INSPECTION OF CATTLE

HERD HEALTH

Routine herd health and vaccinations up to date on all animals. Bulls and Heifers ear notched and tested negative for PI-BVD. All bulls have passed a Breeding Soundness Exam performed by Dr. Pete Fulper.

GUARANTEE

All cattle sell satisfaction guaranteed. All bulls are guaranteed for one year provided he has been properly cared for. Buyer is entitled to credit or replacement.

DELIVERY

We offer free delivery. If you pick up your purchase, deduct $75 off the purchase price.

BULL DEVELOPMENT

All bulls were weaned in early May and placed on fescue paddocks after weaning. They were shipped in early June to Wardensville, WV and tested using the Growsafe systems there.

They returned home in mid-October. Ultrasound and yearling weights were taken in October.

After collecting yearling information, bulls were placed on a maintenance ration of hay and silage. 30 days prior to sale, bulls were supplemented with a commodity pellet. Every effort has been made to ensure bulls are sound and healthy. We feel our development allows the bulls to be best prepared for the upcoming breeding season.

GENETIC ABNORMALITIES

The American Angus Association has identified genetic abnormalities and all potential carriers in our sale have been tested and identified. As carriers, they are not affected by the defect, but could have an affected calf if bred to another carrier. For additional information, refer to www.angus.org. Please ask if you have any questions.

LUNCH

Angus Bar-B-Q lunch will be provided.

EPDS & VALUES

The American Angus Association is calculating and updating EPD’s on a weekly basis.

EPD information is current at time of printing and any new data submitted between the print date and sale date could affect individual EPD’s. If your purchase decision is heavily dependent on EPD’s, please refer to www.angus.org for the latest information. Any changes will be noted on sale day supplemental sheet. This set of bulls represent some tried and true sire lines including Tahoe, Citadel and Niagara. We are excited to offer a couple new sires in Uptown 7813 and Dark Fire, both being a great compliment to our genetic base. For the first time we are sharing the residual feed intake (RFI) EPD’s from Vytelle. These EPD’s take into account the feed efficiency data collected at the Wardensville Bull Development Center. Lower RFI EPDs are more favorable. The Vytelle feed efficiency database is the world’s largest multi-breed repository with over 260,000 individual EPD animals. We continue to offer ALL of our coming six-year old females. These females represent the heart of our herd and a great opportunity for you to purchase proven females that do their job. Barbara 6831 (Lot 21) represents the Ideal cow at Lazy Acres. She is a donor female and will add VALUE anywhere she goes. There are several heifers in this offering that have the potential to be great. One example is Lot 49, who is a daughter of Barbara 6831 and blends two great Lazy Acres cow families.

Carcass Weight EPD (CW), expressed in pounds is a predictor of the differences in hot carcass weight of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.

Calving Ease Direct (CED), is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire’s calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers.

Marbling EPD (Marb), expressed as a fraction of the difference in USDA marbling score of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.

Birth Weight EPD (BW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires.

Ribeye Area EPD (REA), expressed in square inches, is a predictor of the difference in ribeye area of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.

Weaning Weight EPD (WW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.

Fat Thickness EPD (Fat), expressed in inches, is a predictor of the differences in external fat thickness at the 12th rib (as measured between the 12th and 13th ribs) of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.

Yearling Weight EPD (YW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.

Maternal Weaned Calf Value ($M), an index, expressed in dollar per head, predicts profitability differences from conception to weaning with the underlying breeding objective assuming that individuals retain their own replacement females within herd and sell the rest of the cull female and all male progeny as feeder calves. Traits included are as follows: calving ease direct, calving ease maternal, weaning weight, milk, heifer pregnancy, docility, mature cow weight, claw set and foot angle.

Yearling Height EPD (YH), is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling height, expressed in inches, compared to that of other sires.

Scrotal Circumference EPD (SC), expressed in centimeters, is a predictor of the difference in transmitting ability for scrotal size compared to that of other sires.

Weaned Calf Value ($W), an index, expressed in dollars per head, to predict profitability differences in progeny due to genetics from birth to weaning. The underlying objective being producers will retain 20% of the female progeny as replacements and sell the rest of the cull females and their male counterparts as feeder calves. Traits included are as follows (in no particular order): birth weight, weaning weight, milk, and mature cow weight.

Docility (DOC), is expressed as a difference in yearling cattle temperament, with a higher value indicating more favorable docility. It predicts the average difference of progeny from a sire in comparison with another sire’s calves. In herds where temperament problems are not an issue, this expected difference would not be realized.

Milk EPD (Milk), is a predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability as expressed in his daughters compared to daughters of other sires. In other words, it is that part of a calf’s weaning weight attributed to milk and mothering ability.

Beef Value ($B), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for postweaning and carcass value compared to progeny of other sires.

Combined Value ($C), an index, that is the combination of $Maternal and $Beef.
