir des Fleurs (The Power of Flowers), the show attests to the artist’s scientific rigour and artistic talent. Some 250 paintings, watercolours and objects as well as vellums, which because of their fragility will change three times during the duration of the show, are on display in the museum. Redouté, whose career spanned the 18th and 19th centuries, was nicknamed the Raphael of flower painting and worked closely with the greatest naturalists of the age and contributed to the golden age of natural sciences by reproducing in watercolours on precious vellums plants that had been collected from four continents. Award-Winning Engravings The Academy of Fine Arts is hosting an exhibition of the works of the contemporary French artist Agathe May, the winner of the 2016 Mario AvatiAcadémie des beaux-arts (The Academy of Fine Arts) Engraving Prize. Some 40 works created over the past 20 years are on show revealing a sensitive and precise approach to her subjects, which include nature and homes as well as portraits of people she is close to. The black and white works peppered with colour offer a poetic interpretation of the contemporary world. Her most recent works express a preoccupation with ecology symbolised by La Fôret (The Forest), a monumental xylography (engraving on wood) in which nature is invaded by a multitude of refuse. Over the past few years she has conceived her series of engravings as concept albums evoking tales, myths and foundation myths like her Pandora’s Box series. Down to the Ground The Centre Pompidou is celebrating its 40th birthday throughout France this year and within the context of this milestone in contemporary art, La Monnaie de Paris, the French mint, is hosting in its exhibition spaces a monumental exhibition devoted to sculptures from the Centre Pompidou’s collection. Major works from the 20th and 21st centuries, with a fine selection by women sculptors, are on display, on the ground, for the selected works will be found by visitors at their feet. Entitled A pied d’oeuvre(s) (Work(s) by the Foot), the show brings together 50 works by major artists including Alberto Giacometti, Yves Klein, Marcel Duchamp and Tatiana Trouvé, which literally take the visitor’s gaze down to the ground. The Great Adventure The legend of National Geographic is being played out in the Mineralogy Gallery of the Natural History Museum in the Botanical Gardens in an exhibition celebrating 125 years of exploration, science, human adventures and the worlds of flora and fauna. Some 100 emblematic photographs along with 6 videos are on display showcasing the worlds revealed by National Geographic. From the end of the 19th century and throughout the 20th century, the National Geographic Society supported expeditions to the far corners of the world that had not yet been reached, with these stories and more recounted in National Geographic Magazine accompanied by superb photography. Through National Geographic the field research of primatologists, the ascension of Mount Everest and the discovery of hidden worlds would be among the countless tales of the real world that would come to life for readers, and those very real tales continue to come to life today as National Geographic continues to support research, exploration and conservation projects around the world. Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea The delightful tropical aquarium located at the Port Dorée on the eastern edge of Paris is hosting an exhibition devoted to 40 years of sea exploration entitled To the Bottom of the Seas. The show takes the visitor into the profound depths of the world’s tropical seas into the regions that can be deeper than 10,000 metres, the regions scientists call the benthos. Here live little known creatures, extraordinary creatures with surprising and at times troubling shapes. The show also celebrates one of the major French research missions into the biodiversity of the depths of the seas, the Tropical Deep Sea Benthos. Since then, some 5000 missions have been undertaken involving over 200 scientists from all over the world. The show puts into perspective the Benthos programme, presents a portrait gallery of animals that have been collected, scientific material used in the missions and an array of specimens that are being shown for the very first time. Currently on show is an exhibition devoted to the unique contribution the Caribbean island of Jamaica has made to music. Entitled Jamaica, Jamaica!, the show celebrates the music of Jamaica, among the most popular

in the world, in all of its diversity while demonstrating how it is intimately entwined with the island’s history. Jamaican music brings to mind names like Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Lee Perry, King Tubby and the Alpha Boys School and a host of musical styles ranging from the burru to revival, mento, ska, rocksteady, dub, dancehall and of course reggae. The show brings together objects, photographs and rare films on loan by collectors and museums in Jamaica, the United States and Great Britain and takes

a chronological and thematic path in seven segments recounting the musical and political evolutions in Jamaica. The show begins with a look at the history of the island, which was colonised by the British in 1655 and used as a platform for the slave trade, and Jamaican folk music finds its roots in the legacy of the slaves. Cults blending African and Christian traditions, dances and chants would furnish the first characteristics of the island’s local music. Mento, the first Jamaican Creole music, emerged at the end of the 19th century in the countryside and was influenced by the legacies left by slavery like the dances and chants of the peoples of West Africa. It reached its apogee in the 1950s.

