At Morgan State, you’ll learn from faculty who are leaders and active researchers in their fields. Faculty in the School of Community Health & Policy, for example, include Dr. Bahram Faraji, Associate Professor in the Nutritional Science program. Dr. Faraji was honored as a Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics in recognition of a lifetime of service to the profession. Nursing Director Dr. Maija Anderson was selected as a member of the Leadership Consortium for Nursing Practice and Education, which brings together leaders in the field for the purpose of enhancing the nursing profession. Here, you’ll benefit from faculty mentorship and exposure to ongoing research and professional development in a range of health issues.

Career Preparation Graduates of the School of Community Health & Policy often find career opportunities in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, non-profit organizations, law offices and universities. While nursing students graduate prepared to take the qualifying nursing exam, students in the Nutritional Sciences program often find positions in healthcare facilities and food service and management.

Further Study Our graduates often go on to pursue advanced studies in their fields. Within the School of Community Health & Policy, we offer master’s degrees and doctoral programs in both nursing and public health.

Community-based learning experiences are central to the Bachelor of Science programs offered within the School of Community Health & Policy at Morgan State University. Here you can earn your bachelor’s degree in one of two

distinct programs of study: nursing and nutritional

science. Both programs address urban health and

health disparity issues through practice-based health instruction, research, and service projects. Plus,

you’ll benefit from state-of-the-art facilities like our fully equipped nursing simulation lab and

our commercial kitchen, where nutritional science

students apply scientific methods to solve problems in food experimentation and safety.

join a group of health professionals who are making

a noticeable difference in the lives of the individuals, families, and communities they serve.

Morgan State is home to the ASCEND Center for Biomedical Research, funded by a $23.3 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

The program aims to train undergraduate biomedical researchers to address the root causes of health disparity issues through entrepreneurship.

COMMUNITY-BASED LEARNING

As an undergraduate, you’ll benefit from real-world training with our community partners. Partnering entities include state and local health departments, community-based service and advocacy organizations, hospitals, and community health centers, among others. These partnerships provide you with the practical, professional experience you need for a career in your chosen field.

NUTRITIONAL SCIENCES

The Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing at Morgan State provides a sound foundation for further graduate study. Through theory and clinical practice, you’ll develop and expand your nursing skills and knowledge to enable you to provide quality healthcare. You’ll also train to qualify for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nursing (NCLEXRN). Master’s degree concentrations in Nursing Leadership and Management and Nursing Education are available, should you choose to pursue an advanced degree at Morgan State.

The Bachelor of Science degree in Nutritional Sciences at Morgan State focuses on the growing field of dietetics. You’ll study the science of nutrient metabolism; medical nutrition therapy for various diseases and conditions; food habits and customs of various populations; food preparation and safety; and health promotion and disease prevention. With additional internship training, you can prepare to qualify to become a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist (RDN).

The Nutritional Sciences Program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics.
