NDHSAA TOURNAMENT CODE OF CONDUCT PURPOSE: To elevate standards of Good Sportsmanship and to encourage the growth of responsible citizenship among the students, member schools and their personnel. Fundamentals of Good Sportsmanship 1. Know, appreciate and understand the rules of the contest. 2. Show respect for the officials. Good Sportsmanship implies the willingness to accept and abide by the decisions of the officials. 3. Show respect for the opponent at all times. Good Sportsmanship is the Golden Rule in action. 4. Recognize and appreciate the skill of performance regardless of team affiliation. 5. Maintain self control at all times. Good Sportsmanship is a responsibility of all who are involved in the game. 6. Show a positive attitude in cheering, refraining from intimidation or negative cheering. Good Sportsmanship is cheering your own team “on to victory.”

Acts of Misconduct 1. Throwing of any object onto the playing floor or in the stands. 2. Behavior deemed dangerous or which interferes with the rights of others to watch the game. 3. Possessing, consuming or being under the influence of chemicals. 4. Use of obscene, profane or abusive language or gestures, signs, posters or banners which show disrespect for opponent’s team, officials, cheerleaders, band or other performing groups. 5. The use of noisemakers. 6. Entry onto the playing surface at any time. THESE ACTS OF MISCONDUCT WILL NOT BE TOLERATED AND WILL RESULT IN AUTOMATIC REMOVAL WITHOUT REFUND OF ADMISSION.

Coach’s Comments Thoughts On The Season: The Tornadoes have established a great work ethic and fast paced attack during the regular season schedule. We have had to be prepared for every game this season as our region has many quality teams. We know what it takes to compete with the best teams every night. Our success will come from execution and taking care of the basketball along with tough defense and strong rebounding. It will be important for us to work together and trust each other in the daily process to compete and play hard for 32 minutes.

In order to be successful in the tournament, we need to continue to play defense with high intensity and focus on forcing tough shots right from the opening tip. Offensively, we need to limit our turnovers and value possessions. Playing with confidence and believing in themselves and each other will be keys for the Tornadoes at tournament time. I am excited to see where our team can go in the always tough Region 2 tournament.

Coach’s Comments Thoughts On The Season: As a growing young team, our success on any given night has been viewed more with growth and improvement over wins. Overall, I believe our team has done that. There has been lots of highs and lows, but our girls continue to battle night in and night out, regardless of the score. We will continue to get better, and I am proud of how far we have come as a team!

Other keys include continuing to use defensive energy to help the flow of the offense. If we can continue to beat teams to the floor, hustling after loose balls, and communicating defensively, we will give our team a chance to be successful.

Thoughts On The Season:

The Spoilers had a lot of fun, learned a lot about themselves and established nice TEAM growth throughout the regular season. The team's approach was about the day by day work, energy and competitive spirit with the attitude of trying to be as consistent as they could be as a team. The girls look forward to putting that same team mentality to the test during their tournament run. It's a group that's been familiar with each other and the Spoiler culture, they have done a great job of bringing the best versions of themselves in their roles. It will be important for the girls to continue to bring their competitive spirits, be consistent and have a lot of fun doing it together.

Coach’s Comments Thoughts On The Season: Region 2 showed again the quality of teams that we have by making it a season with good competition. The girls played hard and did a good job trying to utilize our speed on both sides of the ball. This team has really come together and is a close knit group. They have each others back and are there for one another. They push each other in practice and that helps us in games. We prided ourselves on playing well defensively throughout the year. This team has provided constant positive encouragement for one another throughout practices and games. They have been a fun team to get the opportunity to coach.

Being able to execute and take care of the basketball, along with playing well defensively and rebounding will be keys for us to see success in the postseason. Thoughts On The Season: We have a lot of young girls who have never seen the varsity floor and two new coaches. Going into the season we knew this would be a rebuilding year and we looked to our upperclassmen to help with forming the new culture and program of the HCV Girls' Basketball team. This season has not been a dream of wins but the girls have improved immensely. It has been fun seeing them grow not only in stats but as athletes. The girls have improved their confidence and knowledge of the game. The girls bring energy to practice and the games. We have girls jumping out of their seats and actively cheering. The biggest thing to take away from this season is that our girls do not quit, they work hard until the final buzzer.

To be successful in the tournaments we need to stay calm, confident, and want the ball. We talk about the difference from wanting the ball and just going after the ball. When we want the ball we are sprinting and diving after it so that the other team is not getting it. We need to play all 4 quarters strong and not give up when the tiredness sets in. The girls know what they are capable of and we are excited for them to show everyone else.

Coach’s Comments Thoughts On The Season: We struggled the entire season with consistency. We never put together a string of games where we rebounded, controlled the ball, and shot well. We have put together a few games where we played and competed but we've also had games where we didn't compete at a high enough level.

Keys For Tournament Success: For us to be successful we need a few things to go our way but it starts with ball control. If our turnovers get out of hand we will struggle. The other key for us is defensive rebounding. If we are to have any success we need to limit turnovers and shots for our opponents.

Coach’s Comments Thoughts On The Season: This season has provided a great opportunity for the girls to overcome obstacles and improve throughout the year. The girls have given great effort and maintained a positive attitude on a daily basis.

Keys For Tournament Success: When we are hitting our threes it opens up our offense and our backdoor cuts. We need to maintain a high intensity on defense and always attack the boards for rebounds.

Coach’s Comments Thoughts On The Season: The Eagles had a very up and down season. The girls have been playing better late in the season and continue to work hard and improve. The size difference we give up has been a challenge but girls find ways to compete staying aggressive and hustling.

Keys For Tournament Success: We need to just be us and play good team defense and stay hungry every possession. Offensively we need to be confident shooting, take what defense gives us and keep moving.

We have had our ups and downs, but overall have been able to compete more this year with the experience we gained last season. Thoughts On The Season: Region 2 had a lot of parity during the regular season which should make for a great tournament. The Tommies continued to grow as a team throughout the season, receiving contributions from veteran players and a handful of newcomers building good team depth. An aggressive defensive attack along with improved offensive efficiency have been key components to their season.

Keys For Tournament Success:

Execution and taking care of the basketball along with tough defense and strong rebounding will be keys for the Tommies at tournament time. Games can be won or lost from the free throw line so confidence shooting while the clock is stopped will also be a key.

NDHSAA Tournament Sportsmanship Good sportsmanship is conduct which imposes a type of self-control involving honest rivalry, courteous relations and graceful acceptance of results. School spirit is a reflection of those attitudes and behavior. Spectator etiquette requires that we refrain from displaying any action to taunt opponent’s fan section such as carrying flags around the court and stopping to taunt the opponent’s fan section. This may lead to competition among observers which is mistakenly under the guise of good sportsmanship. Spectators are asked to remain in their designated fan section. Approaching the opponent’s fan section for the purpose of taunting and baiting will not be tolerated. Also, carrying of flags around the court will NOT be allowed! The use of profanity at ANY TIME will NOT be tolerated. Good sportsmanship shall be defined as those qualities of behavior which are characterized by generosity and genuine concern for others. An awareness is expected concerning the impact of an individual’s influence on the behavior of others. Good sportsmanship is viewed as a concrete measure of the understanding and commitment to fair play, ethical behavior and integrity.