The second part of the show looks at Jamaica’s independence in 1962, which coincided with the rise of an effervescent music, ska, a blend of local musical traditions with American rhythm and blues and jazz. Lead by the Skatalites, a group of underprivileged youth educated at the Alpha Boys School, ska would become the first Jamaican music to go international. The vocational Alpha Boys School in Kingston took in the very poor and orphans and would educate a large number of Jamaica’s most famous musicians.

and the rise of reggae. Trenchtown is the neighbourhood of West Kingston where Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Livingston, the original Wailers, grew up and began playing together. The Dancehall Style segment devoted to the music that emerged after Marley winds up the show. The Philharmonie is housed in a striking building that was designed by the French architect Jean Nouvel who worked with two internationally renowned acoustic specialists for the heart of the structure is its concert hall, the Grande Salle, with 2400 seats. The inviting structure revolves around a concentric affair of sparkling aluminium, which encloses the concert hall, which in turn is nestled into a more sober enveloping structure with elegant angles. The public can stroll below and through the complex as well as upon its 37-metre

The building houses five state-of-the-art rehearsal rooms and 10 rehearsal studios, which are also available to the public, educational spaces and places for fun workshops, the temporary exhibition space, a conference room, a library, a brasserie and a restaurant. It is also the permanent residence of the Orchestre de Paris.

The Hey Mr. Music! section takes a look at the unique methods of music production in Jamaica and focuses on Motta’s Recording Studio, Jamaica’s first private recording studio. The exhibition reproduces three of Jamaica’s major studios, Studio One, Lee Perry’s Black Ark and King Tubby’s studio. The next section looks at the Jamaican phenomenon of the sound system, a mobile street record player that was in use from 1950 since certain kinds of music, notably mento and American rhythm and blues were not allowed at the time to be played over the radio. Outdoor balls were organised where any kind of music could be played on the sound system. On a historical note, the fifth part of the show looks at the Jamaican-born activist Marcus Garvey, a leading figure of PanAfricanism and Haile Selassie I, the Ethiopian emperor who would become the incarnation of God for the Rastafarians, a Jamaican philosophical and spiritual movement. Listed on UNESCO’s World Heritage list, the Château de Versailles features different apartments and salons including the Hall of Mirrors. The exquisite central gallery, which features 357 mirrors that decorate the 17 arches positioned just opposite the windows, was where French Prime Minister Georges Benjamin Clemenceau signed the Treaty of Versailles, which ended World War I. Gleaming in gold and of course glass, the Hall of Mirrors is one of the most breath-taking rooms in the Château de Versailles and with its windows overlooking the palace’s immaculate gardens, it only adds to its royal history.

