SPLASH ZONE! Consider that shimmering blue body of water just outside your door as your personal playground. Paddle, ski, sail, cruise—whatever floats your boat. Leave nothing in your wake but a great time. Make waves with high-speed waterskiing and wakeboarding. Take the helm in a speedboat or sailboat. Paddleboard or kayak the Lake Tahoe Water Trail which circumnavigates the lake and has 41 launching stations. BRING IT! Hop on two wheels—pedal your way through scenic vistas and take a slow ride along South Tahoe’s legendary trails. The famed loop around the lake—America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride—winds through 72 miles of breathtaking scenery that’s perfect for a leisurely tour with friends and family. Didn’t bring your own ride? There are plenty of bike shops staffed by experts who can fit you out with an awesome set of wheels. Choose from four bike

more rugged terrain, the tandem bike that’s ideal for couples, and the bicycle with a kid-carrier for little ones not ready for their own two wheels. And for experts? Pit yourself against the world’s top cyclists, who come here to train for the Amgen Tour of California. Tackle the downhill track of Saxon Creek Trail or watch your life flash before your eyes on the Death Ride, a grueling 129-mile gauntlet that includes five mountain passes with spectacular vistas. And if by “bike” you mean Harley, not Huffy, you’re in good company: Motorcycle buffs are often spotted on South Tahoe’s open roads.

Hiking & Running

TRAIL BLAZING Stroll, wander, stride, grab a selfie with some amazing scenery: The hiking and trail-running are unbeatable. South Tahoe is crisscrossed by an extensive network of trails that wind through pine-scented woods and up slopes of glacier-carved granite. Take an easy loop along Lake Tahoe's shoreline, visit a 100-foot waterfall or summit a 10,000-foot peak. If you’re hungry for rugged adventure, grab a backpack and head out for a few days of sweet backcountry solitude. And if you have an appetite for mouthwatering vistas, spectacular views are found all along the 165 miles of the Tahoe Rim Trail. There are

day and overnight hikes in abundance, not to mention mountain bike and equestrian access. In winter, strap on your snowshoes and head out into the bracing chill to take in the gorgeous views of the lake—there’s always a hot toddy waiting for you when you get back. Continued on page 10

Family Fun

PLAY DATE Kids can use their outdoor voices in this year-round family playground. Turn your kids loose on Tahoe. They’ll burn up that energy biking by the lake, swimming, hiking or soaring through the forest on a zip line or mountain coaster. Get their toes in the sand or up in the air above a parasail boat, up a climbing wall or through a ropes course. Then take in an evening magic show. When the temperature drops, the fun heats up. Kids can get schooled on the slopes with expert instructors. There’s ice-skating, snow tubing, sledding and plenty of hot chocolate for a quick warm-up. Hungry yet? Take the gang to an all-you-can-eat buffet or family-friendly restaurant. Note to parents: Need a little alone time? Check (LEFT) COURTESY OF CAMP RICHARDSON HISTORIC RESORT

Skiing & Snowboarding

Sometimes you just gotta strap a board to your feet and send yourself hurtling down a snow-covered mountain. At Tahoe South we're happy to oblige your quest for winter adrenaline rushes. And with 40 feet of snow and 300 days of sun a year, conditions are optimal for your winter skiing or snowboarding trip. We’ve got world-class ski resorts and acres of backcountry trails, so you can glide down groomed slopes or take a cross-country tour of the winter woods. Oh, and après-ski? None of this loungingsedately-with-hot-chocolate stuff—in Tahoe South, you can cap off your day on the slopes with a night on the town. With nightclubs that are going strong into the wee hours, you may not get much chance for resting those tired legs. That’s just how we roll.

Winter Fun

Winter Recreation Grab a spiked hot cocoa, a handful of snow and embrace the chill at Tahoe South. Starting as early as mid-November, Tahoe South is transformed into a snow-covered winter wonderland. History & Heritage

BLAST FROM THE PAST From the Pony Express to Gilded Age resorts, Tahoe South is rich in history and lore. Picture it: a 100-foot barge floating out on Lake Tahoe with a full orchestra entertaining the guests on board. No, it’s not the party scene from “The Godfather Part II.” It’s a flashback to the 1880s, when Lucky Baldwin’s opulent hotel–casino attracted the rich and famous to Tahoe’s shores. Today you can stroll the grounds of Baldwin’s former digs at Tallac Historic Site or enjoy a concert in the Boathouse Theatre with Lake Tahoe as the backdrop.
