Distinguished Alumni Award
David Holub 1970 of Sioux City received this award from the Morningside College Alumni Association. He was a member of the Morningside College Alumni Association Board from 1995 to 2012, most recently as president. A senior vice president at Security National Bank in Sioux City, Holub also has served as a board member for Boys and Girls Home and Family Services, The Alpha Center and Siouxland Chamber of Commerce. Wert Award
Dr. Jack Hill, associate professor of psychology, received the Lucille and Charles Wert Faculty Award, which recognizes the faculty member judged by his or her peers to best exemplify the ideals of the academic teaching profession at Morningside.
HONORARY DOCTORATES
Lin Benchun, former president of Hwa Nan Women’s College in Fuzhou, China, received an honorary doctorate in recognition of his assistance with renewing ties between Hwa Nan Women’s College and Morningside College. A Morningside graduate was involved with the founding of Hwa Nan in 1908, and the first three Hwa Nan presidents were Morningside graduates. Lin served as a visiting instructor at Morningside this spring. See the story on page 10.
The Hon. Jack K. Mandel, chairman of the board for the Nicholas Education Foundation in Santa Ana, Calif., and a retired Orange County (California) Superior Court judge, received an honorary doctorate for his work with high school students in Santa Ana, Calif. He is co-founder of the Nicholas Academic Centers in Santa Ana, which provide mentoring and tutoring programs that help inner-city high school students overcome poverty and social restrictions to attend college and earn four-year degrees. Ten Santa Ana high school graduates who were part of the Nicholas Academic Centers program are enrolled at Morningside.

Andre McWell, director of the Student Success program, which helps first-year students make the transition into college. Staff Member of the Year Sherry (Streyffeler) Swan 1984, administrative assistant for the religious studies, history and political science, philosophy, and theatre and dance departments.
