JUDGES Joseph M. Goryeb

Joseph M. Goryeb, former principal of Champion Mortgage Co., Inc., uses his more than 40 years entrepreneurial, sales, management and financial services experience to help non-profits and other companies achieve high level performance. Goryeb has been a regular speaker at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business on the topics of growing a successful family business and maximizing a company’s leadership success by taking care of its greatest asset: its people.

Along with his family, Goryeb helped grow Champion Mortgage into one of the largest retail mortgage lenders in the country. Champion was named by INC. Magazine as “One of the 500 Fastest Growing Privately Held Companies” in the US for three consecutive years. It was also named as one of the “10 Best Companies to Work For” by The Business Journal of New Jersey. As Co-President/COO, Goryeb was responsible for overseeing Sales, Marketing and Loan Operations as well as setting the strategic direction of the company. Champion was regarded as having the finest reputation and corporate culture in the mortgage banking industry. He played a major role in the company’s success, including its acquisition in 1997 by KeyCorp.

Active in the community, Goryeb and his family worked closely with Morristown Medical Center, contributing the seed money that resulted in the Goryeb Children’s Hospital which opened in 2002. Occupying three floors and approximately 85,000 square feet, the hospital has created a safe haven for children and their families who need treatment ranging from short stay procedures to special care for the critically ill. It has attracted top doctors from around the country to bring the best care possible to Morristown. Goryeb also holds the title of ChairmanEmeritus after serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for MPAC for eight years. He has been a Board Trustee for over twenty years previously chairing the building committee which oversaw the completion of three major renovations of the Theatre, transforming it into one of the premier Performing Arts Centers in the area. His love of the arts started when his parents bought him his first guitar at the age of 12. He has been playing ever since and was previously in a band with his wife, Jeanne.

Goryeb, retired, lives in Morristown NJ and enjoys spending time with, Jeanne, their four boys, daughter in laws and grandkids.
