Learn about our world from renowned Fulbright scholars such as Dr. Muhammad Quibria, who studies global finance, micro-lending, and economics; or with Dr. James Lee III, who studies the music and culture of the diaspora; or with Dr. Max Hilaire, a scholar of politics, diplomacy, and international relations; or with Dr. M’bare N’gom, a language expert who has focused on global engagement.

Take a different approach to understanding the persons and the forces that have shaped human history, including our world’s philosophies, religions, languages, or literatures, with Dr. Seth Vannatta of Philosophy and Religious Studies, Dr. Takkara Brunson of History, Dr. Elizabeth Gunn of World Languages, or Dr. Jennifer Williams of English and Language Arts.

Examine climate change through geography with the innovative perspective of Dr. Mark Barnes, Geographer. Go inside the human mind and societal relationships with our award-winning social science faculty, including Psychology’s Dr. Jocelyn Turner-Musa, or Sociology’s Dr. Natasha Pratt-Harris, who examines criminal justice. Learn the methods and practice of digital storytelling with award-winning screenwriting faculty, including M.K. Asante and Keith Mehlinger, as well as a roster of professional filmmakers. Allow music to be your passport to the world; study and sing with director Dr. Eric Conway and the internationally-renowned Morgan State University Choir.

THE COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS

Critical thinking is central to the degree programs offered within the College of Liberal Arts at Morgan State University. Here, you can select from 15 majors and 21 minors within the humanities,

social and behavioral sciences, fine and performing arts, or the military sciences. You’ll develop your

analytical and writing skills alongside student-focused faculty while you prepare for a career or advanced study within your chosen field.

Exceptional Facilities The College of Liberal Arts is housed in

several buildings, including Morgan State’s

The department also offers a major in Screenwriting and Animation (SWAN). SWAN students focus in Computer Animation (and Interactive Media); Film and Television Writing (Screenwriting); and Integrated Media Writing (Screenwriting) and Animation. As a SWAN major, you’ll prepare for a career in the entertainment industry, broadcasting, e-business, and educational and corporate media fields.

FINE AND PERFORMING ARTS

The Department of Fine and Performing Arts offers degrees in Music, Theatre Arts, and Visual Arts. As a Music major, you can choose to focus on performance or earn a teaching certificate. Three areas of undergraduate instruction include Keyboard Studies, Instrumental Studies, and Vocal Studies.

As a Theatre Arts major, you’ll gain a Theatre Arts education in directing, acting, designing, and writing for the theatre. As a Visual Arts student, you can select a focus in Art History, Graphic Design, Illustration, or Multi-Media.

The Department of World Language and International Studies offers a curriculum that prepares you for life in the Global Century. You may pursue a minor or certificate of proficiency in French or Spanish, or take courses in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Latin, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swahili, Wolof, and Yoruba.

At the James E. Lewis Museum of Art, you’ll find exhibits by renowned artists and selections from our world-class art collection, ranging from African sculpture to European works on canvas.
