A TIMELESS Mission
Morristown ONSTAGE is the Morris Educational Foundation’s biggest annual event fundraiser and enables our mission to enhance educational excellence for the 5,700 students and 1,000 educators in the 10 schools of the Morris School District. A big thank you to Morristown Medical Center, the Headline Sponsor of Morristown ONSTAGE, and our many sponsors, advertisers and donors who support this event and our mission. We are also very appreciative of the people that made this show possible by giving their time and talents: MOS 2023 Committee, MEF Trustees, MHS Broadcasting Club, MPAC and the many others involved in putting on an outstanding show. PERFORMERS
The Gypsy Souls
The four men who make up The Gypsy Souls have a love for all things rock-n-roll, especially music from the late sixties. Their influences include Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton. Tony, the bass player, was born and raised here in Morristown, attended Morristown High School, and his bandmates work here and play here! They each began dabbling in music from a young age; one of these band members remembers turning his parents’ Tupperware into a makeshift drum set! They’ve had meaningful guidance along the way, whether it came from their music teachers, or from the School of Rock, or just getting together for a jam session. Tonight, they will be performing an original song called “Can’t Get You Off My Mind”, and it promises to get the crowd on its feet!
Sanjna Vel
This 14-year-old will be performing “New York State of Mind” vocally, as well as on the piano. Sanjna is a native of Morris Plains, attended Mountain Way and Borough School, before moving onto Morristown High. She began her musical journey at the age of four, when she started piano lessons and classical Indian vocal training.
In her spare time, Sanjna enjoys running cross country, is a black belt in taekwondo, and dabbles in art; she’s even sold a number of her pieces to raise money for a local charity. Sanjna planned to perform her song on the piano only, but a teacher convinced her to sing along, and that, she says, is how her act came together.
Noel & Naomi
Noel and Naomi met at the Mayo Performing Arts Center and bonded over their shared love for music and performance. Naomi grew up in Morristown and spends her days playing the piano and volunteering for the Miracle Project here at MPAC. Noel is a high school sophomore at Gottesman Academy, but spends much of her time here in Morristown as a member of the Mayo Performing Arts Touring Company. She was diagnosed with autism two years ago, but that doesn’t stop her from performing; she says the stage can be an endless spectrum for us all to enjoy!
The two friends will be performing “For Good” from Wicked and are inspired by their friendship and love of the arts.
PERFORMERS
Jean Louis
If this crooner looks familiar, there’s a very good reason for it! Jean Louis has been driving Morristown students to and from school for the past several years, and he’s also a lunch aide at Alexander Hamilton!
Jean Louis came to America from Haiti at the age of twentythree and since then, met the love of his life, got married, and became father to his two sons. Aside from his duties for the school district, Jean Louis is a freelance photographer, enjoys using his drone and drives a limousine for the Broadway Elite company in East Hanover. Tonight, he will be singing Julio Iglesias’ “Viens M’Embrasser”.
Zaira Soriano
This bubbly eight-year-old is a third grader at Assumption School. She loves to sing, enjoys drawing and reading books. And this is not her first rodeo: Zaira has already performed at venues including the Triad Theatre, Green Room 42, and Citifield!
Tonight, Zaira will be performing “The Girl in 14G” and hopes to continue her musical journey through education and diversifying herself as an artist. She credits her cousin Shan and music teacher for introducing her to the arts.
Ella Lindner
Ella was born and raised here in Morristown, and will be channeling the Queen of Soul as she performs Aretha Franklin’s “Natural Woman”. Ella has had a love for vocal performance since a very young age, and is grateful for the constant encouragement she has received all her life from her family.
Ella has been a student of both Morristown High as well as Fusion Academy and credits the voice coaches she has had throughout the years–from Temple B’nai Or, to the chorus teachers from the Morris School District. Her musical influences include Aretha, Jennifer Hudson, Lauryn Hill and Ella Fitzgerald.