Every year, between the months of April and October, you are serenaded by classical music as you discover the gardens that were designed by André Le Nôtre, the gardener and architect to the king. Sunday Roast On the Left Bank overlooking the Seine and just across the street from the famous restaurant that is its haute cuisine sibling, the warm, friendly La Rotisserie de la Tour d’Argent is a terrific choice in Paris when you want some good simple French food. As many travellers to Paris know, it’s not always easy to find a great place for a meal on Saturday and Sunday nights, and it’s also a chore to eat well if you happen to be hungry outside of regular serving hours. That’s another reason why this recently redecorated restaurant is such a welcome address. They’re open seven days a week and serve from 9.30am to 10.30pm during the week, and from 10am to 10.30pm on the weekends. Dining here on a recent Sunday night, the service was efficient and good-natured, and the room with its bentwood chairs, open kitchen and stencilled tile floor was a perfect postcard of Paris. We started with marinated leeks and garlicky snails, and then shared a succulent spit-roasted shoulder of lamb for two that was served with silky potato puree and sautéed baby vegetables. They offer an excellent cheese plate, including Comte that’s been aged for 36 months, or try the millefeuille or the lemon tart. Bistro Dining Anyone who wonders if Paris is still the western world’s capital of gastronomy would do well to head for a meal at Detour, a tiny bistro a ten-minute walk from the Opera Garnier and the big department stores in the heart of Paris. Why? This place isn’t about the gilding-the-lily extravagance often associated with French cooking in the English speaking world. Instead, it’s the home of young chef Adrien Cachot, an emerging talent who previously cooked at La Cantine du Troquet, Le Petit Pan and Le Saint James in Bouilac in southwestern France. Armed with this impressive background, he’s gone out on his own with a very sweet modern French bistro that’s also one of the best buys in town right now. The 32-€ prix-fixe menu changes often, but it offers a superb discovery of Cachot’s edgy cooking and a delicious insight into modern French cooking. Dining here with a friend recently, we began with a fascinating and surprisingly toothsome dish of sea snails, beets, béarnaise sauce and a refreshing salad of shaved white asparagus with grapefruit segments, a coddled egg and pieces of crunchy herbal biscuit. Next a perfectly cooked piece of cod steak with white bean sauce for me and beef ribs with leeks and onions pickles for my friend. Desserts were wonderful and very original, too, and included avocado cream with chocolate ice-cream, and cocoa crumbs and vanilla-brightened polenta with dried fruit and caramel sauce. French Dining Nestled in the Les Halles neighbourhood, Au Pied de Cochon is a Parisian institution. It was the first establishment in the city to open 24 hours a day, serving regular folk and celebrities at all hours of the day, and now Au Pied de Cochon is back, after a few tweaks, to take back its throne of being the place to go to for a hearty meal at 10pm or at 4am. The traditional French brasserie serves authentic French fare, including beef tartare, rib steak served with fries and the house specialty, grilled pigs’ feet served with Béarnaise sauce and fries. The brasserie isn’t very vegetarian-friendly with only a couple of dishes, including the French onion soup and a green bean salad dressed with a mustard vinaigrette, on the menu, however, the convivial ambiance makes this famous brasserie worth a visit. - S.I. Seafood in the French Capital Located in a well-heeled corner of the 8th arrondissement, La Marée is a gracious, long-running restaurant with an elegant décor of wood-panelling and windows with diamond-paned stained glass inserts and is a terrific address for seafood lovers. This is because Paris is the best city in Europe for anyone who loves fine quality fish and shellfish, because the French capital is supplied daily by ports in Brittany, Normandy, the Charente-Maritime, the Basque Country and also various harbours on France’s Mediterranean coast. But it’s also explained by the fact that the kitchen here knows that the best fish should be cooked simply to avoid overwhelming its delicious natural tastes and iodine-rich succulence. Start with some smoked organic Irish salmon, a sauté of baby squid or some fish soup, and then tuck into steamed turbot steak with potato mousseline and salted butter, baked cod with eggplant or a sole meunière for two. Don’t miss their famous millefeuille, or perhaps the excellent baba au rhum, sponge cake with sugar syrup, whipped cream and lashings of good rum from Martinique. Service is outstanding, and this is as good an address for business meals as it is a tête-à-tête over lunch or dinner. DINNER WITH A View

Even after living in Paris for thirty years, the Eiffel Tower still delights me as much everyday as it did the first time I saw it as a thirteenyear-old boy visiting the French capital for the first time from New England. That being said, when South African friends came to town recently and invited me to join them at Le 58 Tour Eiffel Restaurant, I met that night with tempered expectations. Why? Well, in my experience, the restaurants with the best views in the world’s great cities usually offer a better panorama than they do a good feed, because tourists mainly frequent them. Arriving, however, I was impressed by both the welcome at the restaurant and the décor of the dining room, appropriately low-lit at night and offering some sweeping vistas over the city. Dining here in the evening, you have a choice between a set menu and à la carte, and the dishes offered all sounded wonderful, at least on paper anyway. My friends chose the set menu, and I ordered à la carte, and over champagne we caught up after not having seen each other for a long time. They were thrilled to be in Paris, and suddenly I was equally thrilled when my first course arrived, generously served slices of lightly smoked salmon with mixed peppercorns, fromage blanc with candied ginger and a

