VALLEY OF FIRE STATE PARK Head 55 miles northwest of Las Vegas on Interstate 15 to find Valley of Fire State Park and its red Aztec sandstone formations set against gray and tan limestone mountains, hidden canyons and petroglyphs from 2,500 years ago. In 1934, it became Nevada’s first state park.

RHYOLITE Right on the edge of Death Valley National Park sits Rhyolite, a bona fide ghost town.

In 1904, claims of gold in the neighboring rocks turned Rhyolite into a bustling community with more than 2,000 claims in the area. The town sits 120 miles north of Las Vegas near Beatty, Nevada.

HOOVER DAM The 726-foot tall, arch-gravity Hoover Dam is one of the engineering wonders of

the world and sits just outside Boulder City, with the Colorado River on one side spilling into Lake Mead on the other.

RED ROCK CANYON Find stunning red rock formations nestled up against the Spring Mountains just 15 miles west of Las Vegas. A thrust fault created the 3,000-foot walls of the canyon that attract hikers, bikers and rock climbers.

BONNIE SPRINGS Just 20 miles west of Las Vegas near Red Rock Canyon, this cattle ranch built in the 1940s features an Old West town that brings gunfights and horseback riding back. A children’s petting zoo and rides on a miniature train keep the kids busy.

Grab a bite to eat at the quirky little restaurant that serves sandwiches, hot pies and burgers.

People-watching in Sin City goes to the next level with a collection of interesting spots, attractions and more making it easy to view streams of tourists roaming the city. People come here to let down their inhibitions and be whoever they aren’t in their everyday lives— free of judgment. Here, a round up of some of the best spots in Las Vegas to do some people-watching.

The High Roller

THE LINQ PROMENADE Head to this open-air entertainment district at the center of the Strip for people-watching mixed with a little retail and dining.

Sit on the patio at Chayo Mexican Kitchen & Tequila Bar and drink a margarita while scanning the crowd, or head to Virgil’s Real BBQ for some ribs with that view.

Of course, for the ultimate people-watching, head to the High Roller, the world’s tallest observation wheel, for a view of the action from 550 feet in the air. Coming soon, Fly Linq with 10 side-by-side ziplines flying over the promenade.

FREMONT STREET EXPERIENCE The people found on the Fremont Street Experience in Downtown Las Vegas might make up some of the best characters in Las Vegas.

Head up to Troy Liquor Bar at the Golden Nugget to look down on the crowds, wander the five-block pedestrian mall as one of the free live bands plays or watch the shows on the VivaVision canopy that’s lit up with 12.5 million lights

CARNAVAL COURT Head over to the space between Harrah’s and The Linq for Carnaval Court, the open-air nightclub with its live music pumping out all day and night. If the dancing and music don’t interest you for people watching, try the flair bartenders who know how to flip bottles around, or try your hand at the blackjack tables.

THE PARK Walk over to the west side of the Strip for The Park, the open-air play area between New York-New York and the Park MGM, all anchored by T-Mobile Arena. Sure, before and after any concert or event, streams of people walk through, so grab a bench and let the visual parade begin. Or head to one of the restaurants such as Beerhaus, Bruxie, California Pizza Kitchen or Sake Rok on Tuesdays and Wednesdays starting at 5 pm for free live music and $5 wine, beer and shots.

Yes, please. This staple on the Strip has arguably the best people-watching views in Las Vegas with its sidewalk patio and location right across from the Fountains at Bellagio. That patio doesn’t take reservations, so get there early and wile away the afternoon with a bottle of wine.

HARMON CORNER Head up to the second floor of this retail center that sits next to the Miracle Mile Shops for patio views at Rainforest Cafe, Twin Peaks and Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. All three overlook the busy corner with its views of The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas and The Shops at Crystals.

MIRACLE MILE SHOPS The front of the shopping center at the middle of the Strip features Cabo Wabo Cantina and PBR Rock Bar & Grill, and both include a patio with front-row viewing of the shenanigans on the Strip. Grab a cold one, kick back and take in the sights.

INDOOR PATIOS Want to get out of the heat but still sit on a patio? Head to the Forum Shops at Caesars for four indoor patios that come with a view.

The Palms Everyone seems like they’re having a good time on the patio at this vaunted steakhouse. Go for a porterhouse or bone-in prime rib, add some crab cakes or a lobster tail and get ready to watch the crowds flow by.

Trevi Everything comes together at Trevi, the Italian restaurant with a massive patio that includes a view of the replica of the Fountain of the Gods. Diners with big groups can head up to the second floor for mezzanine dining with a view, while those who need a break can stop by the 28-seat oval bar. Customers can even just stop by the walk-up gelato bar offering house-made flavors created fresh daily.

A: I recommend going to downtown Las Vegas to see the old hotels and The Mob Museum. You will see how the mob helped build Las Vegas and how they became famous. It’s very interesting to see a part of history.
