BULL DEVELOPMENT
All bulls were weaned in early May and placed on fescue paddocks after weaning. They were shipped in early June to Wardensville, WV and tested using the Growsafe systems there. They returned home in mid-October. Ultrasound and yearling weights were taken in October. After collecting yearling information, bulls were placed on a maintenance ration of hay and silage. 30 days prior to sale, bulls were supplemented with a commodity pellet. Every effort has been made to ensure bulls are sound and healthy. We feel our development allows the bulls to be best prepared for the upcoming breeding season.
GENETIC ABNORMALITIES
The American Angus Association has identified genetic abnormalities and all potential carriers in our sale have been tested and identified. As carriers, they are not affected by the defect, but could have an affected calf if bred to another carrier. For additional information, refer to www.angus.org. Please ask if you have any questions.
WELCOME
Dear Friends,
What a market? What a time in the history of the cattle business? Have you ever heard of such? Have you ever dreamed of a time like this? Maybe so, but we are excited to have you join us for our 11th Annual “Focus Now, Value Later” Bull and Female Sale. Come join us Saturday, April 25th. Cattle will be in place by 10 am, Angus BBQ lunch will be served at noon, and the sale will begin at 1pm.
We have never seen such consumer demand for beef and we are offering a set of stout, beef producing bulls. These 20-month-old bulls offer genetic flexibility and balanced multi-trait excellence. We have focused on balance on paper as well as on foot. When you evaluate these bulls, take note of their disposition and soundness. Most of us are not getting any faster and we work hard to make sure any lose disposition screw has had the chance to come loose. Our bull development program is designed to develop the calf into an athlete with years of service ahead of him and help you get the most out of your investment.
Our 2020 born females will begin the female sale and while this group is not large in number, they are certainly make up for it with production. This group averages 120 pounds of yearling weight EPD all while calving every year and doing so within our fescue-based management system. This group truly represents the “Value Later” part of this sale. The work has been done, and these females will continue to provide value for you for several years to come.
It is easy for us to talk about the strength of these females because we get to watch it every day. In the 66 years we have been raising Angus cattle, we have never invested more into genetics than we did in 2025. When you combine the strength and production of these females with the power and balance of their service sires, the combination creates a package due to be delivered this fall with unrivaled potential. Join us and take advantage of the value of this offering.
We appreciate your willingness to support our program and since 1960 we have been working to create better cattle while growing a family, a business and relationships. We stand behind the cattle we are offering and are confident these bulls and females will work for you. If you have questions about the cattle before or after the sale, please let us know.
Sincerely,
Thank You! to Wardensville Bull Test. Jerry Yates & crew.
Also, Thank you to Dr. Pete Fulper, Dr. Andy Meadows, Mike Hodges, Dr. Jacob Barnard and The White family
the catalogHow to Read
Calving Ease Direct (CED), is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire’s calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers.
Birth Weight EPD (BW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
Weaning Weight EPD (WW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
Yearling Weight EPD (YW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
Yearling Height EPD (YH), is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling height, expressed in inches, compared to that of other sires.
Scrotal Circumference EPD (SC), expressed in centimeters, is a predictor of the difference in transmitting ability for scrotal size compared to that of other sires.
Docility (DOC), is expressed as a difference in yearling cattle temperament, with a higher value indicating more favorable docility. It predicts the average difference of progeny from a sire in comparison with another sire’s calves. In herds where temperament problems are not an issue, this expected difference would not be realized.
Milk EPD (Milk), is a predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability as expressed in his daughters compared to daughters of other sires. In other words, it is that part of a calf’s weaning weight attributed to milk and mothering ability.