citrus sauce, it was delicious. As was my roasted cod with spelt risotto, green asparagus and champagne sauce, a big fresh perfectly cooked piece of fish in a delicate sauce spiked by the famous French wine. Eyeing my friends’ plates, they were eating very well, too, foie gras with cherry and Szechuan pepper chutney, grilled scallops with baby peas and carrots, roast lamb with potatoes Anna, eggplant caviar, fried courgette flowers and a butter sauce made with smoked soy sauce. The wines that are included with dinner were very good and frequently poured, too, and service from a delightful waitress who speaks four languages and who had previously worked at the Hôtel Le Bristol was attentive and charming. I finished up with a fine cheese plate, and they tucked into chocolate cake with vanilla ice-cream and raspberries. All told, it was a delightful evening and a very good meal, especially given the constraints of cooking for large numbers of people in a kitchen with no gas, and this experience just goes to show that sometimes tourists are actually much shrewder about tracking down a good address than the locals are. Reservations are essential, there are two dinner seatings, and you must come with a photo ID to first pick up your tickets and then gain access to the lift. – A.L.

Priscilla, Queen of the Desert The flamboyant Priscilla has made it to Paris all the way from the Australian outback. Based on the Australian movie, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, this award-winning musical has taken over the Casino de Paris with a colourful show that sees three friends go on the road trip of their lives. With an impressive stage set, complete with the iconic bus, and a musical medley of Australian pop princess Kylie Minogue’s famous hits, this is one of the best musicals to hit the French capital in a long time. Love and Pride Drama, love and friendship make the famous opera of Eugene Onegin one of the most heartbreaking stories ever told. Based on the verse novel written by Alexander Pushkin in 1878, the Tchaikovsky-scored opera tells the story of Eugene Onegin, a rich Russian playboy, who inadvertently ends his friendship with Vladimir Lensky with irreversible consequences, and how his arrogance stood in the way of a romance between the timid Tatyana and himself. Performing on the 5th and the 6th, Bruno is bringing his 24K Magic World Tour to Paris where he will be performing his songs from his hit album 24K Magic including his chart topper of the same name. The Arena is then welcoming Phil Collins to its stage where the English singer is bringing his Not Dead Yet Live Tour. Performing from the 18th to the 23rd, Collins is billed to perform some of his greatest hits on the Parisian leg of his tour that is also taking him to Liverpool, London, Cologne and Dublin. Meanwhile, over at the La Cigale concert hall an interesting line-up of singers is

scheduled to perform live. First up is one of the original boy bands, Hanson, who are bringing their Middle of Everywhere Tour. On the 5th you can catch the three brothers perform their biggest hits as part of their 25th anniversary tour marking the 25 years since the release of their first record, Middle of Nowhere.

A Legend is Reborn The legendary Les Bains was the Parisian club that saw the entertainment and fashion worlds’ biggest names spend their evenings at, drinking, dancing and simply being seen. Paris Metro Paris is crossed by 14 Métro lines and five RER (express suburban) lines, all numbered and named for their final destination (terminus). Did you know that there are 300 stations that make up Paris’ metro system?

Each Métro trip requires one ticket regardless of how many transfers you make, though you must buy an extra ticket for the RER outside the city limits. Keep your ticket until you exit.

Tickets are sold in all stations and in cafés (tabacs) with a ticket sign outside, single (1.90€/2€ if purchased on a bus) or by 10 (un carnet - 14.50€). This map includes the new tramway line.

“Paris Visite” passes offer unlimited travel on the Métro and buses (1-day, 2-day, 3-day, 5-day). The Métro and RER start running at 5:30am, and stop around 1 am.