Ella has been a student of both Morristown High as well as
PERFORMERS
The Mountain Jam Band
The men of The Mountain Jam Band have one goal and one goal only: to honor the tradition of the Allman Brothers and their blues-based improvisational music. The group, comprised of Morristown’s Frank Saia, Chris Pott and Ryan Guthrie, along with Stu Margulis and John McCormack, formed this band more than a year ago, with each bringing a diverse musical skillset. They are performing the Allman Brothers’ “Soulshine”, which is described as an uplifting song of hope that embodies the spirit of the Morris Educational Foundation. It may come as no surprise that these talented musicians name the Allman Brothers as their musical influence, citing their overall message of inclusion.
Halle Just
Halle’s foray into the world of entertainment came at the age of three when she performed in her first dance recital. Since then, Halle has made the arts her life, participating in musical theater, dance classes, voice lessons and more recently, songwriting. She says performing on stage is her favorite way to express herself!
Halle is very excited to continue her musical journey this fall as a freshman at Boston’s Berklee College of music. There, she plans to major in songwriting with a minor in musical theater. She credits her mother and cousin for being her greatest inspirations–saying she would have never stood on a stage without their support.
Diana McNiff
Diana moved to Morristown 15 years ago and has been singing and playing guitar for as long as she can remember. Tonight, she will perform an original song called “Heavy Love” that she wrote two years ago during what she describes as one of the more challenging times in her life–during the pandemic, and raising two young children with her husband.
Diana calls herself a ‘life-long learner’ and when she is not behind the mic, she is working toward her professional certification as an astrological consultant. Diana recorded her debut album entitled Playing in the Grays back in 2020, and is excited to get back to performing after a long pandemic hibernation!
PERFORMERS
Allie & Sydney
Allie and Sydney have been long-time dance partners who became inseparable best friends, and have dreamed of performing together. Tonight is their chance to shine as they perform an acro-dance routine to the songs “Fall into Me and “Code Red”. They describe it as a depiction of good versus evil in the world.
Allie is a senior at Morristown High, while Sydney attends Hanover Park High School. They began choreographing this performance back in the fall, while taking technique classes to improve their skills. They both name each other as their inspiration, and credit their teachers from Amanda’s Dance Xtensions for guiding and supporting them on this journey. They describe tonight as a dream come true and are excited to share the stage together!
Gina Marie
Gina Marie is a long time resident of Morris County, and has worked for Bayer Healthcare for the past 15 years. She loves Morristown because of its rich history, community and strong education–her son is currently a student at Assumption School.
Gina Marie’s love for music dates back to her days as a wedding singer; she gives praise to all the divas: Barbara, Bette, Whitney, Celine, Mariah and Lady Gaga. She will be performing “Wind Beneath My Wings” from the movie Beaches, and will no doubt be thinking of her best friend and hero, her mother.
New Love City
Malachi and Glenn have been best friends since they were teenagers. They turned their shared love for music into reality when they each got an acoustic guitar. After spending time in formal lessons, the duo decided it was time to write their own songs. Fast forward several years, Malachi and Glenn became roommates and honed their musical skills while balancing jobs, family, social lives and a host of other adventures. They have a love and passion for everything about Morristown. They first took the MPAC stage back in 2020, and had a thirst for returning. Tonight, these Morristown residents will perform an original song entitled “Cookies”, and call this opportunity a story of redemption and revival.
PERFORMERS
MHS Spectrum Jazz Ensemble
The MHS Spectrum Jazz Ensemble has been part of the MHS landscape for the past four decades, with new members coming and going each year. This fantastic group of talented musicians began playing together at the start of the school year and are very excited to perform “Feeling Good” by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newly; the version you likely know is the one sung by Michael Buble!
There are twenty-two students performing this year, ranging in ages 14-18, and are accomplished on instruments including the trombone, saxophone, trumpet and piano. They’re led by their musical director, Tim Beadle. Many of them cite some of the greats as their musical influences like Duke Ellington and Ronnie Cuber as well as Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald and Dean Martin.
Performers: Jafet Alvarado Martinez, Tim Beadle, Matthew Bozza, Phillip Byrne, Julia Cama, Louis De Leòn, Eli Diringer, Zachary Diringer, Garrett Gregor, Pedro Guillen, Caden Janosy, Jason Marella, Bobby McLoughlin, Audrey Miller, Henry Mruz, Aiden Orbeta, Eric Ottaiano, Santiago Rios Guarin, Anthony Samms, Nicholas Schachter, Shaan Thakker, Henry Yip
