Run by a Michelin-starred chef and open for dinner only, the restaurant is located at The Phoenician and its patio is set high above the Valley below.

rom Japanese cuisine inside an 1899 bungalow in Phoenix’s Heritage Square to oysters in a 1910 haunted home in Tempe, Phoenix’s dining scene is eclectic, even down to its properties.

Many popular eateries are located in adaptive reuse projects, and these seven Valley restaurants chose historic homes in which to attract their foodie following.

James Beard Award-winner Nobuo Fukuda plates modern Japanese cuisine inside an 1899 wood-floored bungalow in downtown Phoenix’s Heritage Square at Nobu at Teeter House (622 E. Adams St., 602.254.0600. www. nobufukuda.com). The Pyramid Cottage-style, single-family home was built by Leon Bouvier, and later home to Eliza Teeter. Inside the cozy rooms, diners are treated to innovative and artistically presented dishes. For Nobuo’s multi-course omakase, reservations are required two weeks in advance.

Robert and Robin Trick purchased and remodeled a 1920s bungalow near ASU’s Gammage and Mill avenues, and opened House of Tricks (114 E. 7th St., Tempe, 480.968.1114. www.houseoftricks.com) in 1987 as one of Tempe’s first fine-dining establishments. In 1994, House of Tricks doubled in size with the purchase of the neighboring 1903 adobe brick home. A tree-covered outdoor patio and bar link the two properties. The contemporary American, seasonally inspired menu features affordable lunch entrées and upscale dinner options, with an award-winning selection of wines spanning 300 labels and 30 wines by the glass.

A historic adobe home sets the foundation for the Southwestern dining destination Old Town Tortilla Factory (6910 E. Main St., 480.945.4567. www.oldtowntortillafactory.com).

Choose a seat inside or outside on the expansive flagstone patio shaded by 100-yearold pecan trees. Warm tortillas, served in place of dinner rolls, are handmade daily, and the margaritas are a favorite accompaniment to any meal.

French bistro Coup Des Tartes (1725 E. Osborn Road, 602.212.1082. www.nicetartes.com) first opened 18 years ago on 16th Street and Highland Avenue, before relocating into its current renovated home along Osborn Road.

Dine in one of six cozy rooms, at a bar built with remnants of the old location, or outside on the brick patio. A separate, private dining space and kitchen is host to a myriad of events, and eclectic décor is found throughout the entire property. The elegant, French-inspired bistro has collected an array of awards throughout the years.

Coup Des Tartes

Pizza lovers return time and time again for Cibo Pizzeria’s (603 N. 5th Ave., 602.441.2697. www.cibophoenix.com) artisanal, Neapolitanstyle pizzas and made-in-house pastas. The pizzeria is set inside a restored 1913 bungalow in downtown Phoenix, featuring exposed brick walls, hardwood floors, and a cozy patio.

A separate carriage house is available for private rentals.

Nestled in Old Town Scottsdale, dine on a quaint patio or inside the 1920s bungalow trimmed with Victorian-era-inspired décor at The House Brasserie (6936 E. Main St., 480.634.1600. www.thehousebrasserie.com).

The modern American fare here features global twists, like the Atlantic halibut with vegetables, kumquat and curry jus; or the lamb Bolognese with cavatelli, herbwhipped ricotta, olives and tomatoes.

Pima Road, 480.278.7044. www.marketstreet kitchen.com), and you’ll be served a creation that inclues rosé wine, rum, peach brandy, iced tea, lemon juice, sparkling wine, tea syrup, and a variety of grilled and chopped fruits—in a French press. The press is then served along with glasses of ice ($24; serves 4).

At La Hacienda at Fairmont Scottsdale Princess (7575 E. Princess Drive, 480.585.2694. www.scottsdale princess.com), the drinks are on fire.

Literally. Well, at least the famous Bebidas de Fuego (flaming coffees; six are on the menu). The server begins with Bacardi 151 and then caramelizes the glass—a cinnamon-sugar mixture creates big Instagram-worthy flames ($14).

Bitter & Twisted Cocktail Parlour (1 W. Jefferson St., 602.340.1924. www.bitterandtwistedaz.com) has garnered numerous local and national awards for its creative drinks, and one favorite is the Taste the Rainbow.

Made with house-infused Kaffir lime gin and sloe gin packed with fresh lime, pineapple and strawberry, and given a good shake to awaken the flavors, this candy shop drink is finished with rainbow dust ($12).

Enjoy a bloody Mary with a twist at SanTan Brewing Company (8 S. San Marcos Place, Chandler, 480.917.8700. www.santanbrewing.com). The SanTan Bacon Bloody Mary is made with vodka steeped in house-smoked chipotle-rubbed bacon and topped with a float of Gordo stout, then garnished with a smoked chipotle salted rim and green onion ($5.75).
